    Are they noisy?

    • +8

I feel as though the brand is enough to answer that, but no. They're Noctuas. Quietest on the market arguably tied with Arctis P12.

    • +2

I'm using one now and I can barely hear it on normal operation. If I'm doing something more CPU-intensive though, you can start to hear it.

However, the funny thing, in comparison to my AIO cooler I had before that I was replacing, this is quieter. The fans on the radiator for the AIO were freaking noisy!

      • +3

LTT did a video on that. The Noctua performed better and with less noise then a water cooler in their test.

        • It was Corsairs water cooler which is not a good one…

You just got trolled by jv

        • If that was a troll then it was really poor trolling lol

          • +9

            @g1: exactly.. its jv

          • @g1: Damn! Was that a troll? I didn't even catch on :(

        • You just got trolled by jv

why is that a troll ???

          • @jv: jv… are you trolling?.. haha

            • @g1: All along JV just wanted to know the answer to his question. Good ol JV.

      • Whether AIO or air cooling they are both fans, your AIO was prob higher rpm, and you could have slowed it down for a few degrees temp. The mix of cooling and temperature is a fine balance. This cooler maxes at 1500RPM and AIO fans generally can max at 2000RPM, from a noise normalised perspective, top range AIO's are cooler/quieter than this.

        • +1

          Yeah, maybe.

I had a Corsair AIO, and like you mentioned above, they are noisy.

Now the issue is the temperatures and therefore RPM were not stable on the AIO. For example, if I did something CPU intensive like compiling an application, the temperature would spike up and the RPM would max out for a couple seconds, then back down and that was annoying for me because whenever it did this my table would shake.

I’ve tried to adjust the way the curves work using the provided Corsair LINK app but doing so makes my computer run at quite a significantly higher temperature, for the sacrifice of longevity of my parts.

Meanwhile using this Noctua cooler, my temps are low, the sound is (almost) negligible and my table doesn’t shake when it maxes out the RPM. Oh also didn’t mention that the AIO I bought costed more than this cooler.

I understand that if I was to pay say 3x of what the Noctua costs at this promotion price, I could probably get a pretty good AIO, but at the end of the day, I think for what the Noctua can offer at this price, it’s definitely worth getting. YMMV :)

    • Very noisy until you put it in this case ;)

  • How quick is the shipping?
I was debating between NH-U12S and NH-D15S. I may go with D15S but was wondering if shipping is Aliexpress style of not seeing the order for months.

    • +1

It's coming from Taiwan. I haven't used Newegg for a while but they estimated 3-15 days.

    • Ships from Taiwan. Most customers receive within 5-17 days.

      • Most… guess I could try my luck

        • Thats a lottery really… Was thinking the same thing.

          • +1

@pharkurnell: I just received my D15s chromax from newegg (ship taiwan) in a matter of days. Was very well packaged, no complaints here. Works amazing, i cant hear my system booted up, only under stress tests do the fans ramp. 10700k, non overclocked. Idle at 28-30, stress 65c, gaming 55-60.

Very impressed with mine, but i always go noctua coolers and fans, so as expected

    • I ordered a D15 on Saturday, confirmation email said
Shipping Method: International Expedited Shipping (3-15 business days)

Payment was debited on Monday 11.30pm, and tracking number provided 12.30am.

I read others say they received it in 3 business days which is quite impressive, so 3-15 days is probably the right estimate

      • Cheers. That sounds good. Have you dealt with Noctua warranty for products purchased on newegg? The savings on D15 on newegg look really attractive.

I've ordered multiple noctua coolers from Newegg. It's DHL from Taiwan, takes 2-3 days, faster than same state auspost delivery.

      • +1

faster than same state auspost delivery

        So is a carrier pigeon…

      • Or fastways same city

    • I ordered mine on Monday night, 4 January - delivered on 8 January, Friday morning. Very impressed!

    • I ordered some Noctua fans from NewEgg last Tuesday, DHL dropped 'em off Sunday morning. Came from Taiwan, default DHL shipping was $9.

Faster than PC Case Gear and half the price.

    • I ordered an nh-l9a from them on the 29th Jan, it arrived on the 5th Feb via DHL. From Taiwan too.

    • I ordered a Noctua cooler from Newegg, and it was shipped from Taiwan. It was delivered 6 days after I ordered it, however this was Pre-Covid

Just kinda be aware of how much premium you're paying over the non-black version

Noctua is one of those companies I don't mind shelling out a bit more coin for. Stellar products/performance and they've saved my bacon by sending me free mounting kits in the past. That might be just me though :)

    • +1

Yeah but that price isn't available anymore.

      • +2

yeah but its just $77 currently + delivery, just $7 more than the deal above.

Don't get me wrong, black looks amazing. but I'm just letting people making informed decisions. Want to save $23? go with the normal non-black vesion. love the black look and dont mind spending more for the looks? go for the black version.

  • Great cooler that I used for my first build ever a couple of months ago. Keeps my Ryzen 3600 between 30-40 degrees idle and around 40-50 degrees when gaming.

Only issue I had was how hard it was for me to screw in the heatsink on to the motherboard. Like it was extremely difficult I wanted to give up and cry.

    • +1

They're pretty low temps while gaming. Care to share what else is in your set up and what your fan curve is like?

I have the same CPU and I'm getting around 62-70c when running MSFS 2020, although idle is around 30-40. But i have a noise dampening case (Fractal Design Define Mini C) which may restrict airflow, and only 2 stock fans. And I've adjusted my fan curve so case fans run around 600rpm below 60c, and ramp up afterwards.

Edit. Forgot to mention I have the same CPU.

      • +2

Yeah my 3600 gets to mid 70’s when gaming with a tower cooler very similar to this Noctua. My friend has a 3700X and a D15 and he will sit high 60’s to low 70’s.

AFAIK thermal transfer is an issue for the Zen chips so it doesn’t really matter how good your cooler is it’ll usually always hit about 70c.

        • Good to know.

I know the CPU runs at bursts (not sure if that's the right terminology) which spikes the temp quite high, but then falls back again. Was pretty annoying to be around until I swapped out the stock CPU cooler for this noctua, and then implemented a fan curve that didn't respond immediately to these brief spikes in temp.

      • I only play dota 2 which isn't too taxing on the system. Perhaps that's why? I don't really play any new games.

        • Yes, that's probably a significant factor.

    • My idle with the same cpu and cooler as this is 40 to 50 and gaming is 50 to 65, how is yours so low? Did I install something wrong? o_O could it be the thermal paste placement/spreading?

      • Maybe I am measuring it wrong? I am using AMD CPU monitor program to do it.

Just to add about shipping times if anyone is worried, had ordered this and 2 NF-a14 fans last week or week before, came in 4 days, took 1 day to go from Taiwan, to China thenMelbourne, then 3 days from Melbourne facility to suburbs. Was incredible on their end

Damn 3mm too tall for my case

Artic 12 is like 17$ and similar in performance?

  • +1

Shipping via DHL is fast and worth the $9. But you would not want to do returns if you change your mind, as it is not free like Amazon.

  • This vs be quiet pure rock 2

  • DHL delivered this today. Ordered the day I posted the deal. No bent fins etc. Installed and running fine.
