Hi All,

Just saw this before I finished work on Saturday:

For 6 Days only get 15% off the Sony Tablet S, bringing prices to:
16GB From $579 to $492.15
32GB from $689 to $585.65
Includes $100 PSN Voucher (Purchase/rent Videos, subscribe to music or download PSN games)
5* Bonus PSN Games to download(Includes Everybody's Golf 2; Jet Rider; Destruction Derby; Kula World and Cool Boarders)

Just a touch cheaper than an E-mail I got from Sony today ($499 and $599) but you can pick up straight away in store, or call a store for free delivery if you have a DJs card. Plus 3 Years interest free is available on the DJs Card.

Note: I am a DJs employee but I am not a rep for the store, so I can not speak for DJs. Just thought I'd post and see if anyone's interested.

  • Tablet comes with 3G? or just wifi only?

    • Wi-Fi versions only came to Aus - edited with links to sony's product page.

  • Is this as good as Asus transformer?

    • I prefer my $376 transformer with dock.

      • where did you get that from? I've been looking at the transformer Prime but its going to be over $700(with dock) so i might just get the original

    • In my opinion no. Popular consensus is that the build quality is poor and I have to agree, played around with one yesterday in JB and it felt cheap and badly designed. The wedge shape felt awkward in hand and the plastic body both flimsy and a smudge magnet. Over priced when you consider the slightly better spec'd 32Gb WIFI Xoom can be found for between $298 and $398 easily at the moment and the 3G model pops up for less than $400 more and more often. The 'Bravia Engine' can be found for any HC tab at XDA now and syncing media to PS3 or other wifi enabled gear can be done by any Android tablet also. Don't believe the hype, nothing new to see here.

Never had a transformer, but had a brief play with it in the shops. On cost alone, I would rather not go for the Sony. That said, I do have the Tablet S and I'm rather happy with it and the build quality isn't that bad. Sure it's a bit plastic-y, but the wedge shape makes it easy to hold sideways in my opinion.

I would say go for the transformer, the Sony demands a premium and it's definitely not worth it in this case. Dev support isn't too great due to the unpopularity of the tablet, so if you're into modding, flashing and whatnot, there's nothing to see here. There's still no root yet.

I've posted this in the forums, but if you want to read my review of the tablet, you can see my blog. There's not too much on design, it's mostly software and usability related. http://acoolstory.wordpress.com

    • This is much better then the transformer. It comes with builtin infra red universal programable remote and wireless video streaming to TV.

Good deal for someone who just started looking for a tablet. It's no doubt a solid tablet but once you have tried ASUS, there's no reason to purchase this. It loses value-wise to Transformer too (more likely you would find a deal for including the dock).

  • I guess in same price you get Transformer prime from US.

according to this you also get $100 PSN coupon. Which is kind of great if you have a PS3/N account.

    …. tempting!!

    • But if similar tablets are at 300-400 range, then you could use the money saved to buy a PSN coupon separately.

Beside, once you gets your hands on a Sony, you definitely would want to get a transformer or xoom.

build and battery quality are much different. for one thing, xoom is a brick

        • have you seen the sony? its a cheap piece of wedge shaped plastic. Sony has completely lost its way and still expect a price premoum sigh.,

  • I played with one for a couple of weeks, for a review I did.
What others say about it feeling plastic and cheap is correct. The screen is nice, but the shape did not sit well with me.

Compred to Asus, Motorola & Acer this unit is way too overpriced.

  • I quite like the design and this price makes it more tempting but the samsung tab though pricier is my pick of the bunch until asus transformer prime comes out :)

I got one of these tablets and it is one of the best tablet on the market at the moment. The IR universal programable remote and wireless video streaming is so cool. Don't listen to people saying built quality is cheap, it's actually alot stronger then it looks. Certainly much more stronger then the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 (which I got to play with yesterday at JB). Don't waste your money on Samsung it's extremely poor quality and flimsy like hell, you can bend it almost. The Xoom and transformer while good, try holding them with one hand for five minutes and see how tired your hand feels. Plus it does not come with the extra features and customisation as with the Sony tablet.

Definately pick sony tablet S out of the bunch and don't listen to the haters. For this price it's a steal!

Thanks for this post, my friend just bought one yesterday.

    • (kumart75) "Don't waste your money on Samsung it's extremely poor quality and flimsy like hell, you can bend it almost."

Truer words could not be written! Continued function with Samsung junk is pure luck.

  • SonyCentre has the 16gig at $498 with free dock and screen protector (they say $98 value). Would that be better than $100 PSN voucher?

Haven't got one but I like that I can play the PS1 games that I get free every month on the PSN subscription, so I am swayed towards one. I also like that I can plug my SD card from my camera and look at the pics. And I thought it felt nice in the hand, the wedge shape feels good to hold (my hand aches with the iPad)

    • Yes that would be a better deal then the $100 PSN voucher. The dock and screen protector retails for $69 and $29 respectively. I have been trying to source a cheap deal on the dock at the moment.
