Intel BOXNUC8I7BEH i7-8559U $549 + Delivery @ Shopping Express

120

Even though NUCs are quite expensive for what you get, if you're specifically wanting to buy the older NUC 8th Gen model with quad core i7 with Intel Iris Plus 655 graphics, this seems to be a decent price considering the next cheapest price from a retailer on staticice is $689. It was previously as low as $615.20 on ebay during the Black Friday sales last month.

Note this model is now discontinued as the newer 10th Gen models are out. This is the barebones NUC kit with CPU soldered on, RAM and storage is not included.

Seems pretty pricy, for this price you can get the Asus NUC-like box with ryzen 4000 that runs rings around this.

Yup, this deal lost me at the first word.

    • hey Merlict.
looking for something like this to replace 10 year old PC.
      Which ASUS do you reckon?

  • Good for HTPC?

No. If you want something small get a NVIDIA shield.

Yes. I have both one of these for video editing, rendering, music etc and a Nvidia ShieldTV for general viewing (and yes the Shield TV doesn't perform any editing functions hence the two devices).

As an all in one, this is better. They run very quietly (almost silently) and don't overheat (keep the small vents free of obstructions and a quick vacuum as you are whisking past). Perfect in a Home Theatre (HTPC) config. I even have a USB3.0 Pioneer Blu-ray burner/player attached. As a HTPC, performance as a server for Plex TV is excellent.

I am on my third Intel NUC and all have been excellent and reliable. Please note, these are NEVER intended to be a Games PC so don't bother making that comparison. The built-in Intel graphics perform my video editing tasks quiet effectively and that's it. (maybe low end games too).

This is barely any slower.. and much cheaper at $349 - the i5 version of the same NUC…

Note.. the Iris 655 Plus IGPU is faster than the current 10th Gen Nuc offerrings..

Here is the difference between the I5 and I7

and between the 8th and 10th gen here

Obviously the 10th gen, has a slightly faster IPC and faster wireless, but the iGPU of the 8gen is signficantly faster due to the 128mb of onboard memory..

    • Nice find!

    • I just bought a NUC8I5BEH last week. You're right about the the i7 version not being worth it.

There is also another varient, with a slightly slower CPU but ~30% better graphics performance. Barebones, it isn't worth it, but that linked deal isn't too bad overall. Assuming you can live with 8GB as it's soldered-in (apparently).

Note that the NUC8I5BEH has a soldered-in wireless card and HDMI 2.0a and Thunderbolt 3 DisplayPort 1.2 only video outputs. I had to also buy a USB-C to DP adapter for my monitor.
