Air conditioners in Australia are expensive model for model. Kogan price is on par with pricing in China, where the majority of aircon units come from.
Stockholm's syndrome? Lol
I'd never be brave enough to have a kogan air conditioner installed in my home. I draw the line at their fans when it comes to kogan branded products.
On a side note, the 5.2kw was $1799 and is now $599 while the 7kw was $999 and is now $799? Kogan doing their dodgy price drop tactics again.
Agreed. Except for trusting a Kogan fan.
$150 postage kinda ruins it
There's more powerful Hyundai units on the Kogan website for the same prices.
is hyundai made in china?
These are rebadged TCL air conditioners - it has not much to do with Hyundai, Kogan just licensed the brand.
The Kogan units are OEMed by Midea / GMCC while the Hyundai branded units are OEMed by TCL - both are imported and distributed by Kogan.
TCL is also the OEM for Euromatic (split system), AKAI and Stirling.
Midea / GMCC is the OEM for Carrier and Kelvinator.
good luck enforcing warranty on these. be sad to see your installation costs go to waste.
What install costs? An install kit is $40. And I kept the vacuum pump etc. from the last time I installed a system.
Luckily I already have a dedicated power circuit in place. So this will be cheap!
Yes, I void my Kogan warranty. That's about $2 value down the drain.
congratulations to you and the probably one other person out of 20 to install on your own.
Thanks. Another member gave valuable help and encouragement when I first did it. So if I can pay it forward, message me.
This has been written by Kogan. It comes with a 5 year warranty for shipping!
Would not waste my time and money spending $700 each to install this no-name Chinese junk. Since installation is expensive, best to spend extra on a decent reliable brand.
For anything else, I wouldn't mind buying a cheap brand. But not when it's something fixed to my house. When eventually selling, a cheaper brand will suggest I've cheaped out elsewhere in the house.
My house had Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Miele, Siemens and Omega when I bought it. I'm a little annoyed the Omega isn't on par with the rest, and it's the only one I've had an issue with. The clock on the oven half died; still cooks perfectly fine, but doesn't look great. The Mitsubishi air con is ancient and doesn't look great, but never skips a beat.
Any recommendations for AC & install in sydney?
The smaller 2.6kW $399 model is now back on the website. $65 deliver to Sydney.
(Must be no stock in WA warehouse though, I'm seeing $158 delivery for Perth.)

AAARRGH!
Nowhere in the specs or user manual did I find this mentioned, but the Kogan (GMCC) uses 1/4 and 1/2" copper pipes, rather than the more standard 1/2 and 3/8" pair.
You only find out when you go to install it :-(
All fixed, no more issues.
The wifi control is Tuya, so just added to Smartlife app, Google Home works well.
Erm, is there a reason why it is so cheap?
