looks like a pretty good price for the given capacity for a reliable albeit noisy PMR/CMR drive

Personally when I built my PC back in I think in mid 2017 the goal was to just grab a quick external portable shuck it and use it until it dies nearly 3 years of pretty light usage I am only a gamer at this point and some light video capturing it is still going.
That was about 8TB at $30/TB plus another 16TB for a friend.
Nowadays I won't go for anything above $25/TB unless I have deemed it to have some special quality that separates it from the herd.
New target is $20/TB but honestly just get whatever you feel like just make sure the endurance rating and longevity stats are well enough decent so you know it will last you until your next upgrade or maybe even go into your next upgrade.
You do realise you are pretty much the opposite to the target market of a "data centre drive" right?
What is a target market?
I am not a data centre drive.
$33.36/GB? That's $266,880! What a bargain!!
HAHA, sorry /Tb… LOL. BTW I went to the site and found that the 14Tb was on sale again, so grabbed one while I could using a Christmas voucher from work for $438.49. To me this seems to be fairly compelling value, as picking up a drive of this quality and size back in the day would normally cost an arm and a leg, and probably does still at a lot of retailers. Actually just checked it out and Centre Com has it on sale for $749 ATM. A bit cheaper than I was expecting.
Someone get a banking graduate in here stat!
Quite noisy.
Just tell her to shut up.
Not really. I run this along a few wd reds, and it makes less noise than a wd red.
Will it be a good replacement for a dvr/NVR hdd?
Yes and Yesno.
Thanks, just ordered 2.
My NAS is getting full (with 4x 4TB drives.) So this can be upgrade phase 1.
Gotta store those .doc files somehow someway
I saw this last night when I was looking for the 14Tb one that was part of a deal recently for $392.04 but it has gone back up. This one is $33.36/Gb and the 14Tb was only $31.32/ Gb. Usually the smaller drives should be cheaper, so something tells me that there could be room for this to be sold cheaper than at this price, especially with the stronger $A. I think it is on a par though for similar deals seen recently for this size drive. I have seen the 10 and 12Tb drives in the low $300s though. I'm tempted to grab one of these still, but I'd be sad if a better deal came around in 3-4 days…
