  • Do you think this'll ever go much cheaper than this?

Honestly a chance. From everything I've heard, this is a fine game, but the incredibly unreasonable fan backlash it receives for not being a "Thousand Year Door" clone seems to genuinely be hurting its sales. EB are even throwing physical versions in with Switch bundles now. Usually that's reserved for excess stock or shovelware.

"Battles are puzzle games which have no strategy" and "this is not much of an RPG" seem like pretty reasonable grievances.

I auto bought the last one. Won't get involved this time. Seems fairly reasonable?

I liked the game. Battles are more like puzzles than turn based RPG combat which I prefer. Characters, places and writing was entertaining. It’s my first Paper Mario so I can’t compare to older titles in the series.

@FireRunner: If you ever get a chance to play Thousand Year Door you will love it.

            • @Telios: But then I'll never be able to enjoy another Paper Mario game.
But more seriously I've been wanting to play that one, just got a big backlog of games already

I loved the Wii version of the series. Great characters and story with Count Bleck.

I don't think this game was ever marketed as an RPG though. Yes, it's from a series that has a history of using RPG-like elements (experience, leveling up, turn based combat), but has changed and tried to innovate in some way with each subsequent release.

I know it's not an identical situation, but it would be like buying Age of Calamity and being upset it isn't an open world sandbox like Breath of the Wild. It was never meant to be that way.

Be angry and upset as much as you want, but the game still exists and it's fine.

          • @Faro: but they did advertise it as an rpg, which is why the example with zelda is a non-comparison

@Sporange: Can you show me where it was advertised as an RPG? I must have missed it

Not sure what you’re talking about, the game is selling great. It’s also the fastest selling game in the series. The people complaining are only a small vocal minority, I doubt they’ve had any significant effect on its sales.

      • I have started to play this game a few days ago and I enjoy it. The dialogue is funny. The battles might get tedious at times but they are a good way to earn coins in the game. All in all it is quite an entertaining and beautiful game.

    • Well, it was $34.50 at BigW on Boxing Day 2020: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/593948

Dont think this is fair comparison. This Big w price is single store which is closing down and not nationwide.

Oh, you're right, I didn't get past reading the title.

Unlikely as it is published by Nintendo.

    • doubt it

  • Oooh

  • Tempting, too bad black friday/ boxing day sales left me broke already.

  • I thought unidays doesn't stack with Nintendo items?

    • Thanks fixed, copy pasted it without realising

I definitely recommend this game, it's very charming and enjoyable to play.
