Just noticed a good deal for anyone chasing one of these units, that are highly recommended by the majority of reviewers who have them! This bundle is especially good if you don't have a compatible bike computer as this bundle comes with a head unit. Cheaper than the old models that are still floating around out there.

The newer RTL515 is also available (though you may get a better deal on the unit by itself elsewhere) if you have an existing compatible device to use for the radar read out:

From my brief research, it seems like one of the only differences between the 510 in the bundle and the newer 515 is the latter has BLE for connecting to smartphones.

Great technology for extra safety and peace of mind for road cyclists. I can't wait to start using mine!

As per the description, if you already have a Garmin/Wahoo/etc, you will be better off getting the newer model. The RTL515.
So the Garmin/Wahoo/etc becomes the head unit and you wont need the head unit.

I have seen them as cheap as around $290 give or take

    • If you don't need the peleton mode or Bluetooth you can also look at just the RLT510, it's essentially the same thing but you may find it even cheaper.

  • how much of a theft target are these things?

    • Considering people will steal anything probably the same especially given its unassuming nature.

    • You can always get a bike camera with built-in alarm! Example: https://youtu.be/lodZWW-PRMw

      • ooh nice! you know what would be great? a dashcam with park mode and remote viewing

I use and recommend the RTL515 for longer road rides such as Audax. I don’t have/need a Garmin head unit (such as an edge) just pair with Bluetooth and smartphone. Paid $240ish as was about $340 on Garmin website less 20% Bupa discount and recent $30 off promo code. I’ve seen the Garmin Bupa discount go to 30%.

There is also a model without a rear light, but the light is good and I use it on flash, easily gets 12hrs.

    • The one without the light has just over 1/2 the battery life of the one with the light.

    • Thanks for the feedback about the RTL515!

How do you get vehicle alerts with that set up, without a Garmin head unit? Do you have to have your phone screen on the whole time? I reckon that would drain the phone for a long ride like that. Hopefully it can alert you with audio beeps etc.

  • The RTL515 has "peloton mode" that reduces the brightness of the steady-on light while you’re in a group.
The head unit does not beep when cars are approaching.

There are so many rich people out there!

  • Just don't see the need for this. I could never trust it 100% and will need to check with my own eyes anyway.

It's probably the best thing I've ever purchased for riding outdoors, I don't think it's missed a single vehicle approaching behind me at all. Absolutely worth the purchase and I recommend it to anyone that'll listen.

    • It is not suitable for riding in the CBD.

I think when you go for long rides in the countryside, it is another instrument to keep you safe.
