Philips SHN2600 Noise-Cancelling Canalphones Clearance - $39 @ Bing Lee, $30 @ Officeworks

90

Lost my trusty UE 170/220 canalphones while travelling over the weekend, so while searching for something to help me survive the train trip home, I found these canalphones in Bing Lee which were marked down from $79 and thought I'd take a gamble on them. There were around ten of these on the rack at the Bondi Junction (Sydney) store where I first spotted them, and when I decided to buy some later in the day, there were a few pairs left at the Haymarket store I was closer to. Later found at Officeworks' website for $30, online-order only with option to pick up in store. They only seem to be available in white.

My impressions: passive noise isolation is similar to your standard Sennheiser CX300s, UE 400s and below, etc. The active noise cancellation is very impressive in deadening some types of continuous low frequency noise (e.g. air con blowers), somewhat effective on others, and has little impact on other annoying noises such as someone blabbing on their phone.

In the sound quality department, they're better than the harsh el-cheapo UE 200s, but not on par with CX300s or UE 170/220s. They have quite strong bass, but my sense is the bass isn't well defined - seemed a bit muddy overall at the lower end of the range. But these earphones will probably become my first choice for various situations.

Good find, but they're listed as out of stock at Officeworks online, so I think this deal is only available at Bing Lee.

    Correction: Noise Isolating

    NOT Noise Cancelling.

No they are active noise cancelling and passive noise isolating!
      Noise canceling effect: 12 dB at 200 Hz; 90 - 2000 Hz

  • Some stock (5?) in OW Fitzory VIC. $30 and just got one, thanks. Weird thing, it is currently listing as normal price, I.e. no clearance tag or special discount sticker on it.

  • OW Campbelltown has some

  • i got it for $25 at bing lee!

  • Bugger I just bought some of yesterday's deal (not NC but has mic/remote):

Anyone who bought these, please report on if the NC feature helps on train commutes and on flights.

Bing Lee deal sounds interesting. Which Bing Lee, waterproof?

  • are these a better deal than the Altec Lansing MUZX Extra Earphones $35 (out of stock currently) or the Logitech Ultimate Ears 300 Noise-Isolating Earphones for $33?

  • It is a cheap bundle earbuds replacement. However, there are plenty other earbuds like Creative EP630 online and Sennheiser CX300 do better job for cheaper price and better sound quality.

  • Guess they (Officeworks) are now out of online stock in Sydney. I got the following message when I tried to checkout:

Sorry - we were unable to continue, please check the following messages

Product PHSHN2600 is not available for backorder.

    • 4 left at OW Chadstone.VIC though. read some reviews that they are no better than normal noise-isolating earphones.

  • logitechshop ue200 4 for $18 or 11 for $48 including delivery.

    • I have some of the ue200's and while good value I was hoping for some more bass. Does anyone know whether the Philips SHN2600 will be bassier than the ue200's?

      • Hey, make sure you try out the different sizes of ear buds that come with the UE200's - there should have been 5 all up. Getting the right fit in your ear canal makes a huge difference to the sound re-production and also the noise isolation.

They may all look similar (the buds) but the small differences in size can make massive changes to how you enjoy your listening experience.

  • Three left in Campbellfield.
