  • Amazing deal. I have the grey model of this one that is smaller. I wish I got this one instead. I got mine for a bargain at 1100 so this for 850 is a steal.

Not really.. this is the Gen 1 which has been on sale in the past for: $795 @ mobileciti, $669 @ ScootCity (although a huge delay), & $799 from JBHIFI with a 2 year warranty.

Gen 1 & Gen 2 are very bad marketing terms as this version can come with the 'gen 2' motor that's on the G30LP, though very little AU stocks seems to be that way. G30 and G30LP are different scooters rather than a gen 1 and gen 2 of the same thing. This poor marketing resulted in people buying a G30LP thinking its an updated version, when in fact its very different.

Go get it in JB Hifi though for sure, warranty much easier and consumer rights beyond the first year are virtually a given with them.

        • I'm assuming based on your comment above, that it is possible to buy this e-scooter with the original motor, or instead, a new/improved motor.

Much like the noisy PS4 in my lounge… if only I'd waited for another 2 yrs to buy, I would now own a quieter version.

Can you please let us know - how do we check the motor type before buying?

Much like the noisy PS4 in my lounge…

I got fined by the EPA last week whilst playing COD.

@jv: I just sold my PS4 on gumtree 5 mins ago. Got a really good deal, jv. Sold it for $400 to Boeing. Apparently they're going to repurpose the fan for use in the engine bay of a 737-400.

@clandestino: You can get it with what people call the gen 1, motor serial starts with a 6, or gen 2 and motor serial starts with a 9.

The gen 1 has more torque, the gen 2 has a higher too speed which it can hold. The gen 1 will hold 25kmh no problem but in countries like the USA where they run at 30kmh it has a problem. You get 30-32 kmh until the battery is about 80% and the. It falls slowly down towards 25khm. So I'd assume it's for these markets the gen 2 motor exists.

If you stick to the default 25kmh for Australia, be it legal in your state or not, it matters little which gen motor you have. Though the gen 1 copes with hills better.

Edit: all JB Hi-fi stock I've seen was gen 1 motor. One of the online stores was advertising G30 with gen 2 before Christmas… But no idea if it's officially sold here. I'm quite happy with the gen 1, I'd go for a totally different scooter like a 10x or Cruiser if I wanted more… For a lot more money too though.

            • @Pobman: cheers Pobman! So, you'd need to purchase the scooter, and unpack it, to find out the motor type?

Regardless- it sounds like they are both very similar.

              thanks again.

              • @clandestino: The USA ones do seem to be in a different box with photos on it, however I don't know if they signifies the different motor or just the different region. Otherwise I don't know how to tell them apart withing physically seeing the motor. Officially there is no gen 1 or gen 2, other than the very original scooters from years ago did have an even earlier revision apparently.

Most people get hung up wanting the gen 2 as it can be unlocked to higher speed and keeps its speed. Being a bit over 100kg I'm quite happy with the torque on the gen 1 rather than more speed. Don't think I really want to be doing 38kmh on a max… I have my one setup now so Sport mode goes to 30kmh and Drive is the factory sport mode and Eco is close to Factory Drive mode.

                • @Pobman: How did you do this setup? im having trouble making it go more than 27kmh

                  • +1

                    @panacheski: Firmware made here:

                    https://max.cfw.sh/

Used their own tool to flash it, link is on that page. Also I had to change the serial to 'magic' or speedboost with the same app.

If you still can't get over check your bearings and tyre pressures. Second scooter I had the front bearings were making a noise out of the box and it would do max 27/28. The wheel wasn't overly noisy but you could hear it and if you spun the wheel it would only turn about 5 seconds before stopping.

Tyre pressure up also helps with speed and range.

            • @Pobman: Great assessment of gen1 vs gen2 motors.

I have the gen1 and prefer it (not that Ive tried a gen2). 25kmh feels like a good speed - any faster and I'd be afraid for my safety. I'd rather the additional torque than the top speed I probably wouldn't use. These things need all the torque they can get too.

              • @loksmack: If you go custom firmware and change the current raising coefficient to 600 it makes a huge difference to acceleration.

Also changing to direct power control and the quadratic curve is a massive improvement, the throttle becomes so smooth when its in quadratic.

                • @Pobman: I'm running custom firmware at the moment. I guess a different version to what you are talking about (different options/values) but I increased the current from 25A to 30A and it's given a nice acceleration improvement.

                  • @loksmack: If you look at the Max hacking site they have updated the options for custom firmware quite a lot in the last month. You can now configure all the different modes rather than just sports. The DPC is below where you select the current and max speeds. I have it on Switchable Brake, so if I turn the scooter on holding the brakes it goes to DPC and Quadratic. Not sure why I dont just set it to always be that way as I never use the scooter with usual throttle anyway!

  • Is it worth getting this over the 1S from the original deal?

    • It's almost twice as expensive and does the same thing. But I'm sure that someone will be along any minute now to tell you "yes, this one is much better"……..

edit - I may be talking absolute rubbish. This one has a much bigger range - coincidentally… twice as big. lol

    • I got the segway max 2 weeks ago. It's really fun to ride but I wouldn't classify it as an extremely portable scooter. Taking it on public transport might be difficult and it's also really heavy to carry around if folded.

Something like the 1S would be more portable and seem more fun to ride because it's less bulky overall.

The range on the Segway is insane though. 60km but I always find myself charging it at 50% battery.

  • I thought I'd contribute some stats that may help someone in their decision maklng;

I have the gen 1 and weigh about 110kg and ride to work and back with an additional 5kg back pack. The distance is about 10.5km each way and there are a few decent hills.

I get to work and back home with about 35% battery remaining. I've done the basic firmware flash to set the region to US, although I rarely seem to be able to hit 30kph… more like 27kph, I suspect this is mostly due to the considerable weight on board. I definitely notice the reduction in top speed on the afternoon trip as per Pobman's comment.

It would certainly be nicer to have a higher top speed, as 25kph is not that great when you're riding on a faux bike lane between parked and moving cars, and frustration and uncertainty from some drivers around overtaking you can create a potential safety hazard.

Try the magic serial or speedboost serial to get it up to the 30kmh, changing region alone doesn’t seem to be enough on newer units.

I average a km for every 2-2.5% depending on the day, but it’s mostly flat here. The first half of the battery goes down much faster if you run full speed.

      • Thanks again Pobman. I'll check those other mods out.

  • u think jb will price match this?
