How to Buy iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB Cheaper?

Hello Everyone

Its been last couple of days i am looking to buy an Iphone 12 Pro Max in 256GB but atm only Costco and 3Brothers have that on special. Costco is selling for $1949 while 3brothers have that for $1889. I think its still too much for me to spend. Simply I can't afford but tempted very much to get one.

Any other Australian reputed seller if u know any selling for special? Any discount gift cards to buy first to get phone on cheaper?

thank you

If you want something cheap buy used, if not dont buy apple phones since you ''can't afford''

      Can’t save Sheeple

      • Can't save Apple-haters who feel the need to express their feigned air of superiority on every Apple thread :)

        • -1

Can't save those "pot calling the kettle black".

          • @SF3: Uhhh, I use Apple products and can determine their value to me through how I utilise them.

You, who apparently doesn't use Apple products, and who, I'd imagine, doesn't own Apple products, come into an Apple thread to trot out the same old tired cliche of DAE APPLE SHEEPLE without a hint of irony at the fact that you're being a sheep by trotting out the exact same line other Apple-haters repeat, verbatim, like a sheep would. And we're the pot calling the kettle black, eh?

@ThithLord: too funny - I use apple products. They provide a good UX, I don't dislike them at all, I wouldn't chase the latest fad because it's on the market. It's people that follow for the sake of following, my comment isn't about Apple, so infer what you like :)

              • @SF3: lol okay mate, we'll pretend you weren't inferring anything by saying Can't save Sheeple.

used i can afford but no trust. I better wait for right time may be any deal in coming future.

Yes maybe you wait for the Iphone 13 like you had to wait for the 11 and couldn't afford that last year. Just saying

        • The good ol vicious cycle of tail chasing.

@SF3: It's the same issue with the Sony Wh100s. I want the latest at the cheapest, but I also don't want to pay more than $250 for them new.

            • +1

@Melb69: Just means it’s not needed, if someone is playing that game.

              • @SF3: My Wh100XM2s are fine. Totally agree

      • Yes, you can keep on waiting for the right price forever while new iPhones come out on the market.

  • No deals until the next iPhone is out. I paid $1989 2 weeks ago and just paid full for an iPhone 12 256gb.

  • settle for iPhone 11 Pro max? probably find one for under 1k

  • Apple tax hurts but if U can't afford this year's model then just get last years. I'm sure if U look around U can find something more reasonable.

If you want to go cheaper than 3brothers, you will need to go down the “discounted” gift card route to get one for an effective price of $1819. (I say “discounted” in quotation marks, you’ll see why soon.)

The strategy is to purchase an iPhone 12 Pro Max from David Jones (DJ) (in-store or online) using DJ gift cards purchased from Woolworths. This requires a bit of effort (and probably some luck) to pull this off…

    The prerequisites for this deal:

    • The colour you want is in stock at DJ (in-store or online),
    • You need to live near a Woolworths (or preferably multiple Woolworths stores) and you need to be an Everyday Rewards member.

    1. Purchase gift cards at Woolworths:

You will need to purchase $2000 worth of DJ gift cards from Woolworths, as there is a deal running until the end of Tuesday:

    • 1000 bonus Everyday Rewards points (equivalent to $5 at Woolworths/Big W/BWS/EG Group) when you purchase a $50 DJ gift card
    • 2000 bonus Everyday Rewards points (redeemable for $10 at Woolworths/Big W/BWS/EG Group) when you purchase a $100 DJ gift card.

You will need to purchase gift cards in at least two transactions, as you will only earn bonus points on a maximum of ten gift cards in each transaction. The preference would be to purchase only $100 DJ gift cards, as in that scenario you will only need to purchase a total of 20 DJ gift cards. You can purchase $50 gift cards, but you will see why in step 2 that $100 gift cards are the preference.

Keep in mind that stock of DJ gift cards are limited in some stores, plus you will raise suspicions from some staff members that you are either a) committing fraud or b) are falling victim of a gift card scam.

Once you have finished purchasing the gift cards, you will have 40000 Everyday Rewards points, which can be converted into $200 Everyday Rewards dollars.

Before you ask, you cannot use WISH/Woolworths gift cards to purchase the DJ gift cards. You also cannot use any Everyday Rewards dollars towards the purchase of gift cards.

    2. Consolidate DJ gift cards:

DJ has limits on the number of gift cards you can redeem in a single transaction:

    • In-store: up to 20 gift cards in one transaction,
    • Online: up to five gift cards (and no other payment methods), or up to four gift cards (and another payment method).

To get around this, you will need to consolidate the gift cards into a smaller number of gift cards (i.e. purchase gift cards with gift cards). This is permitted under clause 4.12 of the DJ gift card terms and conditions.

If you are purchasing the iPhone in-store and you have only $100 DJ gift cards, you probably don’t need to consolidate any gift cards. Otherwise, you will need to consolidate gift cards to the point where you will be under any gift card transaction limits. Keep in mind that you can only consolidate up to ten gift cards into one gift card, so you may need to do this a number of times (particularly if you ended up purchasing $50 DJ gift cards).

To consolidate the gift cards you will need to:

    • Visit the Customer Services Centre in-store, or
    • Contact the Customer Services team using the Customer Feedback form on their website to consolidate the gift cards over email.

I previously had problems trying to consolidate five gift cards worth a total of $300 into a single gift card at a DJ store, but they eventually backed down after I repeatedly protested that it was permitted under their terms and conditions…

    3. Purchase the iPhone using your gift cards and another payment method

    This step is pretty self-explanatory.

You will need to use another payment method to complete this purchase, as there is a $19 difference between the price DJ sells the iPhone and the value of the gift cards.

NOTE: if you are not already a DJ Rewards member, you can sign up and get a $10 welcome voucher as a bonus. This voucher only lasts 30 days, it cannot be consolidated into a gift card, and it counts towards the gift card transaction limits I mentioned earlier. However, if you are going to be purchasing the iPhone in-store, it won’t hurt to use this to bring the effective price down to $1809.

This strategy is not the most straightforward or reliable way to purchase an iPhone on the cheap, as it relies on a number of factors to go your way:

    • DJ gift cards are available in sufficient quantities at Woolworths,
    • You are not stopped by any Woolworths staff members (especially managers) from purchasing a large quantity of gift cards across multiple transactions,
    • Customer Services will consolidate the gift cards,
    • The configuration you want is in stock at DJ,
    • DJ does not change the desired configuration on their website to “click and collect only” (only relevant if you don’t live near a DJ that stocks iPhones),
    • DJ does not go bankrupt whilst you’re doing all of this.

It also assumes you actually see value in the 40000 Everyday Rewards points; there are people who don’t shop at Woolworths, Big W, BWS or EG Group, and you may be one of them.

Either way, I wish you luck in bargain hunting!

Gold. Alot of effort to me to get an extra $80. Better than nothing. There you go OP. Thread closed.

    • My head hurts after reading this. Is there any Advil cheap?

    • Wooky you deserve a sticky for the precise details and I wish I could follow you : )

    • Stopped by just to say props to this amazing write up. 👍👍👍

  • 3brothers are showing $2019 for me? Officeworks price beat?

  • 1) Ask JB to price match 3brothers.
    2) Hop on to telstra deal for xx amount off iphone, provided that you are spending that much amount monthly already on another carrier, without any gift card.
    3) Pay the remaining amount from discounted gift cards.

Time to amend my previous post, OP.

If you purchase 10x $200 DJ gift cards at Coles from Wednesday, you’ll earn 2000 base Flybuys points and 45000 bonus Flybuys points (which can be exchanged for $237.50 Flybuys dollars). That effectively drops the iPhone’s price to $1781.50 (or $1771.50 if you sign up for DJ Rewards).

    • but how will tha help me buying phone from DJ? can i use fly buys money there? If yes, then how? Thanlks again

      • +1

Flybuys dollars can only be used at Coles, Kmart, Target, First Choice Liquor, Liquorland, Coles Express or mycar, so if you don’t already spend money at any of those stores on a regular basis, then it kinda defeats the purpose…

I have been using the word effectively in my comments, as you can only enjoy the $200 Everyday Rewards dollars or $237.50 Flybuys dollars on future shops at businesses that accept Everyday Rewards dollars or Flybuys dollars. These are pointless if you don’t already shop at these businesses, which is why this method of purchasing an iPhone from DJ may or may not work for you.

As a side note, you may be able to buy a DJ gift card with Flybuys dollars at Coles, which means the 10th $200 gift card could be purchased with just Flybuys dollars. The reason I bring this up is that the Coles POS’ systems sometimes allows the purchase of gift cards with gift cards, and Flybuys dollars is probably treated as a gift card by the POS system. I have never tried this before though, so I have no idea whether this would actually work.
