Ubiquiti Amplifi HD Mesh Point Makes The Speed Slower than before

Recently purchased a Ubiquiti Amplifi HD Mesh Point

The Ubiquiti Amplifi router is upstairs. I get a solid 50/20 speeds upstairs.

In areas downstairs its around 20/10.

I added this mesh point and its showing as a good signal (around where it should be)

However, now the speeds have dropped to 5/1 unless I am within 3 meters of this mesh point.

I am certain this is user error on my behalf, but I seemed to have followed instructions well.

What am I doing wrong?

    Do you have the mesh point installed behind something that's metal, TV or cement walls?

    Have you installed Amplifi firmware version 3.4.3?

    Are you speedtesting in the Amplifi app or somewhere else?

    Is band steering and router steering turned on or off?

    Is the mesh point backbone band set to 5GHz or 2.4GHz?

      The mesh point is installed in a pretty central un-obstructed area.

      Yes, updated the new software

      Currently the router has band steering turned on and router steering turned off.

      Mesh is set to 5ghz.

      If I stand within 5 meters I still get terrible speeds.

        Noted. Are you speedtesting in the Amplifi app or somewhere else?

        Have you tested at a different power point?

          I’m using speed test app (ookla) and also google.

          I tried another area, which is more open.

          No improvement

          I can now consistently get around 1 down and .15 up

    I have now moved it to a third location. This one is between all lights on and one less on

    Tried 2.4ghz, it went from 1 down to 2 down.

    Then tried to change to 5ghz and it shat itself and turned off

    Once it finally reconnected, I tried again to change to 5ghz and it disconnected again.

    Rinse and repeat 5 times

    What a waste of $230

      Perhaps a faulty mesh point. My mesh point does 100Mbps no problem.
