Definitely the best pick for a budget build right now!

    • Agreed, i'm currently building a pc for my nephew with this. I would usually go AMD, but good luck finding a budget AMD chip right now. 3100, 3300x and if you do you will pay a premium. I chose a B460 board with decent VRMS, was a tough choice as i could have bought a budget Z490 for the same price (asrock phantom gaming) but it has terrible heatsinks/vrms and reviews. Ram being capped at 2666 is annoying though.

Seems to be the best value CPU going around these days. Main issue is that you will be limited to 2666MHz memory speeds unless you get a Z490 board, which can be expensive.

  • Any decent mobos for under $100?

    • I think 7th means 7th gen, this is a 10th gen so no.

      • awww :(

      • i saw 6th gen mention in description

        • yeh thats why im confused..

          • @Homr: 6th and 7th gen used the same platform

            • @scottySK: thanks

Is it worth getting 7th gen coming from a 4th gen? I heard 8th gen was the one that made break through improvements?

              • @Homr: There's improvement but I personally would jump to a $99 10th gen i3 10100f. That's the real value and much bigger jump in performance

                • @scottySK: the i3 10th gen is better than 4th gen i7?

                  • @Homr: Quite comparable. However, you could upgrade to 11th gen CPUs if you get a 10100. https://youtu.be/ApGq4FkkYLc

                  • @Homr: Significantly, the i3-10100f is comparable to 7th gen i7-7700

                    • @Trance N Dance: oh wow…..

                      • @Homr: Yeah Gamers Nexus did a 10100 v 3300X v 3100 v 7700k review earlier this year
                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tEMDOq-8wA

                        For 4C8T processors it's essentially
3100<10100<7700k<3300X with all 4 being fairly close comparatively

Because of AMD stock limitations and Intel's RAM speed insensitivity the 10100F presents tremendous value for gaming if you need something now.

                  • @Homr: I'd say they're comparable. But with the i3 having an upgrade path and the FAR cheaper cost, it's an easy win for the i3

    • No, you need a LGA 1200 socket for this CPU.

    • Definitely no

Nah, Intel change sockets more often than I change underwear

Cheap, but I'm not very trusting of Aliexpress stuff on a good day

      • Yeah the reviews look alright at first glance but I'm sure I'll be shafted when it comes to warranty

FYI If you add this CPU and something on this page that has "Free shipping" label, you will get free shipping. Work out great if you need to buy a SSD or some RAM for your new build

    Awesome price for Corsair RAM

  • For a budget gaming PC, is there much gain in spending 2x on the i5-10400f if i can get the i3-10100f for $99 ?

I was looking into that CPU aswell, from what I've read you'd get some throttling on 3070/6800 gpus with the i3. So anything under would be OK I guess.

I upgrade computers once every 6 years or so lol. I actually undervolted my 3570k throughout its life to save power ¯_(ツ)_/¯ yet I'm still thinking I should go for the 10400

Depends on what GPU you have and what games you play, for the most part it shouldn't be a huge difference outside a handful of games when paired with a high end GPU.

    • Get the i5 for long term. You would most likely have no issues with CPU bottleneck for at least 4-5 years

  • my GPU is GTX 1060, i think i wont notice the difference TBH

thanks for the input, i think i'll save $100 and choose the i3

    Intel Core i3-10100F 3.6GHz - 4.3GHz 4 Cores 8 Threads for $99 is a bargain.
Makes my eyes water when I compare it to my current A8-5600k :(

I was glad people are overpaying for AMDs now. Makes intel chips much cheaper.

  • Any deals on i7?
