Car Lighter / Car Mobile Charger Socket

sorry been posting no of queries to discuss.

did a stupid thing. put a key in the socket where you put the mobile charger / car lighter as the charger was not working right. it sparked and then nothing works in that socket. is it a fuse replacement or could be a bigger issue?

Go check your car manual to see if there is a fuse for that socket, and the fuse box location.

If so, it should also say which type of fuse/rating it is so you can get a replacement.

    • i know the location of the box but will try to find out which one is it. dont have tools to check for it so will try to replace. still be cheap than getting it checked at a workshop?

you should be able to see the metal has "broke" through the fuse's plastic casing.

Bonus pts, share the photo of you successfully identifying the fuse :)

        • great info. will spend my eve on it :) post it soon

  • Did you check the fuse?

    • dont know how to check and dont have tool for it even if i see a tutorial :(

      • What kind of car? It’s highly likely you don’t need any tools. Find the fuse box, remove cover, check diagram, remove fuse, look at fuse.

  • Depends on the car. Could be a fuse which is easy or could be a fusible link which is more of a PITA.

Fuse, if fuse is ok then socket is cooked.

Why would you stick a key in the socket when you say
'dont know how to check and dont have tool for it even'

Good luck if it was another system and fried a computer.

    • It was a dumb thing to do, but how would short circuiting the lighter socket fry a computer?

  • You put the key there on purpose, so deserve for the circuit to be blown.

  • If not fuse, then bigger issue.

      Bigger key?

  • put a key in the socket where you put the mobile charger / car lighter as the charger was not working right

That's a handy tip, I'll try that if my car's socket ever stops working properly. /s

    dont know how to check

    Ever heard of Youtube?

    Several videos available for Dummy's.

  • It will have a fuse. Simplest place to start.

  • OP, what year model of car is your Peugeot 3008?

    • 2011

Excellent, thanks OP. So according to one of the first results in Dr Google, https://fuse-box.info/peugeot/peugeot-3008-2009-2016-fuses , a 2011 model year Peugeot 3008 has a 30-amp (GREEN) fuse labelled F9 in their diagram, in the in-cabin fusebox.

That's located on the passenger side (glove box area) on your 3008.

If you'd like to compare that fuse (from F9), compare it with fuse F31. F31 should be the boot accessory fuse, according to that URL above.

Assuming you've popped (broken) fuse F9, once you've taken it out and held it up to the light, you'll probably see the fuse wire (might look like a little letter "z" inside the plastic fuse) is broken, whereas F31 should be a continuous "z" (without a break in it).

You could theoretically swap those two green 30A fuses around — and your boot accessory port should stop working, and your dash cigarette lighter/accessory port should, fingers-crossed, start working again.

As per the earlier URLs other posters supplied, there should be a little fuse removal tool (looks like a plastic set of tweezers) in the fuse box / glove box area of your P3008, to help you extract the fuses. They give you this tool as it's hard to get big fingers around the small plastic wedge fuses.

Let us know if this works for you… (if it does, you can then get yourself a new 30A green wedge fuse replacement at the shops)…

      Thanks for detailed instructions.

Thank you to each one of you. it was F9 and i was able to take it out and saw the busted part inside it. Swapped with similar one in the fuse box to see that new one will work and the socket worked. Will run in to an auto shop and buy it soon. Thanks again pals.

    • I dropped a button battery into my car cig charger socket and blew the fuse. Simple fix to diy as you are finding. Get a $2 pack of fuses from super cheap auto.

  • Excellent, great to hear. And good luck!
