Best nbn FTTN for Rural Areas

Will be moving to a rural town about 2hrs North of the capital city in SA, I've done the address check and it does offer many different companies from TPG to iiNet to Optus.

I've not had home internet in years which was ADSL 2.

I would like to know which company actually offers higher speeds? Every company quotes a set speed limit per plan but I want to know the real world speeds?

I want to know also which one is quicker or easiest to be connected and online?

Which one is truly unlimited and no throttling?

I want highest more reliable internet 24/7 as I'll be doing alot of Netflix and maybe even online gaming with my Xbox One X I just bought.

Thank you sir.

you will find your actual speed when you connect. Choose a provider with good customer service at the beginning in case you have a shit line.

FTTN is unfortunately not the best NBN technology. The quality of your connection will be dependant on the quality of the copper.
I would recommend Aussie Broadband as they have great customer service. The support team is quick to answer the phone and troubleshoot.

  • Pick any provider with the best customer service. They all use the same line and will provide about the same maximum speed.

Some providers do not sell more than 25mbps on fttn due to the line quality and can't guarantee speeds for 50mbps

ABB. We are in small rural town, fttn, and ABB have been great.
What's the distance from house to node?

  • Superloop, Launtel, Swoop, Aussie Broadband offer 100/40. After you have connected ask the ISP for your line length distance to the node. If your FTTN can't do 100/40 drop back to a different suitable plan.

Do you know if your area is serviced by FTTN or something else like Fixed Wireless?

I would personally go for a company with Aussie tech support first only because if you do experience issues when first connecting you'll have less trouble trying to get assistance with it to get it sorted.

I've heard horror stories with some RSP's with trying to get a hold of anyone because during Covid they closed a lot of the overseas call centres down so you get stuck with trying to get help via web or ending up stuck in a call queue for an hour before speaking to anyone which isn't ideal.

  • I would also add Future Broadband as they serve the whole of Australia with Australian support and keen prices if you don't need unlimited. They also include a static IP address that is great if you run a server or have some security camera setups, some game consoles etc. They have data banking which means you can carry unused quota over to the next month. Great in that you are not paying for the higher users that might exploit Unlimited plans. They also allow for paying in advance with a discount and have a referal program that affords a credit and extra data in ones data bank. I've been with them for a few years now and the service is very reliable, always good speeds. Highly recommend.
