Purchased Lounge at Ridiculous Price - Now Advertised at a Cheaper Price

Here's my dilemma -

I went into Eureka Street Furniture over the weekend and got a quote on a lounge which was their 'best price'. I went home, thought it over and decided to go ahead. I rang the store and told them I would come in on Wednesday and pay for the lounge through finance. Husband went in, paid for it - all good.

Tonight I went to show a friend the lounge and it is now being advertised for $600 less than what I paid for, earlier in the day. It would have been this price when hubby went in to pay. Is there any recourse for me in regards to getting the discounted price, even though we have now paid?

I'm not sure why the sales person didn't let us know the lounge was further discounted but feel very annoyed that we were ripped off such a huge amount.

Any advice?

What did they say when you approached their staff and enquired about the price change?

    • I haven't been in yet - plan to tomorrow. We only purchased this afternoon at 4.30pm. I've emailed head office and will ring the store in the morning.

Maybe do that before ranting on OzB about it. Most places are accommodating to price difference refunds if you ask.

Their point of sale wouldn't have any kind of system to check if the advertised price is lower than the one you were quoted the week before. They would have your quote saved, and they would proceed with the quote at that price. Pretty standard.

  • Go in and ask for the difference to be refunded.

Why would you buy a couch on finance?

because it was a ridiculous price?

People sometimes pay $10-20k for couches. The OP is whining about $600. But the OP also bought a couch on finance. Make of that what you will.

        • well i think you're missing the piont here…10-20k might be nothing to a millionaire, as is $100 might be everything to someone unemployed. He's just asking why the price change and is there any recourse.

    ridiculous price

Can't be that ridiculous if you agreed to it the first time. There's nothing you or anyone here can do but ask.

You are banned from using "funny" in your display name

  • This post is a RipOff

  • Like others have already said, ask and see how you go.

However, this is like buying a bakery item at woolworths and at evening time they put clearance stickers on the same item you bought for a significant % discounted price.

  • did you pay with a CC with price protection?

Maybe the hubby was happy to pay the extra, just so he could sleep on it at night.

    • not anymore from the tone in this post.

  • If its a ridiculous price, why did you pay it ? Prices fluctuate all the time on all manner of items. You can ask for them to refund the difference but i wouldn't hold my breath.

  • The discount could be for the display stock. Speak to them and if they are not display stock, cancel the order and ask for the refund or get the difference back.

Ridiculously expensive or cheap? Why didn't you buy a cheaper couch without having to finance it instead?

Not a great idea to buy a depreciating asset using money you don't have.
