Dash Cam Road Rage: Bad Drivers Who Become Abusive

I'm sure we have all encountered it on the road: a bad driver who becomes abusive if you beep them.

This clip was forwarded to me yesterday and I figured people like this should get more exposure.

If you have similar clips, post them here!
(I prefer you don't post clips where a driver has made a genuine mistake and the dashcam owner loses it)

If people are interested in watching things like that they can subscribe to Dashcam Owners Australia… There's thousands of hours of such footage, I don't think any one particular occurrence could be important enough to share as a post on ozbargain (unless it is like Scomo getting run over or something).

    • +8

Or if someone has footage of Scomo running into Engadine Maccas….

      • +10

Rarer footage be of ScoMo actually running the country

        • +4

You could stop at actually running.

    • +5

People have posted less. I wouldn't mind if it was a decent video but this one was lame. And those shorts…I hope this was Melbourne.

      • It's definitely in Sydney. Sign showed (Crows Nest, Epping and Lane Cove).

        • +2

This is Chatswood, I think. Looks like the RSL on the corner and the new Metro station being built opposite.

          • +2

@o53djz7qTPY4der: Between artarmon and lane cove, on pacific highway northbound.

      • Nothing wrong with those shorts. I remember when shorts were shorts. Not the knee length monstrosities of today.

        • Not the knee length monstrosities of today.

They coexisted, under a different, proper and individual name, with shorts.

They were called bermudas not shorts nor anything else. Bermudas. Everybody was happier then …

This trash should be posted on a dash cam site not here

  • +7

    Boring without sound.

It's become the norm in Sydney that if someone either deliberately or mistakenly does something stupid and you beep them that they at the very least give you the finger, optional follow up brake checks and if they're really insecure, exit they're vehicle to abuse. Send them to dashcam channel for the exposure (like Mr Filter last week), no point posting them here.

      Mr Filter copped it hard

      • Mr Filter copped it hard

Only in words, in forums and NOTHING ELSE of substance. No charges, no fines, no nothing.
It will happen again and again.

Do you remember the Jeep guy saying: "I will break your neck" to that female driver? NOTHING either!

    • Yep, I see bad driving (like, really bad driving) on a daily basis in Sydney. Impatient bad drivers everywhere.

  • -3

Yeah ok fair enough - mods feel free to delete if inappropriate.

Shame there is no sound as it looks like there were some racial undertones in this clip.

Does anyone know the outcome of that video a few months ago where a guy reversing a jeep in a carpark threatened to break the neck of the lady with the dashcam?

      Huh?

      • +1

The yobbo was caucasian, so you know, white privilege and all that?

No, that's one of the unfortunate things, there's rarely any long term follow up to vids like these.

      • That's because most of these are just one-off events and life goes on as it always has once the 'excitement' of the encounter has gone.

        • +1

True but I'd still be interested in hearing a follow up to a few, like the Jeep one mentioned above.

          • @apsilon: Things can be escalated. Especially when it happens to a woman with children (bonus if single mum, and/or minority) and they either have a traumatic experience or feign it. Then the news outlets gets involved, and scumbags like them get ousted or ostracised by their peers. Some cases its leads to being fired from their workplace and affects their future job prospects.

While, I think this is an appropriate response on rare occasions… yet, I do know this is definitely a slippery-slope that can lead to the "Cancel Culture" that's rampant in the USA. I don't want that here. In general, I think we are less violent and better behaved here, and when things go awry, I think we're more tolerant too. Let's take a breather before escalating things is my stance.

    • Sounds like you just discovered dashcams, have fun.

I think I found your perpetrator:

If you're surprised this happens so often, there's a simple one word answer to it. That word is meth

    • +1

      Spot on.

    • My thoughts exactly. Old mate looked cooked!

  • +1

HAHA, noodle arms wants to come up and abuse me, well that goes two ways.

  • Isnt it easier to just post youtube link with the search words road rage in it? you probably get 50,000,000 hits

  • Slow news day…

i'm in no way endorsing the behaviour of the suburu driver,

if I did the same as the OP, my wife would have said to me.. "was it necessary for you to beep? Okay the guys an idiot and cut you off and nearly caused an accident. what if he got out of the car with a gun? was it OK for the kids to hear the obscenity, when you beeped the horn, what did you want to achieve?

my wife doesn't like confrontation, and says just let it go, what is the point, your not going to be able to change the guys behaviour,

    • -2

what did you want to achieve?

On top of that it is illegal use of the horn. There was nothing to prevent … other than infuriating others …

    • +4

      Good point…

I can't speak for when the driver in the video used his horn, but if someone is on a collision course with you, beeping to alert them (and possibly prevent the collision) is absolutely justified use of the horn.

Your comment is valid… But only when the horn is used after the incident to "tell the other driver off".

    • +3

If someone is swerving in and out of lanes, I would consider that an accident in progress. It may take months or years, but it's a matter of when, not if.

What it boils down too, is that dangerous drivers don't always know they're dangerous drivers. Too many times I've seen drivers nearly cause an accident but avoid it because the drivers around them were extra cautious. Without a beep, the worry is that these people come to believe they are skilled drivers, instead of just lucky.

I know I've been beeped before when I made a quick lane change. Had the car not beeped, I would have just thought it was another idiot who floors it just to have to brake right behind you. Because they did, I realized they were there the whole time, and my car has a pretty bad blind spot on that side. Thanks to that, I now turn my head a little more to make sure no-ones there.

I hope that my occasional horn in these situations contributes to someone realising that they should stop driving while on their phone / get a medical review / hand back their licence etc.

  • You have not mentioned at what speed you are driving. I do get frustated when people drive almost 10 to 15 km under speed limit and que up the traffic. This lower north shore pacific hwy is very narrow and speed limit of 60KPH and driving under is really frustate.

I too swear myself if i find someone driving under thier own dreams without considering the other people especially driving on right side of the road and under the limit.

While I agree with your sentiment that it can be frustrating to be held up, what does any of it have to do with a bloke not being able to stay in their own lane? If you think it's acceptable to drift into other lanes because the road is a little narrow or because you're not a competent driver, hand in your licence. It'll save the frustration for both yourself and others.

      • -7

That show how arrogant you are

        • +4

LOL, you think I'm arrogant because I expect a driver to be competent enough to stay in their own lane?

    • +2

If you have a look at the video (GPS speed is in the bottom left corner), the driver was doing the speed limit in the left lane.
