Please note, we are unable to offer live freight quotes through our online system. We will need to manually quote for each shipment.
TNT has just added an additional $60 fee for residential deliveries and we are checking options with different couriers.

If you have any advice to share for local Australian transport for products weighing over 30kgs please let us know. Thanks.

    • e-go.com.au (Hunter Express online) have the cheapest rates for bulk freight. They are no frills operator. I've been using them for a decade. Sign up to their free Platinum account for extra 30% discount. I'm guessing you could probably ship your units (large cartons) for about $15-25 to eastern capital cities.

      • +1

        thanks for the recommendation.

  • +1

This is pretty cool. I don't need one but I hope someone takes advantage of the offer. :)

  • +7

the RRP of $2695 is defiantly overinflated.
And how does it manage to play also PC, Raspberry Pi, XBOX 360, XBOX One, Playstation 3, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch games? It's based on android.
    A bit misleading.

    • +3

It clearly reads -supports- those systems, as in you can plug them in. If anyone actually thought it had a switch and PS4 included then bruh

      • +6

        Not on the description.
        And more questions.
        Which games are included?
        - Looks like none. seems it is just a android tablet in a case and arcade controls - Not worth the RRP price.
How do you connect it to a PC/console?
        - From the pics it looks like all it does is use the screen as a display. USB ports to connect your controllers. Doesnt mention about using the built in controllers on a PC/console.

        • +1

Supports virtually all late model consoles, just plug in your XBOX One or PlayStation 4

          Again, bruh.

        • +1

i also expect a free iphone whenever i see one in the marketing for those $1 screen protectors

    • +5

The RRP is actually what the product has been selling for for a number of years.

Internally, it has a proprietary I/O board developed in Australia. This board allows consoles, PC, etc to be plugged into the machine. For this current machine, it includes the android motherboard, but if you were to disconnect this and plug in your other gaming device, its as simple as plugging in the HDMI/USB cables.

You can see a demo of what features/tech is available in the below video of a different product (uses the same IO board)

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsCYBESycqo

And, when new consoles are released, as long as the hardware can still support it, Arcooda releases firmware updates for free.

      • -2

That is a different product !!!

        • +1

its exactly the same function. it used exactly the same IO board.

          The differences are;

          • the Game Wizard Xtreme = dual joystick and supports almost all arcade and jamma game boards
          • Touch Wizard = single player control panel, with Touchscreen support (but not space to plug in Jamma game boards)
          • +1

@Highway: Not sure if anyone would want to send 1K on connecting their console to a 19inch screen, yes you do get arcade styled buttons.

The Xtreme with widescreen and extra button seems like a better product to do this on.

          • @Highway: The IO is a legit bit of gear. Not the only one going around, but it seems like a good option - not convinced on the cabinets to be clear, or the price.

    • +5

Very misleading. From the description on the website, they're referring to plugging your console into it, to use as a display and controller.

Not sure why you'd want an Android based arcade emulator. There's much better MAME and Retroarch based solutions.

      • Sorry its not an arcade emulator. Its a touchscreen gaming device.

Please view the explanation video that better explains the product.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDomERG_bb4&t=2s

The machine comes with Android motherboard, but, you can use the cabinet in any way you want to game. So for example, you want to install MAME into this cabinet, no problem, install a Raspberry Pi.

This machine is a touchscreen gaming device allowing you to play games such as Candy Crush, etc…, or, listen to music, or, plug in your console, or……

    • +1

the RRP of $2695 is defiantly overinflated.

It may be "defiantly" priced at $2,695 - ie defying reasonable RRPs; or
It may be "definitely" overinflated at $2,695

      :)

  • +4

It'd be kinda cool for 500, a grand for a small TV and some buttons though, no dice. Figured it was a plug and play thing, but seeing Crazy Taxi on the thumbnail, I stupidly thought it might be preloaded with some stuff.

Would be interested in the specs of the Android side of it though, running RetroArch on here you could make it have just about every arcade game ever, would be pretty dope if you owned a restaurant or something and were putting in some entertainment for the kiddie areas.

    • +1

The Crazy Taxi was purchased from the Google Store, but you can connect a Raspberry Pi easily inside.

When Arcooda released the product few years ago the technology was limited on the Android motherboard, but as systems improve its easy to swap out the motherboards for latest series.

  • Thinking to DIY my Surface pro 7 to this one

    • as a windows gaming cabinet or emulator?

  • +7

hmmmmm this is or a PS5 for the kids????

Sorry it is hardly worth $1k I hate to think how many got fleeced for more than that.

Proprietary board developed in Au, big deal still not worth it. It's not like it's an xbox 1 killa or ever a good game console.

    • +2

As always, it really depends on what you are trying to do with the products and comparing apples vs apples.

The machines we sold to doctors surgeries, pubs, etc.. are still going strong 4+ years since this product was released. That's almost daily use, and the machines are still alive.

Its not just the proprietary board, there is a lot more with the entire project.

      • -1

with covid or the chance on them being stolen not sure if anyone is keen on using these in the public place.

  • +4

Price aside, the use of Sanwa joysticks and steel cabinet are a real plus for the product. Make it much more durable than an old pc housed in an MDF box with chinese joysticks that most DIYers do. I wish you sold the cabinets as a stand-alone, but I'm sure the cost of the unit would be more than most DIYers would pay, but it looks solid for commercial use - especially if there was a coin acceptor.

  • +15

There's a difference between a bargain and false economy. Many of the posts above seem to be supporting the latter.

The build quality of these is industrial strength. The components are genuine arcade ones that are built to last. The after-sales support given is very good. The engineering to provide the brains that will allow you to have any number of source devices connect into the screen, audio and inputs is not simple, and if you've worked on arcade cabinets, you know that it can turn into an expensive and complicated procedure, especially around compatibility. Being able to connect a Taito Type X2, PS3, PS4, Switch, 500 in 1 arcade board, etc into a setup like this to have the screen, sticks and buttons just with very little pain is great. Highway has been around for a long time and have a good reputation amongst arcade owners for a reason.

Are there cheaper ways to play games? Yes. You could buy a Raspberry PI and configure everything. Or a MiSTer FPGA setup. They're both much cheaper if your time is worth nothing.

In short, don't buy it if it's not worth your money, but don't discount the quality, support and simplicity that these offer to people who might be happy to pay for it.

(No relation to HWE other than as a happy customer who needed and received great support in the past.)

TL;DR pointing at an expensive car|hifi|computer and talking about how you can find something cheaper at your local discount shop/dealer isn't always valid, even if sometimes it seems so.

    • +3

Amen. Someone in the thread who actually gets it.

    • +1

No relation to HWE other than as a happy customer who needed and received great support in the past.

No relation to HWE other than as somebody who fell for these ludicrous prices and now cognitive dissonance is cushioning the realisation you've been ripped off.

Dual arcade quality Sanwa sticks - $67. 16 arcade quality Sanwa buttons - $48. Hell, let's go all in and grab a pack with an I-Pac and wiring as well. Now we're up for $150. Must be one hell of a touch screen.

I can see how maybe, if you had a lot of money and absolutely no time, you could see $995 as a good deal. But considering you can pick up a fully configured top of the line upright MAME cabinet for under $2k, how was this benchtop bring-your-own games setup ever worth $2.7k?

      • +1

We are very interested to see the top of the line MAME cabinet for under $2k.

Just for a reference point, the Arcooda machines are the #1 cabinet sold into Australian marketplace for the home market. Its where people are coming to copy the ideas and machines.

If you are interested in the China imported machines with used components, a keyboard emulator PCB and open frame power supplies without earthing….then I am sure you should be able to buy these for the lower prices.

        • Tencent who you mentioned make your Touch Wizard machine are actually a Chinese company.
I think the $995 is an OK price but my main criticism was that some people may read the title thinking it can play all those PC/console games when all it is is a screen and controller for those PC/console games. Also the android games are only games from the play store and not the full vintage versions and the so called free versions would be plagued with app adds.

          • @MojoMiwo: Sorry no, Arcooda makes Touch Wizard, and its designed in Newcastle Australia. Tencent showed interest in our projects.

When we wrote the description, we mentioned that the machine supports many functions. Its what you do with the arcade desktop cabinet next. Some people will install a Raspberry Pi with MAME games, others may choose to leave it as a default cabinet and just use for their Google account (whatever is in your google paid account, you can use on this machine).

            • @Highway: So it shouldn't be marketed as a desktop arcade machine but an arcade screen and arcade game controller. The Android version looks rubbish and is limited and to use PC/MAME/console games you need to supply your own PC/MAME/console.

              • @MojoMiwo: youre like whinging that PC gamers are getting fleeced with $3000 gaming PCs when your $700 console plays the same games

just because you dont value it doesnt mean its invalid

                • @furythree: Im sure my $700 console can't do photoshop. PCs aren't just for games.
My point was that if you spent say $3000 on a PC and found in the fancy LED water cooled case was just a raspberry pie as the motherboard.
Sure you could start up VNC and remote to another games PC. It did say you could play PC games but it didn't say it needed a PC to playing games remotely.

      • +1

Yeah "top of the line MAME cabinet" screams gumtree shitshow to me. I'm not sure that there is anyone reputable selling mame cabs anyway.

      • +1

I was not a customer for this specific product (I bought the Game Wizard Xtreme), and personally, if I had $2700 to spend on something, I'd save a little longer and get something higher in the range. But I'm talking about the this one that's on sale atm for $995. And what suits me doesn't suit everyone. (Conversely, I'd never buy an Arcade1up, but they have a market for a reason - because people have false economy, or are less fussy than I am).

For the sale price of $995, to have had someone else do almost of the dirty/time consuming work for you, provide a solution that is very flexible on what can plug into it, and has good after sales support, it's not as unreasonable as some people might be suggesting.

If you're someone who has plenty of spare time, and have the expertise to do the software setup and the wiring, etc then sure you can save a lot of money.

For everyone else, $995 seems like a good deal to me given the advantages it brings.

      • The first 19 inch touchscreen I can find on eBay is $312, and it's 16:9 widescreen not the 4:3 old school games run at.

Have a look, it doesn't take long before you hit a grand for the screen alone.

  • +3

I can understand how this new reduced price is a good deal for the quality, craftsmanship, and features that the arcade system provides. However, I'm not too sure about the long term experience of running an already 4+ years old Android OS which I'm guessing can't be upgraded

    • 19" screen makes it seem very over priced for today's market.

From what I have read about highway, its customer service is bad, very bad - Thunderbird's debacle that Highway made worse by selling the pre-order machines they new should be going to the pre-order customers (or they got scammed as well)

      • +1

Yeah, maybe there are potential issues with the screen as well as it states it is only "HD" and not "Full HD" so it could just be 900p or even a 720p screen. Having said that, it is a touch screen and those can be pretty expensive for a 19" size

      • +4

From what I have experienced as an owner of a Highway system, their customer service and after-sales support is superb.

        • Maybe Highway just got scammed by HomePin in that case. Either way it was a terrible business decision and they are still promoting and flying the HomePin flag so they must not think so and would be a good reason to avoid a company like this.

          • +5

            @[Deactivated]: Hi Colver,

Just a quick background to this.

            Highway entered a worldwide distribution agreement with Homepin, this included Australia. Unknown at the time, Homepin had prior sales to home customers in this local marketplace. Its a very long and tedious story, but the balance information is;

            • Highway funded (at our cost) for all older Homepin direct customers to get their machines built (before we got our last productions)
            • Highway helped local customers import the machines into Australia and with after service help
            • Highway helped sell Homepin customer direct machines, at your full buy price (we paid you exactly what you paid Homepin)

We were NOT involved in any old deals customers had with Homepin, and worked tirelessly to get everything solved as quickly as possible.

So to say to people to avoid us is a bit rich.

  • Nooo wayyy!

  • I know we all hate Jaycar around here, but just saying if you are going to have to plug a Raspberry Pi into this anyway then why not https://www.jaycar.com.au/10-inch-screen-raspberry-pi-retro-…

    • Jaycar one is a lot smaller and is an inferior buiild quality.

    Maybe we should have started with this post first, but for those who really do not understand what we are doing, why we are doing it, our gaming vision, and why we have invested millions of dollars into R&D development, please check the below image;

    Its our Touch Wizard machine at Tencent, the #1 gaming company in the world;

If all goes smoothly, get ready to see new line of machines for 2021.
