impact drivers are for driving in screws. for drilling a hole with an sds bit you need a hammer drill, like this.

        • +1

think of it like this - while the bit spins the hammer drill is actioning back and forth (like a hammer hitting a nail) to chip away tough surfaces. with an impact drill the force is directed rotationally in the direction the drill bit is spinning (like it is wrenching on the screw over and over again) to wind it in nice and tight. pretty much any well charged hammer drill will work (but a corded is best if doing heaps of work to save power drop off)

          • @Wombatstew: Sorry I was confused myself. This is the pack that I bought: https://imgur.com/a/2yhLGhw

I was referring to the Hammer Drill (PXBHS-100) in my post not the impact driver. I just spent 20 min trying to drill another hole to see if it does the job and it failed again. My arm is completely sore. Making me think it could be an issue with the unit.

            • @theUnderdog: that $99 corded one i linked above will work well. non sds hammers drills aren't great.

            • @theUnderdog: wrong type of drill bit for the action of the drill. ssd is for rotary hammer which is an electric chisel with rotation function, impact hammer drill uses what looks like a normal drill bit but has tungsten tips.

        • the ads bit is designed for a rotary hammer drill which has a piston that hits the drill bit, hence the grooves so the drill bounces as the hammer hits. a normal hammer drill looks like what is a normal drill bit but with tungsten tip, it has a sinusoidal action using a cam. the energy transferred to the work piece is very different between a rotary hammer vs impact drill.

  • I just want a battery an charger. Do they ever go on sale?

    • +2

Yeah the 4 Ah is regularly on sale for $40 down from $60ish

      • cheers. Will wait for that!

  • What's the normal price for these drill kits??

    • Doesnt have one, is a promotion to compete with aldi, but its good value

    • -2

      $179

      • +1

that's not for the "compact" drill (it includes a better drill). Ozito have a dizzying array of drills….

  • The compact drill might make for a good cordless screwdriver.

For some reason the link doesn't work and I can't find the deal on their website

The ozito gear is pretty damn good value for money when buying on deals.

Inpressed with the build quality of the items I have

  • +1

Bought is yesterday and compact drill stopped working now, what can I do? I know it has 5-year warranty - do I need to send it back to Ozito or go back to bunnings?

    • +2

go to bunnings they'll swap it

    • Flat battery?

    • +1

      what are the symptoms?

      • It won’t move and work battery was fully charged, went to Bunnings they replaced it no questions asked

  • buying this solely to use some drill brushes :D

  • Hi guys. sorry i got so overwhelmed with the info in the comment sections.

My question is: I just need a simple drill and driver for screws. Wont be using it often at all. just occasionally. will this be a good option to buy? or can i get something better than this for a normal housework (nothing fancy) . I am looking to buy this stuff for the first time.

    • It will be fine for what you want to do

    Hi,

I am looking to buy something for my home. I will use it for 1-3 times a month to do something.

I am not sure what is the difference between these two products?

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-drill-driver-kit_p…

There is an upcoming deal with Aldi, should I look to get that or stick with something from Ozito?

    https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-2-j…

Also, what sort of drill bits I should buy.

Should I get this one from Bosch?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Bosch-V-Line-Titanium-Screwdriver-…

    Thanks in advance

    • I need a drill too, my mates run Ozito and they die quickly and it's relatively crap quality but something new you can get full working units!

Im thinking DeWalt or Bosch. Ryobi is pretty crap too but has gimmicks of the same battery can be used in over 27736483838 appliances, well too bad 99% of them are crap compared to the counterparts.

Bunnings has a Christmas Bosch Hammer drill for $199 with battery, not listed online. Most drills you can turn the hammer function off so no point Going a regular drill.

      • bosch green is crap, the blue tools are good

  • I popped into my local Bunnings this morning (NSW p/c 2527) and bought this kit for $50 off the clearance trolley. It was the last one, so don't know how many there were originally.
    Kit # PXCDIK-250

Maybe other stores doing the same??

  • I own the Ozito 5 piece kit bought it for $299 2.5 years ago and do very light duty house work. Bought it because it had a cordless circular and at the time all the other cordless circular saw were at $299 just for the saw. I can say that if you do plan to use it regularly get a better brand. The battery died on mine last month. The drill burnt out after about 3 uses drilling a hole 20mm in 16mm chipboard within 2 weeks of purchase (lucky bunnings replaced it. The led light fell out of the impact drill from its own vibration. The angle grinder switch keeps disengaging. Circular saw struggles with any sort of resistance, good for thin pieces of pine only. I think the best piece was the LED light bright and hasn't had any issues. Touch wood.

The cordless vacuum, and leaf blower works wells which were purchased separately.

For the record I purchased a Milwaukee 7 piece kit 2 years ago so the Ozito is only a back up with seldomly use however still manages to fall apart.

The Bosch blue looks good only because it has the larger 4AH battery and free left blower. I would recommend these trade brands, bosch blue, dewalt, makita, milwaukee as have a good product range and suppliers. AEG and Ryobi is almost exclusive to bunnings these days.

    • ryobi literally is an exclusive

  • So if I wanted to install some brackets to my apartment windows for new blinds, would I use one of these babies?

    • +1

Yep, we just installed blinds using a standard drill driver.

Just picked this up, it’s a lot lighter than my old ozito hammer drill. Very compact, small enough to stack in a reasonable size tool box.

2.5ah battery is adequate but waiting for the inevitable Aldi “matching” sale on ozito batteries at some stage to pick up a 4 or 5ah battery for a bit more oomph.

If your a non-handy hack like me that needs something for the odd jobs around the house, this is perfect at $99

  • Waiting for Bunnings to price match the Aldi Brushless hammer drill which is on sale from yesterday. Anyone having any luck? I went to Bunnings for a price match and they refused.

  • Back in stock. Is the 10mm chuck an issue? Also I noticed this only has a one speed setting (trigger is variable speed though). Thoughts?
