Heya from a Board Game Lover, Grandma-Trolley-Wanting Newbie

Hi,

I have been a long time infrequent viewer of this site and I am now trying to become a more active user.

I am a big fan of board gaming, trivia, music, and I love going out to dinner with friends.

At the moment I am on the hunt for a good, but not fancy grandma trolley - I am particularly looking at the ones with a kick-out seat. I'd love to hear your suggestions on which are worth buying. Example of Grandma Trolley

I follow board gaming fairly closely and am fairly adapt at spotting a good deal and I hope to start sharing these with you. In the mean time I suggest Board Game Oracle as a great site to use.
(Though, although it's great to get an amazing deal from online, there isn't anything wrong with spending a little extra at your friendly local gaming store(FLGS) from time-to-time :) )

Cheers,

Kez

  • Are you affiliated with that website in any way?

I know there are board game collectors here that will appreciate good deals being posted. Even classic basic board games like Risk are appreciated when a good deal on a real set comes up.

    • good question! I'm not affiliated with board game oracle (I assume it's American?). I just find it the the best resource at the moment. Ozgamefinder used to be my go to, but it has now closed up shop.

I probably won't be able to remark on Risk or any of the oldies because I don't follow that side of board gaming so I have no idea of the retail value in general, but I can remark on a lot of the Board Game Geek top 200

ooo, great question! and I'd love to read your's and other's replies to this to.

based off games that I am almost always keen to play, I'd say that these would be my top ten:

      • Tales of the Arabian Nights
      • Tzolkin
      • Wingspan (especially with the Oceania expansion)
      • Lost Cities
      • Lord of the Rings: Journeys In Middle Earth
      • Pandemic (especially Season 1)
      • Crokinole
      • Treasure Island
      • Clank! In! Space!
      • Diamant / Incan Gold (two names for the same game)

and right now I am loving having my butt-kicked by Friedemann Friese's Friday.

That is an excellent top ten!

Ten games I'd probably most prefer to play right now would be:

        • Wingspan
        • Sushi Go! Party
        • Patchwork Express
        • The Isle of Cats
        • Zombicide
        • LotR LCG
        • Crosstalk
        • Mansions of Madness
        • Pandemic
        • Sentinels of the Multiverse (solo, family has no patience for this)
        • Nice list! I haven't heard of Crosstalk before - it sounds similar to Decrypto??

Also, I don't know why I never thought of playing Sentinels as a solo game. I'll have to give that a go at some point.

          • @Kezrez: It looks like there are a couple of crosstalk games, the one I'm thinking of is https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/215371/crosstalk . I've not played Decrypto but that looks interesting. CrossTalk has the oblique clue-giving of codenames but both teams are using the same words, like pictionary, and the clue boards add some complexity. It's worked pretty well with a group who was already enjoying codenames.

If you can tolerate playing board games on a PC or mobile device, the ports of Sentinels are pretty good and they are intermittently on sale at a pretty good discount.

            • @unreliablenarrator: ah sweet. I do enjoy playing board games and board-game-like games on the computer. I have been enjoying Sagrada, Hero Realms, That's Pretty Clever, Slay the Spire, and Monster Train (as well as a whole slew of games on Board Game Arena).

      • What crokinole board do you have?

        • I bought one from Crokinole Australia. The guy who makes them is based in Brisbane which is where I am. His boards are the only boards I've ever used, but I think they are good and a few people I know have also bought them since.

are you looking to get one?

What is a grandma trolley? A quick google suggests it might be a shopping trolley, but your post seems to be about games otherwise, so I thought that maybe it's a gaming culture reference.

    • Had your coffee yet pjetson?

    • heya, it's a shopping trolley for personal use. Something like this

I like going to the local markets, but on a hot day having a backpack can be a bit much, so I am keen to buy a trolley.

Kmart has one which is a bit more like a wheely walker and is quite expensive

Doesn’t have a seat but we use one like this. It is easier to drag and doesn’t kick into our heels.

    • brilliant - on sale too! I will look over it tonight. I want one with a seat but I am kinda waiting for someone to say that they are not quite as good as they sound.

  • I bought this one to use as a shopping trolley. It's a rollable esky type thing and currently on sale, though it's been cheaper.

It's insulated so good for cold stuff.

Mine didn't come with the removal liner, so I contacted Amazon expecting a small credit, but they gave me a full refund so it was essentially free.

It's much better quality than this foldable shopping crate which I purchased first.
