To apply, you need to be a project lead or a core contributor for an active open source project that is at least 30 days old.
Your project needs to use a standard open source license and must be non-commercial. It should not have paid support or pay contributors.
Just use Keepass.
Keepass with Dropbox or Google or other cloud service works great. A bit tricky to set up but otherwise it is a great alternative.
It's a little clunkier and there are some (extremely minor) security issues I have with it in comparison. They're only really things that happen because of poor user behavior but I prefer idiot proof, especially when giving to less techy users.
BitWarden is another free option.
It's been a while since I tried another solution since 1Password is pretty cheap, secure and works really really smoothly. But it's more important that people use something so they can keep secure unique passwords everywhere without any friction.
Personally I also avoid using 2FA within the same app, but have set that up for less technical users since it makes it really easy for them to use 2FA.
I found issues with some of the free solutions having extensions / apps developed by others as well. It just means there's more potential points of failure.
My preference for a personal password manager is Bitwarden, as even the free version offers multi device access, but horses for courses, and I'm sure for anyone this offer is applicable to, it's an attractive one.

For me it doesn't matter which password manager you end up using, be they free or paid.
At least your not reusing or a variation of the same password for various sites! Most password manages have some auto complete/fill in functions that work with most Web browsers and also work well on mobile devices (both iOS and Android).
Try them out and decide for yourself as not all password managers are equal and most also come with other included features.
Good of 1Password to support open source communities.

Good deal if you're already involved in an open source project. I pay for the family version of this and it's the easiest to use password manager I've come across and extremely secure. (I've read their whitepaper in detail and have an above average understanding of cryptography - albeit not an SME).
