Great deal, I choose AMD 5800X.

Dang.. Trying to hold off for the 5900X but this is a great price!
Anyone think that the 5900X is worth the extra $200?
I don't game but do constant video editing.

    • The Ryzen beats it in every metric. Personally I would pay the extra $200 for the newer architecture.

        That's a far call.
I've been going off Puget System Benchmark and it seems only around 10-15% faster despite the 24% price premium..

        • You'd only buy the 5900x if you can make use of the workload speeds. If it's only for gaming then a 5600x will suffice. Paying through the roof for figures makes you abit of a figure. A dumb one.

          Edit:
          a. no disrespect
          b. also I find myself using vm's quite abit in which case intel's virtualisation helps quite alot it just doesnt run as smooth on amd

          • @Lighter Fluid: Yeah that's what I've gathered too. I just find Premiere to be less buggy with AMD but that's my experiences with them back in the Bulldozer days when they weren't in the game.. Maybe it's finally to give AMD another go seeing as huge pro editing people/companies are switching to the 59XX series

    • What are you currently running?

      • Still rocking a 6700K + GTX 980 from a few years back.
Definitely struggling with multiple layers of 4K videos from work.

    • For video editing, I would 100% pick the 5900X, even the 5800X would do far better than the 10900k.

If it was gaming… the 10900k is still marginally better, but the difference is barely a few FPS. Given the 10900k is significantly cheaper, it gets my thumbs up if anyone is looking for a CPU only for gaming.

      • Yeah people do say the 5800X would do better. I'm in a bit of a pickle cause the main thing I look at with editing is H264 decoding which no one really looks at. It uses mainly single core performance. Encoding and rendering can take advantage of multi cores more which is why the 5900X pulls ahead. Regardless I think I'd rather a machine that uses less power than the i9

  • So tempted right now! I've been waiting for the 5900X for damn too long. I've had the 32GB RAM ready for a few months lol waiting to buy a CPU and then I'd just get the motherboard locally. If this was the K, not the KF at this price, I would have bit the bullet right now.

    • Do you really need the integrated graphics?!

      • +1

I would disable it from the BIOS on first boot, but it's very useful when a GPU fails and you need to wait for an order or a deal (or a good time comes where you can sell off your old GPU for a decent price, and wait a few weeks for a new release). At least the PC remains usable. Unless of course one has an extra GPU saved around for emergencies.

        • The "K" is also being sold there for $735.

  • +1

Intel is the cheaper and more value based proposition now. A pretty far throw from their "AMD is for people who can't afford Intel" days eh? Because this is a great deal for what you get.

Also, I've seen Intel "K" CPUs, but not "KF". What is KF?

    • +4

      F is no integrated graphics

  • Is the K model worth it over the F model? Do these actually overclock at all or are they at their limits at stock clocks?

  • The 10900K version is still on sale on eBay, $675 at computer alliance. Plus members only though.
