Hmm..didn't bought that specific item, but I did try other item and it worked well. Maybe some glitch in their system.

This sale appears to be pretty average. 8 port gigabyte switch = $65. It's $66 at MSY.

  • +4

Man these guys are terrible, they still owe me money from running out of stock on the asus tablet like 3 weeks ago, even with constant emails.

  • A + just for the Lenovo I7 @ $548 ($698 - $150 cashcard).

    • +1

I reckon that you got it wrong…

      • +1

        It's $848 at the moment.
Would sell out quick if it was $599 BEFORE the $150 cashback.
Thinking it will drop to $749 during the sale.

    • +3

      Don't be fooled, it is $848 - $150 = $698

They highlighted the cashback discounted price in big red font and wrote the purchase price in small gray font. Very snicky.

      • LENOVO Y560P (4397M2M)
        $749 + $150 cashback
Site shows net price of $599
Great price. I got this a week ago from them.

  • Has anyone used the Netgear DGND3700 Dual-band Gigabit Modem Router before? It seems to have conflicting reviews from various sources.

    • No but thinking about getting one. PC Authority ranked it as "Labs Winner" in its test of dual band wireless routers in latest edition (Jan 2012) of magazine.

$159 + delivery at MLN but not sure about delivery cost difference:

    • I have the 3300 and it's been perfect for me.

    • Why would you buy this and not for example the Billion BiPAC 7800N?

      • Price or features?
What does the Billion offer in preference to this?

  • i have a strong feeling its a typo, even this part of the site shows 698 after cashback

    false advertising.
you cant say its $599 when its not.

    • It's been corrected - now displays as $749 before cashback

It's a shame they have not the best customer service. I don't think I've ever been contacted correctly regarding an order I've ever made with them. You have to constantly follow up with them.

    good deal for the Y560P

  • Bugger. Was really hoping an SSD would be in that list of goodies!
    Nice find though!

  • Some prices are alright but others aren't really that cheap as a sale. The 2TB WD external for $99 is good (and I believe it's a Caviar Green inside so if anyone wants it to crack open, it's a good choice), the Z313 speakers at the bottom of the page are usually $39 from Centrecom (I saw it at that price a couple of weeks ago) but that's cheaper than others still.

  • Question:

Is that a good price for the Trend Micro? Currently on my computer, I have Trend Micro Titanium installed. This thing selling on Centrecom looks the same, but it doesn't say Titanium. Does anyone know if it's the same?

    Thanks in advance! :)

    • I used an older version a couple of years ago and found it to be resource intensive. It did not uninstall cleanly and it was a tedious task to mop up the last traces of it.

    • Trend Micro = Ew.

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49009 = WIN (still works, see description)

  • Does anyone know if we could do pick up?

    • Yeah, go to the stores. They have heaps in Melbourne.

      • Thanks blackrider :o)

  • I'm deciding between the Lenovo Y560P from Centrecom and the Asus U31F from MLN. Does anyone have any opinion which is obviously a better choice?

I do understand Asus = portability but i5 and Lenovo = bulky but i7.

Just wanted to get some opinions.

    Thanks heaps.

I have the U31F with a 120GB SSD. It's nice, but after the first few months that 10 hour battery life will be more like 6-7, sometimes less. Unless you have microsoft word open and you're taking lecture notes for 10+ hours.

It's not very sturdy. It's not excessively weak, it's just plastic. There are some parts that are a bit loose, like the gap between the screen and the plastic frame. The FN keys can sometimes be unresponsive (brightness etc), I think that's a software issue but it's annoying anyway.

The webcam is really bad. And you have to go through a few pages of google to find the right drivers because the camera is up side down. It doesn't have an eSata port (Seeing that it's a cheap laptop, this to me would be an acceptable replacement for USB 3.0).

The speakers are crap. And you probably read that on every review, but these are specially quiet. My phone is louder. My sisters Dell mini 10 is a lot louder. Watching youtube videos or high def videos is a pain. By high def I mean any movies/tv shows that are contained in MKV. For normal AVI it seems to be fine.

The integrated graphics are enough for TF2 with a few scripts running to reduce the graphics quality. It's also good for watching blu-ray quality movies, and even streaming them over ethernet to the PS3 using ps3mediaserver. The fan is quiet when watching/streaming movies, but when you're playing even the smallest games it gets very loud and very hot.

I got this laptop because I told myself I don't game anymore. And I wanted something light for uni. But to be honest, portable doesn't mean sh*t. The laptop just doesn't cut it anymore, even with an SSD. The only reason the laptop is fast for me is because of the SSD (I extract huge files constantly). It's good for general computing. But, sometimes you will find yourself doing things that needs a decent CPU and this one is just too weak, especially when the power isn't plugged in. Or, even if you are doing tasks that the CPU can handle, it just gets loud and hot. It's a really weak CPU

Mine doesn't have Bluetooth. There are a few variations of this laptop so I'm assuming since MLN listed that it has BT, then it does. Also, I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to burn a DVD or had to look around the house for ages to find a USB stick so I could reinstall windows or boot something that I needed. Now I don't have any device in the house that has a CD drive <_<

Go with the laptop that has a better CPU and GPU - even if you have no intention of playing games. At least you have the option to do it.

      tl;dr definitely skip the U31F

Edit: Also I'm not a fan of the 1366x768 on either of these laptops. When I'm doing my uni work I generally have a lot of windows open, going through journal articles, youtube, ms word etc. Realistically you can only have two windows side by side and it's annoying when you have a lot open and you have to look for the one you want. But I don't think there's anything better in this price range. I'm guessing your current laptop has the same resolution so you might not care at all. It's a bit annoying that mobile phones are starting to catch up with laptops now.

I type too much. Oh well

Edit 2: I hate the click to drag feature on the track pad. It's extremely sensitive so you might find yourself moving files, folders and windows around accidentally. You can disable it but each time you restart the computer it will re-enable itself. So you've gotta go through the mouse settings, disable again blah blah.

The laptop came with so much bloatware. I removed windows and just installed my own copy since that was a lot faster than removing all the apps it came with.

I don't know anything about Lenovo. Never owned one. It could be a crap laptop, but the specs are obviously way out of the U31F's league. There is a huge difference in performance between these two machines. To me, it doesn't make sense to spend $579 on what seems like a 13" netbook when you can put an extra 20 and get something that's actually good. It has double the amount of ram (imho 4GB is not enough these days), 250GB more space, a MUCH better CPU, an optical drive, and it's roughly 1KG heavier. The i5-480m in the U31F is now obsolete. It's definitely not a future proof laptop. 1 year max. Pretty sure the U31F is discontinued actually. Replaced with the U31SD if I remember correctly

Ok that's it, my argument is done. Sorry for the huge post. But it is $600 we're talking about here :P

      • Thanks for the detailed feedback Musti. Very much appreciated :o)

  • are they open today i wonder…

Acer S3-078 $699 +shipping vs Lenovo Y560P $599 delivered? which 1 will be value for money?

  • Eh. 2TB external drive for $99 which is great, then it wanted $18 for shipping. I guess I'll just wait for umart to get stock back in and pay them the same amount. Or maybe it'll be on sale somewhere tomorrow

    http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/lenovo-ideapad-y560p-1…

Much better deal for the Y560P. 819 with 100 Paypal discount works out to be 719. 10 dollar cap shipping => 729. With 150 cashback we will only pay 579. Deal of the day.

Still more expensive. And even if it were cheaper, it wouldn't be a reason for negging the deal.

To be fair this one is so good as well, at least on par with the shoppingexpress deal.

And about the AMD one, it is REALLY cheaper at Orangeit (289 after 50 cashback), but you must buy directly from them, not via Ebay (factoring the Paypal and Ebay fees, it's fair enough).

    • Last time I bought 2 laptops with cash back offer from them, they stuff me up by sending me the invoice w/o any serials number of the laptop in them, so I can't redeem it.

take care when you buy with them…

      • But you can find the number on the laptop???

        • no u need the serial number displayed in the invoice also

  • I go to CPL. They're usually the cheapest for everything.
