  • Very tempting, I had one of the first ones though (et-2500 maybe), and it was constantly having to be cleaned, maybe not surprising since I used it infrequently.
My neighbor has a later gen one though and she's happy with it. Very good price, especially for the 2700.

  • This is great, beats throwing out the $18 printers and a possible alternative to a laser printer. Still hanging out for a cheap colour laser though as I don't print enough to ensure the ink doesn't dry out

    Ignore.

    • OK.

  • ET not laser

  • Had my eye on one of these EcoTank printers ever since they were released. I thought they were a good alternative to using aftermarket cartridges and CISS solutions but the reviews say otherwise sadly..

They appear to have just as many issues and not worth the effort if you’re not printing frequently enough. Ended up with an inexpensive colour laser instead (one that has aftermarket toner support). It’s not without its foibles but much better suited to infrequent printing in my opinion.

    • I'm interested in a cheap colour laser too. What brand and model did you buy? What foibles does it have?

      • I’ve been waiting for an AirPrint capable small colour laser to hit $300 or less.
        Waiting a long time…

I got the Brother HL-L3230CDW for around $230 delivered. After market toner sets are ~$70, so very reasonable.

I've owned various inkjet and mono laser printers in the past and this was my first colour laser ever and I found that toner cartridges can be quite fiddly when outputs aren't quite right or if you end up with poor quality cartridges (no different to an inkjet in this regard, I guess). You just need to get familiar with the troubleshooting routines and be prepared to throw out of a bad toner. That said, once things are working you shouldn't have to fiddle with it again until you replace a toner or drum unit.

Good thing I like about them is that the toner doesn't dry out and there are no nozzles to clog. As such, so you won't end up getting a nasty surprise when you have an urgent print job after not having turned on the printer for weeks or months. That used to drive me nuts with an inkjet.
