  • with the torch that use 18650 batteries, how do you recharge them?

    • +1

Specific Li-Ion battery chargers. LiitoKala and Nitecore are a couple of brands.
Online is your best bet but you can find them at local stores like Jaycar

  • +3

Thanks, I've bought a couple of torches.

Also upvoted for great formatting and detailed descriptions on this post.

  • +1

You will need a special recharge unit. These cannot be charged in the usual AA or AAA units for NiMh etc. I have a charger that will do NiMh, Li-ion and Li-Fe and is big enough to handle these batteries. It’s a LiitoKala brand I bought off Banggood or Ali a couple of years ago.

The 18650 batteries will last a long time - they are the same ones used in 18v rechargeable power tools eg Ryobi…. except the power tool version is high discharge.

BTW - I bought the Q5 Cree 2 piece torch set for $13 a few months ago. For $9.99 they are a good torch. The LED colour is a bit strange - neither CoolWhite nor WW, but the price is good.

  • The rechargeable ones don't come with batteries, no mention on lumens. I'll pass

    • For the first USB ones the picture says 'rechargeable battery include'. I bought them on that basis, is that not right?

      • +1

I didn't check them all so it prob does :)

This is from the 4pack (first rechargeable listing)

POWER SOURCE - Conveniently powered for hours with batteries or one 18650 rechargeable battery. (Batteries not included) ★Tip: If you use 18650 battery, flashlight will be more bright. If you use 3 AAA batteries, flashlight will be not achieve highest lumens.★

    • Basically half the advertised lumens.

To be honest I'd rather have a dedicated lithium cell charger that the built in chargers. Who knows what amperage and temp they allow the cell to charge at

      • A bit over complicating the situation for a $10 torch, no?

        • Not in the slightest. The LiitoKala charger that I purchased for Li-Ion cells does NiMh and Li-Fe as mentioned above and eliminates the need for other chargers ie Eneloop batteries, AA and AAA rechargables

  • The first and third items on the list seem identical($9.99 Q5 Cree Torch 2 Pcs) ($10.99 T6 Cree Torch 2 Pcs)but for $1 more the "T6" model has twice the lumens(1,000lumens) compared to the Q5(500 lumens), also the T6 model has an IPX5 rating but the Q5 only has an IPX4 rating, this means that the T6 model has better rain/water protection.
Otherwise the Q5 and T6 models seem identical, but $1 more buys a much brighter torch with better rain protection!!

Just an addition to my own comment, the Q5 torch advertises itself with an IP65 rating in the headline
but when you scroll down to the specification comparison it's quoted as IPX4.

    • Pity about AAA conventional batteries. I don't think it would last long using those. I'd probably go for the 18650, but if you don't already own those and a charger it adds to the cost. Also expect the T6 to run significantly hotter.

  • What does the "sensor" do on the headlamps? There's a version with and a version without the sensor, but I can't tell what the sensor does?

    • It's a touchless hand wave sensor. Shows in the pictures.

  • Do u have any ip8 (waterproof) ones for sale?

  • Do you have anything similar to this: YIFENG XML T6?

    • +2

The $10.99 T6 Cree Torch 2 Pcs is identical to the YIFENG XML T6. If you have a look at the photos of both torches you'll notice the shape is identical, all the writing on it is the same, the only difference is that each torch has their own brand name on it. There must be some factory in China pumping out millions of these. I've bought 2 packs of them from different sellers. They make great bike lights using a cheap mount like this

      • Awesome; just bought a 2 pack so thank you very much.

I was confusing myself as I thought the one I mentioned took 2 x 18650 batteries, but then I remembered that I had 2 torches, so I was technically using both of the 18650 batteries that I had.

Ironically though only one of the two torches I originally bought actually worked, so now I'll only have 1 battery spare for my 2 new torches.

Any recommendations on the best place to buy more batteries?

  • Damn they were $12.99 when I bought them on Amazon on black friday.

  • Oops. Was just about to make payment and price changed.
