Free parking available in Melbourne, but if you need to have longer than 2 hours to stay in city.
At least avoid the fine.

Use city of Melbourne free parking voucher and arrive 1hr or 2hrs before parking restrictions end. Save $5.

  Wilson book a bay are also doing $5 all evening parking in the CBD. Used a few times recently.

      I came in a few weeks ago when it was still pretty quiet and gave up after half an hour. Last week the traffic was almost gridlocked even trying to get to my $5 book a bay.
      
      If you've got plenty of time on your hands go for it.
