[Switch] Dicey Dungeons $16.87 (Was $22.50) @ Nintendo eShop

150

New all-time low on the Switch. It’s made by Terry Cavanagh, the same developer behind VVVVVV and Super Hexagon, and has been received quite well.

This is an excellent game very addictive and replayable. I give it a 9/10.

You know those games where all of the elements work together as a cohesive whole, right from the title screen up until the post-game content? This is one of them. The gameplay, the character design, the animations, everything just flows in into the other. Despite playing it handheld mode it felt very immersive.

Despite some very very minor QOL improvements they could make, this was my GOTY 2020. Solid 10/10 from me.

  • Was laying my eyes on it, thank you OP

  • This looks interesting, but not sure I'm willing to drop $17 to get it on switch. Might wait for the iPad version to come out as it seems like it would be a good fit for touchscreen.

Any existing games on iPad that are similar? Or cheaper games for PC/Switch?

    • Dicey Dungeons has full touchscreen support in handheld mode on the Switch.

Regarding similar games on the iPad, perhaps give Slay the Spire a shot?

Looks cool thanks - just released for Android 2 days ago as well (although been on iOS for a while).

FWIW, from what I've read, the ipad release of Slay the Spire is not up to date and is a buggy mess, and the android release is pretty buggy on release too (although up to date).

I'm hoping that the android release will get the bugs ironed out…but the state of the ipad release, and the how delayed the android release was, is not a great sign! We'll see…

          • @caprimulgus: Yeah and still $15 so not a lot cheaper than Dicey Dungeons on Switch. I haven't played that style game before, but it looks interesting. I think I'll just wait for it to hit Humble Bundle or pick it up in one of the Switch 90% off sales.

            • @3: I've never been into / interested in deck building games before this, but tried Slay the Spire on XB1 (Game Pass) because of all the rave reviews, and I loved it! It is actually an awesome game!

I stopped playing it, in anticipation of getting on Android (I think it suits mobile)…but that's ended up turning into a very very long wait! (I will still probably end up buying it on Android, but I might wait a bit to see if the bugs get resolved).

I haven't tried Dicey Dungeons (I think it's a bit more random and less strategic than Slay the Spire?), but people seem to enjoy it!
