First-time poster so please be nice
I am thinking to build a new budget pc for myself and come across this deal.
I really like the tower case looks amazing and good reviews on the internet. I bought this deal already, let see how it goes.
PSU itself is $85 (https://www.centrecom.com.au/silverstone-et550-b-550w-80-bro…).
Thats why I think its a very good deal.

Thanks

    Nice one, and welcome.

    • Thanks 😊

No reflection on the poster, you’re probably a decent person, but these guys don’t deserve a dollar. I ordered from them a while back and they sent the wrong item. The person I spoke to on the phone was defensive and made what should have been a minor issue very unpleasant.

The upshot was they treated my complaint like a change of mind even though I sent a screenshot of the page showing the picture and description of the item I ordered on their site and they wouldn’t accept a return without a restocking fee.

I get really angry whenever I hear their name, but I won’t forget the experience.

That's really unusual. I've had nothing but good customer service with them over at least a dozen interactions. Maybe you got someone on a bad day?

      • +17

Maybe you got someone on a bad day?

Maybe, but I was polite and still got treated like dirt. As long as the matter remains unresolved they will continue to have a bad day.

How long ago was a while back?

Report it to the ACCC and move on.

      • +1

Sadly the ACCC is a toothless tiger. They often roar but never bite.

        • +6

ACCC likes to bite Kogan :-)

          • +4

@Twix: Oh wow. Didn't know about that fine. Maybe I should retract my comments. It would be great to see them take more appropriate action like this.

      • Report it to the ACCC and move on.

The ACCC can’t do as much as I can. I won’t be moving on any time soon.

      • +2

For matters like this, NSW Fair Trading (or your state's equivalent) is who you need to deal with. I've used them once but they actually get stuff done.

        • I don’t think the ACCC care about individual complaints, above poster would be correct in fair trading being the place to go

    • +3

I feel the exact same way you do, except towards Mwave. Doesn't mean I go negging good Mwave deals.

Don't get me wrong though, businesses shouldn't get away with such shocking behaviour. I just don't think this is the place for it.

      • +9

It’s strange that I warn people about a (really) bad experience, and I still get negged. It’s like people don’t want to believe it. That is until it happens to them, then it’s all tears.

        • +5

It's more that every store will have negative experiences. Literally every store posted on ozb will have one customer with a terrible experience, doesnt mean we neg every deal from that store. Vote on the deal, not cos you had a bad experience. It seems most people find the store generally OK to deal with.

          • +3

@bobloblawlawblog: As long as the matter remains unresolved people need to know about it. Look if it was just a little misunderstanding I’d forget about it, but this was blatant arrogance and total disregard and disrespect of a reasonable paying customer. No business should get away with it.

            • +3

@Lps: Is there an outstanding formal/written complaint with them? Possibly from their management point of view it has been resolved and/or they don't know about it. On the other side of the coin, a reputable organisation would have a dedicated team to handle customer satisfaction and at some point that team would message you to get your order details so they could look into it.

I don't recommend hanging onto grievances too long, but if you're still burnt by them; write a formal complaint stating your dis-satisfaction and ask what they intent to do to rectify and follow up 48 hours later with posts and evidence on their social media accounts ie. Twitter/FB. I've had refunds issued in under an hour doing this (albeit not Scorptec).

            • @Lps: Computer shops are the scummiest Aussie retail businesses who get by on the fact that that’s still the norm and if you don’t like it go somewhere else. I used to work for a reputable one and even I expect to get screwed up whenever I buy something. I generally try to buy from Amazon or pick up locally in store if possible

            • @Lps: fair enough butthink its harsh to neg the deal. just make people aware in the comments

        • +3

It is because you have unfairly voted negative on the deal. If enough people give your comment a negative then the site will automatically remove your neg vote on the deal.

    • You haven't dealt with MSY, I see.

      • +2

I loved going to MSY, no banter, no beating around the bush,
"Whaddaya want?" "This and that" "Here's your stuff now get outta here". And the prices were awesome.

        • +1

          Were.
They seem to have dropped the ball lately.
Either that or the competition has picked up their game.

Being a computer store, their website is atrocious to say the least haha

          • +1

@blacknwhite1: Anyone who deals with MSY knows the only thing you need on their website is the PDF parts list. Comprehensive list, fully priced. Then you just ring to check if they have stock, walk in, grab what you want and get out. Great if you know what you want and they have it.

    • +1

I feel for you mate. I've had nothing but good experiences with them but someone I know had a terrible experience.
It seems it varies a bit from person to person but that's no excuse. A good store should have controls in place so that these incidents don't happen due or at the very least, can be detected and resolved properly.
I would write in and complain. Even if it was a while ago. What's the worst that happens? You're never going to buy from them again anyway so you may as well get some closure.

      • They are well aware of my issue as it went beyond the person who answered the phone. They simply didn't give a damn. The moment the money changed hands I became a no-one. Big mistake. Thanks for sharing.

you might be onto something - I looked at the website and

Guess they don't want you to contact them

    • Another person with horrendous experience with Scorptec.

In my opinion any deals from them aren't really a deal, because in the off chance something goes wrong, you'll be fighting tooth and nail to get warranties upheld. Last time I tried to claim a warranty with them I supplied tons of evidence, even had the manufacturer confirm it was dead, and they simply shrugged and blamed me for "dropping it or something".

I've had better luck with warranty claims through CPL. You're better off buying anywhere other than Scorptec.

      • Thanks for sharing. Be sure to tell as many people as you can about this experience. with Scorptec.

Some feedback from someone who has built 2 PCs in this model of case:

    • Decent enough design for cable management. 4 way indents on the back work well for thin zip-ties.

    • Space for PSU is quite limited. Ideally you'd want a modular PSU in this case. Will not fit a corsair HX1000i for example. (yes, I'm aware this deal includes a PSU, but if anyone sees this post in the future and wants to buy this case, minus the PSU, it may be useful info)

    • The way the SSD sleds sit, it's likely you won't be able to use the SATA power cable headers next to each other on the chain. The sleds just a little too far from each other.

    • Don't bother trying to use those coloured cable extensions (24 pin, 8 pin, PCI-E 6+2 etc) , as there's not enough room to store excess cables. You'll just break them, like I did.

    • Only 1 case fan is included (rear). Airflow isn't so great with just that, so consider grabbing more, and a fan splitter / hub if required.

    • The marketing material states something about an Rgb logo. It only means the brand logo is opaque, and if you run RGB fans, it'll shine through the logo.

    • This case is super light-weight, considering the tempered glass side-panel.

    • The aesthetic doesn't scream "gamer" in any sense. It would be right at home in an office environment without RGB fans.

    • Only 2 of the rear metal tabs behind the PCI-E ports are replaceable. The others require you to bend them out and snap them off.

    • Due to the placement of the motherboard in this case, run your 4/8-pin motherboard power before installing your motherboard. Also run cables for any headers on the lower-back part of the mother board (near PCI-E slots, things like USB 2.0, HD audio etc.) before installing the PSU, or the holes will become obstructed.

Hope this helps at least someone who is on the fence about this deal or purchases this case in the future.

    • Thanks for the info, it would really help me during my set up.
Any suggestions on what kind of motherboard should i get ?
I am not a heavy gamer
      I was thinking to buy Gigabyte b550 gaming x v2 with ryzen 5 3600.

      • +1

That's a great combination. Pair that with some 3200~mhz RAM in dual channel, and you'll have a really fast PC!

Edit: looks like that board you mentioned is on sale at "Centre Com" until Feb 21st. Be aware however, it's an ATX sized board, so it's going to be a VERY tight squeeze to fit it in the case. Maybe take a look at one of the MSI mATX motherboards. Considering it's somewhat of a "low to mid budget build", you probably won't get the benefit from using a full size ATX board with extra PCI-e slots. Shoot me a PM with any more questions to keep this post relevant.

      • +1

It's a good board for 3600, just remember this is not the board to use 4 RAM sticks with high speed. if you like to run ram a bit faster, use strictly 2 sticks and you will be all good.

        • much appreciated thanks mate.
