Where can I get a monitor box for RMA return?

Hi All

I have to send back my monitor (27" Viewsonic) but can't seem to be able to find the monitor box I got it in. Strange of me as I keep boxes in storage, especially for something like this.

Any ideas of where I can get a descent sized box to be able to use to send it back in?

I've already asked if they can send me one and they said no, they also don't have a centre where I live (Melbourne) so I can't drop off.

Its such an awkward size I don't know how I'm going to safely be able to do this.

Any tips would be much appreciated…

Always keep your boxes, and the foam inserts. Keep that delicate white fabric thing too. Go back in time and slap yourself in the face to correct this mistake.

  • Put an advertisement on FB marketplace requesting a 27" monitor box, someone will help you out, or may be check with an e-waste place or some office IT dept guy?

  • Try Ebay, there's been a glut of listings for empty boxes. Just make sure you read the description carefully, and not get a picture of a box, or God forbid, an actual monitor in the box.

But seriously, have you tried checking with electronics or computer shops, or places that may have large boxes, like say a….. Warehouse?

  • Ask your local computer store they usually have stuff like that lying around.

Bunnings: Stitch together some boxes with tape if they don’t have big ones.

  • Gumtree $20 per box for dell 27" monitor

  • Given you are in lockdown for a while - hit up Facebook Marketplace for an empty 27" monitor box. You might have to get a few before you get one that you can cut into shape as the foam won't be right. Be a miracle if you can find the exact same model.

  • A small roll of bubble wrap is about $5 from bunnings. Google how to resize a box, measure your monitor's height, depth and length and buy a larger moving box, disassemble and invert (so the branding is inside), then resize. With two rolls of cheap packing tape this cost me ~$10 and 10 minutes to pack.

If you want to ensure the screen wont break in shipping, bunnings has 900 * 600 * 3mm sheets for MDF for $4. Cut into three, 300 * 600mm pieces (they will do it for at bunnings if you ask) and tape the three pieces to the front of the screen with one or three day painters masking tape (proper painters tape shouldn't mark the monitor). You might want to put a layer of bubble wrap between the mdf and screen to protect the screen from scratches. This should cost ~$20.

You can strengthen the MDF by gluing the layers with PVA and placing something heavy on it while it sets for 24 hours. Two pieces should be enough.

You could better protect the screen from scratches with butchers paper, but from bunnings it will add ~$10 as they come in moving sized amounts. Maybe use a $4 drop sheet?

All this makes buying a second hand monitor box for $20 sound far more reasonable (if you can find one).

  • Why not just take it back to the retail store you bought it from and let them deal with it?

  • Hey, currently in the same situation as you T^T Did you manage to find a solution to ship it back?
