$5 Referral Bonus for Referrer and Referee ($5 Minimum Investment within 14 Days of Sign up Required) @ Spaceship Voyager

1620

Previous $10 deal has expired so posting this new deal. Obviously not as good as getting $10 but you're likely to earn an additional $5 from the increase in the value of your portfolio anyway as opposed to waiting for the next $10 deal, provided that you've deposited enough.

Note that referral codes need to be added to your account after you sign up (within 14 days of sign up). Use the referral randomiser to get a code. You must invest a minimum of $5 to receive the $5 referral.

Guys, before you add your referral code in the system please make sure to have invested at least $5. There’re comments from people in this deal and previous deals saying they didn’t receive the referral credit because the referrer didn’t meet the eligibility criteria. Be considerate and don’t ruin it for others.

No fees on the first $5,000 invested, and 0.1% on balances above $5,000. I'd recommend the universe portfolio, see historical returns. Thanks @pretz

This is genuinely one of the best investment apps out there so I'd encourage you to stay invested instead of immediately withdrawing the money. The returns have been rock solid. Though note that past performance is not indicative of future performance.

Terms and conditions

Mod: This deal never started, the $10 was extended until 21/2 at least, if not 28/2. Terms and conditions states 28/2, but Terms and conditions in the app states 21/2. Start date for this $5 deal updated and previous deal extended.

            • @Mr Bargain Hunter: Oh, sorry, now I get what you meant when you said "I'm not giving the govt that extra tax". I thought you meant you won't pay tax by investing in penny stocks compared with spaceship 😂

              • @kimba88: Haha nah get taxed everywhere unless I own a lambo and show depreciation loss lmao
To anyone curious here are the penny stocks
                LKE (55%), XST (10%), SGC (7%), IHL (7%), BPH (7%), PEN (7%), LRS (7%)

Maybe you can compare it with this ETF’s returns in 1 year

Will probably sell 2-3 before that based on status of projects

"No fees on the first $5,000 invested, and 0.1% on balances above $5,000" How does that fee work if over? Is it a once-off? Intervals? Every transactions deposited?

    • It gets deducted from your returns - you would barely notice it.

    • I read the PDS completely and fees still confuse me. Can anyone help me answer this questions?

Q1) Can I deposit $4900 and just skim off profits so balance never exceeds $5000. Does that avoid fees?

Q2) If deposit $1000/week and once balance reaches $5000 I withdraw it all to invest it in an ETF (less risk, because ETF are held under my name)
And then continue investing $1000/week until balance reaches $5000 again

      Will this incur any fees?

      • +6

They will both not incur any fees as long as the balance never goes above 5k. But you need to remember that everytime you withdraw from Spaceship you are triggering a CGT event that you need to record and calculate for your tax return. Not worth the effort just to avoid a tiny 0.1% fee IMO.

        • Yes, I think I agree on this here. Your returns will possibly be higher than the fee

What is the general consensus on maxing out your super contribution before investing in Spaceship (or any portfolio)? My understanding is you have a bigger savings on tax but your return might not be great with super.

    • +3

Basically depends on your answers to the following 3 questions:
      1. What tax bracket are you in?
      2. How much do you have lying around that you won’t need in an unforeseen emergency or day-to-day stuff.
      3. Would you prefer tax savings and very long-term investment (super) or do you want a more liquid investment with less tax breaks.

Only you can answer those questions for yourself.

  • Universe looks appetizing but it's a whole lot of risks

    • In what way? How is it more risky than the other portfolios?

      • +3

One is that it is over-invested in large tech funds (compared to its standard index fund). This was good for 2020, when tech companies were very successful off the waves of people working from home and not being able to socialise physically. Will those returns hold up in the future? Who knows? That's investing.

Pretty sure the $10 referral bonus was advertised as being available for all of February??

I'm an investor with them but, Bloody Nora, could they back-off a little bit with the constant updating of the referral code?! But I suppose it guarantees them a fresh advertisement on OzBargain!!

    • Haha yeah, maybe that's the goal

  • +1

Signed up. But I need to wait until Tuesday to complete the money transfer. Will see how much I get.

  • at the beginning of this app, it used to be $40 return when you refer, now its $5 :/

  • Has everyone really just handed over their bank login details? That seems crazy.

    • lol, hopefully not. I gave them a statement back when I signed up, but you have to manually contact them.

      • Yeah I'm going to contact them for that as well

        • +1

I did it recently this was - was pretty straight forward. I wasn't keen on handing out login details either…

    • Contact them on the chat and send over a bank statement. I’ve found their customer support efficient and helpful in the past.

    • Also, I'm pretty sure every bank I've ever had an account with have prohibited sharing my login details with anyone in their terms and conditions.

      • I asked my bank today specifically about using this verification facility in Spaceship and this was their reply:

We do not endorse providing your log-in details to any third party individuals, companies, or applications.
Please keep in mind that your log in information should be kept confidential to yourself.
It is against the T&Cs of your accounts to share this information with a third party.

        • Is it sharing?
Or just a pass thru. Spaceship says they do not store your account.

Just signed up and put in Adams code. If your an Adam, you're welcome

  • This or Raiz?

    • +1

This has had better performance and lower fee.

    • Voyagers return is way better but Raiz is a more reliable company.

    • Used to have both Spaceship and Raiz, have decided to cash out on Raiz.

      1. If you're investing a small amount of money, Spaceship makes sense as there's no fee on the first $5000 whereas there's a $2.50 monthly fee for Raiz.

      2. Also Raiz is really just a fund of index funds with different proportions based on risk appetite, which really isn't that special and is a strategy you could easily replicate yourself via SelfWealth, Pearler etc.

      3. Past performance is not an indicator of future performance, but Spaceship has done a lot better in terms of performance in the past 12 months compared to Raiz.

  • Is anyone else having issues with the app?
When I try to download the app from the google store im receiving this item isn't available in your country (I'm in Australia just in case)

    • are you tunneled through an emulator / vpn?

      • nope. I've checked on the phone and laptop (online play market) - they are both unavailable for me to download

        • Not sure then. You can still sign up via website I guess and participate (if that was your real issue). The web UI is pretty good.

          • @Blitzfx: That's what I did. Just thought to install the app in the phone to show my mates that I'm real investor!

  • Didn't get the referral bonus (from previous $10 post) though it shows as pending on my new account since 1 Feb. How long does it take?

    • Check that the referrer has also met the eligibility criteria (if u click on it it will tell u)

  • Started this. Hope ‘Bradley’ invests something soon so that I can also get that $10 referral bonus.

  • Does anyone know if it is easy to edit periodic investment amounts? Also how easy it is to stop the direct debits if one has to?

    • Got it - it’s under manage account —> investment plant and then option to either update plan with amount or frequency or stop it altogether

  • I have about $1000 in an ANZ online saver that earns barely anything, would I be better transferring that to Spaceship to get it earning some better returns? I'm all a bit new to this investment game and I don't have a huge amount to invest, but looking to maximise whatever little I do have.

Obviously I know there are risks with anything like this, but I'm not likely to lose all my money by doing the above, am I?

    • +1

DYOR, google them around, read through this thread, similar questions have been asked before.

TLDR, the main risk IMO is the market risk, price can go up and down. Past returns, while have been fantastic, does not necessarily mean this will be repeated.

Your assets are held in custodian, therefore if something were to happen to Spaceship, theoretically, your assets can be sold and returned to you.

Spaceship is backed by some big names, including Sequoia (huge venture capital firm) and Grok Ventures (Mike Cannon Brooke's personal investment vehicle).

At the rate the platform is going and it's favourable performance compared to other apps, I strongly believe it'll get all the support from investors it needs.

    • +1

I would put it into Spaceship but may I suggest you set up a recurring investment of, say $100, every week or 2 weeks to reduce the risk (this is known as DCA - dollar cost averaging). You don't have to invest $1000 all up in one go.

Spaceship is a good place to start investing due to its low fee and ease of use. Of course past performance does not indicate future performance, but they've done pretty well especially the Origin portfolio in the past 12-18 months.

  • Just signed up and deposited. So basically I have nothing to do except deposit more money, am I right?
This is not a platform for me to choose what to buy and sell?

    • +1

That's right. They pick the stock for you depending on which portfolio you choose.

    • +1

Work just like super, choose the plan review in a few months time

  • unfortunately my referrer hasn't deposited funds yet can i swap out for another referrer?

    • The codes were flushed a few days ago, but I guess people are ignoring the text I put in bold.

    • It says don't add your code unless you have deposited funds. Check yourself.

Shouldn't get a code unless you have deposited. That is Spaceships fault.

  • Codes need to be flushed again for first of the month, Mine has changed.

    • Can you please report this to the mods? It's not letting me do it because I've reported in the past.
