Is this subject to a "Finders Fee"?

In a way, the scammer got a 100% finders fee.

    • Whoever ia capable of retrieving the vouchers of course gets a 10% finders fee. Ill ooat the codes soon.

    • P.I. Baysew is on the case.

  • That's a crime, go tell the cops.

    • This is OzCoppers site. How may we help you?

Reported to the online acam reporting webpage. He also made a bank payment of $700. Told him to go to the bank and reverse/claim back that money.

        • Bank transfers aren't recoverable. Unless you were hacked or the person you sent it to agrees to give it back.

        • I'm sorry but if you were scammed out of $700 then you're not responsible enough to own money.

          • @SlavOz: Agree, totally. As I said it's a friend, actually not even a close friend.

    Probably no way to recover.

Plus, you've not given any information of the transaction or how it took place etc to see of there are other means to track/recover.

  • no way to recover, i know a guy who lost $1000 to a steam gift card scam a month ago

cops will take the details and confirm that money is gone

If you have the codes then you can attempt to redeem the cards to your own account before the scammer does. At least you can spend it yourself instead of giving it away.

Sorry if this is a naive comment, but couldn't you take proof purchase to the police, obtain a police report. Then send the report to steam with the codes explaining what happened? Sooner or later someone will use them - then steam can cancel the purchases and refund the money back to you.

I mean it is stolen property and technically even if the scammer was giving them away, it's still receiving stolen property isn't it?

    • Is it stolen though if the OPs friend handed it over willingly? Similar stories have had police respond that it is a civil matter.
