    Here we go again…

For anyone who can't remember from last time:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/583932

To get a free week you need to put down a $200 deposit and you're limited to 80km per week (excess usage billed at $5 per km!). Once the free trial ends it's $29 per week… that's $1508 over a year and you can easily buy a good electric bike for that much which doesn't track you and bill you excess when you ride more than 80km per week.

Other problems include fees like $25 for a flat tyre and a muddy T&C's that means GPS data from the bike is shared with them that they can sell to third parties makes this the deal to avoid.

Full T&C's which should be posted:

    • thanks

      80km per week lol.

      11.5km a day.

Most commuter cyclists will do that without flinching. No time for groceries or fun rides!

    • Hi Henrus,

Thanks for your feedback. Our subscriptions come with safely accessories to get you on the road safely and legally, and are designed for those who want to rent an e-bike just for a couple of months.

You're welcome to check out our other plans if you realise you go above 80km, which are actually also rolling over week on week, meaning that if you only ride 20km one week, you will get 140km to ride with the next week.

Once again at this stage we do not share any GPS Data with any third party, and flat tyres and basic servicing are also included in your subscription free of charge.

Also please note that the $200 bond is refundable upon return of the bike.

We'd love to have you in store for you to try our e-bikes!

      Thanks,

      The Zoomo Team -

      • A bit of advice to the Zoomo team.

I recommend you prepare a 'summarised' version of the terms and conditions and list out the fees / bonds / deposits that are payable upfront prior to the user taking up the service as well as possible usage charges — and include them in your deal descriptions going forward. Also include a link to the legal documentation at the bottom of the deal for convenience of those who genuinely want to take up the deal.

Because of all the strings attached to the deal we also cannot classify it as a "freebie" - freebie deals must not have any fees at all.

        Thanks and regards

Key wording. Does that mean that it is in the business plan, but you just haven't found anyone to buy it yet?

        • Hi - in the future use of GPS Data could be used to recover bikes in case of theft.

          • @zoomobikes: So why wouldn’t you just say “ We will never sell your location data to third parties”?

I'm curious as to what you've changed since last time…

To put it in perspective I ride an e-scooter generally over 80km per week but I am interested in getting an e-bike. I probably wouldn't hire one but if the deal/price was right I'd consider it. As I ride over 80km per week I'd need the $45 plan which works out at $2340 per year (around the same price as a high quaility e-bike).

Previously you responded with the following and nothing above seems to have changed:

We are currently revising our terms and condition to meet private users' need, but rest assured in the meantime that

As of right now the terms and conditions are still the same, quite confusing, and also well hidden on your website. Things like the $5 per km excess should be published upfront instead of buried away. Last time (with the month free) you almost got me to sign up except for the fact you failed to mention the excess usage and deposit.

Servicing is included in all subscriptions, including flat tyres and general wear and tear to ensure your safety. Repair costs will only be incurred in the case of broken parts to ensure our riders' safety.

Whilst you've said this both times, your terms and conditions (Appendix A - page 11) clearly list a fee for all replacement items (including flat tyres). So you either need to update your terms and conditions to say what is included (and remove prices for things that are) or acknowledge that the prices in the terms are what will be charged.

Either way, I feel like you're using OzBargain as an advertising platform for overpriced rentals and this is something I do not respect.

        • Hi Henrus - we're sorry to hear you feel that way.

We are working to make electric bikes affordable with our flexible subscriptions which include servicing and cover.

If you're interested in buying an e-bike, we have just restocked a great selection of refurbished e-bikes: https://buy.ridezoomo.com/

You can also enquire about buying one of the brand new e-bikes available for rent, we have some pretty attractive rent-to-own schemes which might be a good fit for what you're after.

          Thanks,

          The Zoomo Team -

      • For a start, you might want to cap prices on the $29 plan to the price of the local unlimited km bikes. Otherwise it becomes like those nonsensical phone and internet plans of the past.

"Oh I've reached 79 km! Looks like I'm better off paying another $200 deposit for another starter plan."

  • +how much is the theft cover? Do you have to charge it often?

    • -5

      Hi Amorn,

Our option theft cover comes at $10 per week, which reduces your liability to a $500 excess instead of $1500.

Let us know if you have any further question,

      Thanks,

        $500 excess instead of $1500

Wait, what rare earth metals are these bikes made from again?

Do you have to charge it often?

Not as often as they charge you 😂🤣

  • This place reminds me of that share car company I saw a few months ago, where you lease cars for a flat fee per month but never actually own equity in the vehicle. I thought at the time that it's aimed at people who don't understand math very well.

Look like this is the same. Since you can't really turn the sub on and off as needed, you wont need to repair a virtually new bike and there's only a small chance of flats, this deal is pretty terrible, you own nothing after paying the company $1508.

    • Hi Nalar, if you're interested in renting an e-bike for more tham just a few months, we actually have a quite attractive rent-to-own scheme where some of the price of your rental will be put towards equity of an e-bike.

  • Can't wait to own an Ebike one day when I hit my 70s.

  • OP please post the minimum spend to get a week free?

    • Hello - There is no minimum spend, you will just be required to pay a refundable $200 bond upon pick-up or delivery of your bike.

  • Hi, do you also come and pick up the bike after we are done with it or do we have to take it to the store?

    • Hi Michael,

Depending on where you live, we can certainly arrange a pick-up of the bike wherever it suits you when you decide to return it.

      Thank you!

      Laurent -

Nice way to try out ebikes before purchasing one.

  • Some of the prices are insane. $200+ to rent an ebike for a month. Would have a reasonably high end one paid off in a year…

    • +2

They're asking $89 a week for the Zero bike. Add on $10 for insurance and you're over $400 a month. $5,200 per year.

Makes buying outright look like a no brainier. Even buying a bike on credit card and paying 20% interest seems comparatively sensible.

      • Hello - The Zoomo Zero is available on the Starter Plan for $39.

        • Ok, thanks.

If insurance isn't taken, what is the maximum financial liability to the customer for the Zero?

          • @ash2000: Hi - In case of a proven theft of the bike, you would be liable of up to $1,500

            • @zoomobikes: Thanks,

What about an "unproven" theft? Or an act of negligence?

              • @ash2000: Hi - we would then assess the situation on a case-by-case basis and engage with relevant authorities and institutions.

                • @zoomobikes: But if I rent a car and take no insurance, I write the car off, I know my liability (to the car's owner) tops out at the value of the car.

If I rented your bike and didn't take insurance, you can't say what the maximum financial risk I may face is? I accept it may depend on circumstances, but what is the maximum?

Hint: It can't be more than the bike's replacement cost.
