Best Credit Card in Australia Regarding (Points, Offers, etc) ?

Dear All,

I have been living here in Australia since 2012 and I have never used any credit cards (only debits). I think I already missed heaps of points, offers, etc. Could you please advise what do you think the best credit card to do here? As I am planning to do one as soon as possible

Your answers, thoughts, suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers,
Vicki

    one to consider:

    https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/essential-cr…

    • $0 annual
    • earn points on AMEX rewards program (redeem for shopping vouchers or transfer to airline frequent flyer programs)
    • AMEX cashback offers
    • various insurance and protection for your purchases

For Visa/Mastercard, if you want to earn points, you will need to keep an eye out for the $0 annual fee (usually only first year) + sign up bonus that pops up all the time.

When there are current offers for $500 and $200 signup bonuses, I don't see the value in this right now.

      • why not both? :)

I'd suggest give the Credit Card Guide a look, very comprehensive and updated regularly

It really depends on your needs and what your aim is with the card

  • Stick to one program ie Qantas then only get cards you can get Qantas points.

Get achievable goals. $3k over 3 months and 60k points is better than 120k points over 12 months that forces you to spend every month or one of those 70k now and 30k points on first anniversary when you pay the annual fee.

  • You’ve already missed heaps of points in last 8 years🙁
Anyway good time to start & you’re in the right place. Check OzB financial deals/forums. Get a card that kicks you off with a large dose of points (Qantas, Altitude etc) for minimal initial spend.
Gather points, flick card, wait for next deal , rinse & repeat.
Keep an eye on your credit rating as you go.
Should be easy to churn 2 or 3 cards per year.
I have flown nowhere this year (like most others) but have accumulated >200k QFF points

Here’s a good recent deal, although it’s gift card rather than Frequent Flyers

There is no such thing as the best credit card :)

It all depends on your circumstances. For instance, if you have a high average monthly spending, certain cards will be better for you than others.

Also regarding points - I guess the only question here is if Qantas points are suitable for you or not.

I guess if you clarify those two points, more users will be able to provide recommendations.

Whole post reads you are experiencing FOMO on CC deals. You are doing so well with debit card discipline, why let that change your spending habits? There are deals elsewhere you can get as opposed to churning. Use your cash to get discounted gift cards from cashrewards/shopback or something.

Sounds like you want to enrol into a course or something. But if you insist, try this link

Lousy customer service but free and high points earn plus free $500 Kogan credit

  • Two strategies.
Churn and burn to get sign on points
    Or
High spend to make the annual fee worthwhile
