I bought this TV around a month or so ago - there was a lot of positive reviews about it. Was really disappointed with the quality of the panel and OS.
I just couldn't get the colours looking right and it just seemed cheap. The anti-reflective coating on the screen is great though.
Decided to go with Samsung in the end and happy with my decision.

I bought this TV 7 months ago, i would never downgrade to a Samsung.
The panel is great, HDR and Dolby Vision is AMAZING, FALD provides amazing blacks, the TV is VERY bright.

I have an XSX, an 4k Apple TV and my pc connected to it and it performs BRILLIANTLY
The only bad thing is the built in Vidaa that sucks(i dont care at all about it, even though netflix and amazon play really well)

If not this, go for a Sony but NOT Samsung, their models are pretty underwhelming

      • Glad to hear you had a positive experience. Maybe I just received a dud.
I'm very happy with Samsung. No complaints at all, brilliant colour, sharpness and uniformity (however I only use the TV to watch shows/movies, no gaming etc.)

Some people think that Samsung oversaturated 'Dynamic' picture with ridiculous contrast is the best and that their TV looks the best that way.
I'm sorry but this Hisense is way better than any Samsung TV in the price range. But i understand that this is a 'Chinese' brand and i will get all the downvotes from all the Strayans

          • @nikoris: Agree with you but only 9 series Sony as they have the VA panels instead of the lower models that have IPS. Colours are oversaturated on Samsungs with greens and yellows not faithful to original sources which can look fluoro a lot of the time. It's because they have raw quantum dot and Sony have a filter over theirs to make it lifelike. Samsung motion is also horrible. Even turning all settings off you still get the soap opera effect. There's a reason why Sony is a bit more expensive usually. They have almost everything refined more than others.

    • So did u return hisense and bought Samsung ?

      • +1

Yep, the Hisense wasn't in stock and I didn't want to risk getting another bad unit.

        • Which Samsung and how much more than Hisense

      • How long did you have it before you returned it and what was the process like?

I'm getting some pretty irritating dse especially while gaming. Have had it for a month but only played games on it last week.

I actually alerted the retailer on the day I received it and they took it back without any issues. There must've been something wrong with mine.
However I'm not sure what the process will be like in your situation given you've had it a month.

  • Argh! I just paid $1,280 for the 65Q7 yesterday, arrives tomorrow.

What does the 65Q8 have over the 65Q7?

        Full Array Backlight.
Brightness around 800 nits (from memory)
Makes this great for HDR. Some prefer such TVs more than OLEDs.
I haven't personally tried this model though.

        • doesnt the Q7 have full array backlight too??

          • @homersyd: Yep the Q7 has the FALD. The peak brightness of the q8 is much higher (1000 nits) which makes it suitable for HDR use (people say the peak on the Q7 doesn't make it suitable for HDR).

        • Also has much better sound

    • 200hz vs 50hz

  • Loving my Q8 - it's amazing as nikoris describes. Had a few hiccups at the start with it not automatically connecting to network when I turned it on but a factory reset solved it.

  • No HDMI 2.1?

My son recently bought the 55" model and I wasn't expecting to like it but I was blown away with the picture. The colours looked spot on, the blacks looked amazing plus the viewing angles seemed great too. I have an old Panasonic 50" plasma and I haven't liked any LED TV I've seen until I saw this Hisense. I was all set to buy one but it doesn't have a component input which I still need, so now I'm back to square one.

Get a component to HDMI converter for $25 or less.

    • You can get a hdmi to component converter for any TV. Costs a few dollars

      • Thanks guys, I have investigated this option but these cheap ones seem to have poor conversion quality from the feedback I've read and one that's recommended and gets excellent reviews cost somewhere in the hundreds. I'd rather get a TV that has component so I know will produce a decent picture.

        • I've used one many years ago cost me around 10 or 15 bucks. The TV you use it on is the deciding factor, depends how good it upscales the content. The converters either work or it doesn't.

        • I'd rather get a TV that has component so I know will produce a decent picture.

You won't find anything new with it. Its dead and will be long gone. Then the split cable adapters for the RCA are dead

  • I got this tv for $1690 at TGG last month. Jb would have matched the price too.

  • Damn I've been waiting for this TV to come down but now I need money for other stuff!!

  • The free shipping is only to certain areas. Need to update the post - $62 postage to Gold Coast.

Feel like a Hisense rep but I can't help but speak highly of this. I've had it since July 2020 and aside from the OS, it's an absolutely top notch TV. I got it for around this price and it's been a great no-regret buy. I've had friends and family come over and they were blown away by the deep blacks and the bright picture. I've finally bought a sound bar to pair with the TV but the little sound bar it comes with is actually pretty solid compared to the average TV speaker.

As cool as it would be to have an LG OLED, I have no desire to pay double the price to get one. Honestly, I still check out TV's whenever I'm at a JB just to see what's out and I'm still super happy with the purchase and I still don't see/can't justify the premium price of a top Samsung QLED or LG OLED over the Q8.

    • I'm wondering if the price of the Q8 will drop to the $1500 mark when the 2021 Hisense models get released. Looks like new Hisense models releasing in Australia in February.

      • Hope so!! Is the 65Q8 the best value TV in this price range - $1.5-1.7k? If not, what are some others I should look at? I keep being drawn back to the 65Q8.

        • I would say so. If you can get this Q8 for $1700 or less, it's a great buy. I looked at others and considered the Samsung Q70 (and Q60) as well as the LG in that similar price bracket ($1.8-2k discounted) and they all were missing key features I was looking for (FALD, brightness to handle HDR confidently, overall picture quality). For the same specs, I would have to spend over $2k easily for a Sammy, LG or Sony.

I did also cross shop the TCL but for the equivalent TV(I think it was the c815 or something), the brightness was downright atrocious. I've read it was around 400nits whereas the Q8 was suppose to be around 1000.

I did my fair share of research and know a decent amount (for the average consumer) about TV's over the course of 6mths while I waited for a deal to come up on OzB. Saw a good deal and went for it. Not sure what's coming up for 2021 but I have zero regrets

    • Have the 55Q8 and agree completely with your sentiments.
