  • performance of this in comparison of 3000 series?

    • +1

Generally slightly more powerful than a 3070 but depends on game and resolution. Loses out to 3070 at 4k , doesn't have competitive rayteacing, lack of Dlss but they have a competing feature in the works with no eta/information.

Check out any other threads on ozbargain. It's a decent card but overpriced as it's quite close to msrp/reference model price of a 6800xt.

Insert, better to wait for 6800xt at this price or just grab a 3070 for relatively cheaper for similar performance but better feature set.

Dlls nvenc and rt are all good reasons to not buy amd cards if it meets your use case.

It's a great price at the moment considering lots of 6800 aib models are breaching 6800xt prices. Even though you'd be hard pressed to find any xt versions close to this, you can hold out and wait for stock issues to subside but that might take ages considering further rumours. Gddr6 production costs are potentially going to impact gpu costs soon but that's the rumour.

      • I agree with everything except the 3070 being "relatively cheaper". Some are even more expensive than this model.
        I myself don't care about RT/DLSS so I'd happily choose a 6800 at $1100

I'm not sure the data backs up all your claims. On the 6800 raytracing is average at best. DLSS 2.0 is actually quite good on the 3000 series so it's a decent loss to not get that. But only if you care about it.

What is misleading is that you say "Loses out to 3070 at 4k". On average it holds a small lead across all resolutions. TechSpots 18 game average at 4K gives the 3070 a 73 frame average vs 84 for the 6800. That's about 14% lead.

Loses out to 3070 at 4k

        You're thinking of the 6800XT vs 3080.

This is definetly not true for the 3070 vs 6800. The 6800 is faster throughout compared to the 3070. It's faster at 4k than 1080p compared to the 3070. Decisively too, 10-20% faster. The 3070 doesn't have the faster GDDR6X the 3080 has, and actually has less memory bandwidth than the 6800, and no infinity cache to make up for it.

The 6800 doesn't compete with the 3070. It sits somewhere between it and the 3080, mid way more or less

      • Also, maybe a bit niche but if you want to stream to a TV, NVIDIA's tech that can be used by Moonlight is more mature. If you're interesting in machine learning applications, generally the most popular libraries are reliant on NVIDIA GPUs.

For pure performance, if you plan to keep your GPU for a while, it is quite plausible that the 8GB memory on 3070 vs 16GB on 6800 will play a bottleneck factor especially if texture packs get bigger.

  • seem new stocks are coming

  • Harvey Norman deal for 6800XT was cheaper only a few weeks back and its about 25% faster? Not a great deal imo

    • You will probably never get that :P

He will in 2.5 to 3.5 months

    • That was different it was a pre-order from hardly normal which takes 2 to 3 months at least. This is a Rx 6800 but its instock now.

I guess its a 25% price premium for the impatient ones :)

        • Impatient is the middle name of many PC gamers. Umart knows this and profits from it.
