    $50 Gift card for 1
$120 Gift card for two as well..

    see

    https://www.asus.com/au/events/infoM/2547/

The original firmware on these, needs to be updated
for some reason, I had to do mine manually..

All the gaming features are a pain to navigate.. the menu system isn't as straight forward as the usual asus stuff..

    • nice edition of the egift card.

      • though. .. I am having trouble filling out the redemption form at the moment.. server errors.. will try again tomorrow…

This obviously works with AI mesh….

I am very impressed by the Asus networking stuff at the moment..

getting 843Mbps down / 46.5Mbps up on my FTTP account

    with AI protection on..

the Asus App, lets you remotely login to the router.. and edit / block / monitor your family using the internet as well..

WIFI 6 router is getting close to $100 - $200 range, would recommend xiaomi ax6000, best price and performance.

  • My RT68U still going strong.
How big of an upgrade from the Asus RT68U? Or am I wasting money here?

    • +1

if you dont have any issues then no point upgrading
      supposedly 6E coming soon

      • Thanks. True, I don't have any issue atm. Had the RT68u for years hasn't miss a beat.

        • If it ain't broke.. Prepare your wallets for Wi-Fi 6E routers.

          Linksys AXE840 2-Pack $1105
          Linksys AXE840 3-Pack $1560

It's better to purchase either Asus rt ax86 or Asus rt ax88. I know that it will cost more but you don't really purchase router every year. It's better to buy the high end asus router instead of this one.

    • why though, Asus dont even have a pcie card that supports those speeds.

      • Asus have Wi-Fi 6 PCIe cards that support Gigabit.

        • I cannot find any PCIe wifi card from Asus that supports 5700mbs which is the top speed of the RT-AX86. Therefore what's the point?

Not to be a smartass, I am about to make a decision and buy one myself. The only benefit I can see for the AX86 is that perhaps in the future when PCIe cards catch up you can buy one?

Does it seem by buying the AX86 you cant even use the theoretical top speed of the wifi anyway?

          Therefore a https://www.asus.com/Networking-IoT-Servers/WiFi-6/All-serie…

Seems like a good match overall?

@equinoxxx: You are never going to get the top advertised speed with Wi-Fi. The point is if you want Gigabit with Wi-Fi and your client can handle it you would purchase a Wi-Fi 6 PCIe card. The TUF-AX3000 and PCE-AX3000 is a good overall match.

The RT-AX88U and RT-AX86U are very similar. The TUF-AX3000 still performs well.

      TUF-AX3000
      1.5 Ghz tri-core processor.
      256 MB Flash / 512 MB RAM.
      Gigabit WAN port x 1.
      Gigabit LAN ports x 4.
      WPA3-Personal.
      Horizontal design.

      RT-AX88U
      1.8 GHz quad-core processor.
      256 MB Flash / 1 GB RAM.
      Gigabit WAN port x 1.
      Gigabit LAN ports x 8.
      WPA3-Personal.
      Horizontal design.

      RT-AX86U
      1.8 GHz quad-core processor.
      256 MB Flash / 1 GB RAM.
      Gigabit WAN port x 1.
      2.5 Gig WAN/LAN port x 1.
      Gigabit LAN ports x 4.
      WPA3-Personal.
      Vertical design.
      WAN Aggregation.

RT-AX88U and RT-AX86U hardware are nearly the same from what i understand

RT-AX88U has 8 LAN ports and slightly better wireless range / speed

86U is a newer device and newer processor (same speed) tho

At the end I got the 88U just because of the 8 ports (so I dont need another Gigabit switch)

        • Yeah that's it. A good summary 👍

      • I want to upgrade my 68u to one of these. But there a alot of talk previously about the 2.4ghz issues, is tis still a problem?

        • Is that with the TUF-AX3000, RT-AX88U, RT-AX86U?

          • @Twix: the 86 this thread here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/602039

but apparently can happen to the 88 as well

first comment and follow the forum from there

@huu: That thread refers to the AC86U not the AX86U. I had an AC86U and yes, the 2.4GHz radio died like so many others.

Umart is an "approved competitor website" under eBay's best price guarantee which means you can get the difference +5% between the best price on eBay ($325 delivered from either Wireless 1 or Computer Alliance) and Umart's current price as an eBay voucher.

If you can be arsed going through the process then here it is:

This is the list of "authorised resellers" you must purchase from in order to get the gift card from Asus under this promo:
    https://www.asuspromotion.net/au/wheretobuy/wlan.htm

Buy from any other seller and you may not be eligible but I assume buying from the respective retailer's eBay store still qualifies.

  • Can someone please confirm that this router can be connected to Synology NAS via LAN ports?

    • +1

Of course. Why wouldn't you be able to?

      • -1

Thanks Twix, Like to confirm because none of AX routers are listed in Synology compatible list of routers. Only AC models listed.

    Gaming Router

    Hahahaha yeah OK.

Don't forget more antennas = faster. Thats why all enterprise wifi APs have about 500 antennas sticking out.

BTW back in stock and still at this price (at least in Milton).
