* Carl's Jr is not a clone, timeline: 1940 - McDonald's, 1941 - Carl’s Jr. then later, 1953 - Burger King (our HJ’s).
* Carl's Jr burgers are 'chargrilled', unlike HJ's 'flame grilled'.
* The burgers are better at Carl's. Try the Angus burger range and taste for yourself.

      Whopper jr. ?

I prefer posts where you don't comment JV

      • So what's the deal here anyway, some posts he gets upvotes galore, but others it's an automatic negative?

        • Play stupid games get stupid rewards

          • @Fooah: so you are saying his comments are stupid sometimes?

  • +9

    Better and cheaper than Maccas

  • Can anyone tell me do you order and pay using the app or just show them the app at the store? Or other?

    Thanks.

    • -4

Download the app and it will tell you :-)

      • +3

        It didn't tell me!

    • +5

There’s no function to order via App. Install & enter the App then click ‘OFFERS’ tap on the bottom. Right before you place an order in-store, please click ‘REDEEM’ to claim(because after you click it says you claimed) Hope this helps.

      • Thanks for that. That's what I had come to suspect but it just seems like there's a lot of app for not a lot of functionality so I thought I might be missing something.
        Thanks.

        • My pleasure😉

I've never seen a Carl's Jr in Australia. I had no idea we had them here!

Now all they have to do is open up in a different state and call themselves Hardees.

    • +2

Up until recently they were only in airports and rural areas, they seem to be slowly expanding to suburbs now.

      • +6

lol didn't realise the central coast and Newcastle where they built their first two outlets were "rural"

        • +10

I'm in Newcastle, don't make me chase you with my hay pitchfork.

      • Rural? Where?

    • +1

Opened in Melb nearly 2 years ago (Feb 2019), but only 4 locations so far. And Taco Bell opened last year, yet they still only have 2 locations. That's very slow going.

      • Taco Bell opened ages ago, but then shut down.

        • Not in Melbourne - they were never here. Everything takes longer to come to Melbourne for some reason - we didn't get Dominos or O'Porto until the early 2000s, for example.

          • @AussieZed: There's a taco bell about to open in altona, drove past it the other day

            Probably won't try it..

        • +3

Not to be confused with Taco Bill

    • The burgers are better at hungry jacks

    • Grand total of 2 in SA metro that Ive seen, West Lakes and Kilburn.

  • Also free softdrink refills have been taken off most Carls due to covid

    • +3

they will gladly refil if you ask nicley

      • Some restaurants are self service for drinks like Costco.

Imo this franchise is a letdown in Aus from my experiences.

I've had it overseas and it was way better.
Over here I never get a good meal from them, still prefer Hungry Jacks.

    • +4

My local Carls Jr is awesome, actually. Fries always cooked fresh, burgers properly sauced and made, they never miss items like the inferior McDonald's nearby does. Sounds like maybe your experiences have been shaped by poorly run stores. I have been to plenty of mediocre Hungry Jack's stores and some good ones. Fast food in general can be hit and miss. It depends on how well-trained the staff are, how busy the store is, how good the franchisee is.

      • +1

Altona? I can vouch for them too, excellent staff and service attitude also.

      • +3

Possibly, I've tried Docklands like 3 times and their new store that's recently opened, it's always either cold or 3 chips in the carton or just a skimped out on Burger.

Not the experience I had overseas which I was hoping for because it was really good

        • Glendale (Newcastle) has been a let down. The kids haven't been well trained. The central coast store was better.

        • Couldn't agree more - quality at Docklands is very poor. Had Carls Jnr in Singapore (before it shut down over there) and it was way, way better.

To put it in perspective Docklands Carls Jnr was marginally better than Goodies burgers in the CBD (before the place shut down). And Goodies was the worst rated restaurant in Melbourne.

    • I tried one for the first time when they just opened in Williamslanding. The fries were cold and the burger doesnt feel it was new

    • +1

Went to one when it opened, it was amazing. Went a couple years later - it was terrible. Locals told me the same. But they stuck with it because their kids didn't mind and it saved a few dollars.

  • +2

Woohoo just found out they gonna open at Wetherill Park, in 2021! Lunch at Carls Jr, every.single.day!

    • +1

maybe not…everyday, for your health. c:

  • +3

Went to Knox, they can’t honor it because they out of stock in chicken , and because it’s promo they can’t replace it with anything else!

    • Well that is disappointing, you should complain to head office. Surely they could have given you a substitute.

    • +1

Don't let your life be defined by your 'rules' maaaan

  • +5

Ordered drive-thru they weren't familiar with the deal, so I showed them the app, and they prepared my order.

When I arrived home and checked my order it consisted of 2 cheeseburgers, a famous star and some southwestern burger with onion rings and bacon. The cookies were missing.

Not a really fab experience. Don't think I'll be in a rush to visit again.

    • Bad experience for sure, you should complain to head office! And always check your order before you leave the drive thru. Human error can always happen no matter if it’s Maccas, Carl’s or HJ’s.

  • +1

Burgers always seem cold when I order here.

    • +2

      lol this is my experience:

First carls jr burger cold: gave feedback and no contact
Second Burger at different location: Warmer but last third luke warm, received offer for replacement
Replacement: Talked to Manager and asked to have a very hot burger. Burger very tasty, but only slightly warm… lol wanted to return it but didn't want to make a scene.

Go online and there are hundreds of local complaints about the temperature. They seem to not care about changing this. Pretty sure it's under 40 degrees when they serve it.

    • can confirm, first time trying it, burgers are cold, chips barely salted, Hungry Jack is way better

  • +2

I always get this one confused with Lenny's Jr.

  • +3

Probably one of the worst burgers I've had (docklands)

  • +2

Haven't had these yet (heard taste like hungry jacks) but I wish there were other American burger joints here like In and Out, Smash Burger, Five Guys, etc.

    • +1

      Don't forget Big Kahuna Burger.

      • Had to Google that one, then I remembered the scene from the 2019 movie…. and it made me not want to eat.

  • +1

Dang really want to try this but too far away from Sydney city

    • +2

Just go to your local Hungry Jacks/Burger Kings, but instead of eating your food straight away wait an extra 15 minute and you will recreate the same taste, temperature and service experience you get at Carl’s.

      • It's funny because it's true

      • Lmao, that bad huh. Thanks for the warning

  • +1

Had this in Ballarat, pretty uneventful, I never returned

  • +1

I think people want to know the difference between char grilled and flame grilled.

    • i read char grilled as cooking over charcoal (coals) and flame grilled as cooking over gas flames….. never had Carls Jnr but i'd hazard to bet they dont cook over charcoal.

  • They need stores not in the middle of nowhere

  • Is this available nationwide (ie nsw)?
