Bing Lee is selling Homedics brand uv sanitiser for $28 (normally $100 from JB HIFI and Myer). Limited stock but available at Rhodes, NSW and also 'scheduled collect' at surrounding NSW stores.

    • Hmm seems good and cheap price. Any word on how good this is?

    • Good price, but doesn't fit the note10+ in case anyone was wondering.

  • Bear in mind that this will eventually damage your phone.

    • how?

      • +5

        UV degrades materials, particularly plastics.

          Spot on.

I have seen idiots install CAT6 cables outside only to have the plastic jacket rip apart after a couple of years since they didn't bother to buy the more expensive UV treated version.

    • Recommended exposure is 3 minutes.

I don't think this is driven by nuclear power so that exposure will be a minuscule compared to using your phone outdoors in direct sunlight.

Or put it into the sun for free.

What's the difference between this and wiping down your phone with an alcohol/antibacterial wipe and leaving it for 60 seconds to make sure that the germs are destroyed?

    • What's the difference between this and wiping down your phone

I guess the latter needs less efforts other than that probably not much. BTW, the alcohol wipes can degrade the screen coating over time unless you are using screen protector.

      Disclaimer: I use none!

What a neat way to waste your money.

  • Can this be operated while charging?
Looks like the LEDs are only under the lid which means you'll have to flip the phone and clean it twice

  • Go and buy 100 of those really tiny alcohol wipes for a fraction of the cost. I buy them in bulk and use them to clean my phones. You'd be surprised just how much dirt and grime gets on a reasonably clean phone. A UV light simply won't be as effective as alcohol wipes.

These UV gadgets are a gimmick and capitalise on covid. The alcohol wipes will undoubtedly be better in the long run as they actually remove germs and bacteria. Just make sure you have a screen protector on your phone when using them.

    • Where do you get your wipes? I got some from Officeworks a while back, but last time I went there I couldn't find them.
