[Seconds] Sony WH-1000XM4 Noise Cancelling Headphones $309 Delivered @ Sony AU eBay

1750

Crazy how the price of these dropped so much within a few months. This seems like a good price, with full Sony warranty. Even though its "seconds" aka seller refurbished, they wouldn't have been used for long, maybe max 4 months, since release was in August. Earpads most likely replaced with brand new.

  • $259 with an eBay plus $50 off voucher, do I pull the trigger? hmm..

    • +14

      you know you want to

    • definitely a good price. if you're lucky and get a brand new set, then thats an insane deal

      • -7

The insane deal is Airpod pro max.

    • Ofcourse you do. I got xm3 for 270 a few months ago. Was a steal at the time

    • What voucher? Can you explain in detail or send the link?
      Thanks in advance

    • What ebay plus voucher? I also have ebay plus TIA

    • +4

If the $50 voucher was your sign up bonus, thinking of it as $259 for the headphones means you paid $49 for eBay Plus.

I would rather think of it as $308 for the headphones and free eBay Plus for a year, eBay Plus is worthless and they know it, hence keep offering signup bonuses.

  • +2

Would have pulled the trigger on these if I had not purchased the M3 vs last week for $219

      • +12

This was not a good joke but not a downvoted to oblivion joke lol

        • +6

          Lol that totally failed haha

          • +3

            @montorola: I thought that’s a good joke too.
Shouldn’t be downvoted for a good joke.
            Not fair. Lol. Thanks mate.

    • Buy this
      Sell xm3

      • Reason?

        • +1

the multi device pairing, automatic play/pause, noticeably smoother controls, better mic quality and arguably better comfort (larger earcups), is worth it.

          • +1

@skido: too incremental, IMO best wait for the 5's

            • +2

@Zilch: I’m still rocking my XM2’s, and while I would love to upgrade, they’re good enough for me that I can’t justify outlaying another 300 dollars on a new set of cans. Do yourselves a favour though, spend the 80 bucks it costs to get a set of Dekoni replacement earpads when the stock ones inevitably succumb to cracking and ugh, the smell. I bought a velour set a few months ago and they were a massive improvement in all areas, much more comfortable, they don’t get slick with sweat if you’re working out, and they increase passive attenuation but what they claim is about 12dB, I can’t vouch for that, but they definitely block out more of the high-end noise that the ANC doesn’t handle.

          • +1

@skido: I got an XM4… And didn't even know that many things were upgraded lol haha

  • These were $339 at the time of the M3 deal last week.

  • +6

Seems like a good deal. Heaps of people seem to be comparing XM4 to the new AirPods Max.

Even if the AirPods turn out to have great sound, $899 definitely stings.

    • That is like buying a Ferrari of headphones where an ordinary person would never need it. It will be just pure luxury to show off.

      • +8

Like being superman and still wearing the undies on the outside.

  • $279 with the $30 voucher. What’s the likelihood of getting brand new on this?

    • What’s the likelihood of getting brand new on this?

not sure but seems like some people have gotten new xm3 units (other than sticker on packaging) from refurb deal

Nobody is certain what seconds really means tho. There's a high chance they're just box damaged imo.

        • +3

Nope, pretty clear. They are all open boxes at the least. So they definitely aren’t new. Usually returned due to fault and ‘fixed’.

I received a unit that was still faulty. A slight hiss on the left ear cup when the ANC was on. I know it was an issue because I ordered 2 and one of them was fine.

Took me 2 months and many angry e-mails and phone calls to replace the faulty unit.

          • @Larsson: Well not pretty clear because mine was unopened…with some scuff marks on the plastic and the box a little dented in two spots.

          • @Larsson: Same happened for me, finally got my new pair today, box is a little scuffed though, unit is working fine so far. For those who've tried both, the anc on the xm4 seems way better right?

            • +1

@Aileri: I could barely tell the difference between the 3s and 4s the honestly and I own the 4s.

  • +10

Considering that it is a new model, It can be a good choice. But the XM3 which I bought 2 months ago from Sony seconds was terrible. The ear pads are very bad and worn out! Can’t do anything as what would one expect as a seconds? So I had to suck it up! So please be aware that it’s a hit and miss with older models

    • -1

Just wipe off the earwax and you should be good to go :P

      • I'd expect them to be clean at least, as based on eBay's seller refurb blurb

Seller refurbished: The item that has been restored to working order by the manufacturer, eBay seller or a third party. This means the item has been inspected, cleaned, and repaired to full working order and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in original packaging. See seller's listing for full details.

        • Going by last poster, worn out ear pads doesn't sound like excellent condition to me. That being said I've read others here stating the seconds were nothing more than box damage. It would appear condition can vary.

    • +1

Mine were as new. Worn out ear pads is certainly not in excellent condition.

  • Has anyone connected these to a TV before. Just wondering if there will be any audio delay for movies?

    • Yes there is. It's annoying.

Need headphones with a low latency codec if you wanna watch movies or game.

      • It’s usually the tv that’s the problem.

    • +1

I watch film TV all the time no percievable delay.

      • Me also

    • I use my X3's connected to my Apple TV and don't notice any delay. In fact i love using them in that way.

    • These are low latency and are actually very good, especially for the price.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Over-Ear-Bluetooth-Wireless-Headph…

    • +1

Some TVs have a control on Bluetooth where you can set the audio delay. I set it to -150ms for the XM3's and everything looks OK.

  • +1

Up up up voted! omg. I was gonna pay $219 for the XM3 refurbished but this is better! The reviews for the XM4 is overwhelmingly great, the only downside is the identical design to the XM3.

    • +1

It's a really comfy design imo, not really a downside :P
      Maybe just a neutral thing

      • Wants everyone to know he spent more :p

  • Pretty good price. I want a pair, just don't need them. 🤣

    • Welcome to Ozbargain brother!

  • +1

Given it is only a couple of months released to the market, I wonder if 'refurbished' would indicate they have some factory defect issues?

    • +2

full sony warranty lets you navigate past any issues

    • +1

All their refurbished items come with a standard 12m warranty. I bought the refurbished M3s last year and they are perfect, no issues to date.

      • 12 month sounds fine but with tech it can be very short warranty for defects

    • Cool, thanks guys. Good to know.

    • Most likely it’s the plastic clasps that fall off. These are way too expensive to be using plastic, Sony don’t cover it most the time even under warranty. Be warned dealing with Sony is a nightmare. Just sharing my experience.

  • I'm waiting for boxing day sales. Hoping for sub 300$ to jump on!

    • +1

Why not wait for next Xmas after the XM5 comes out? The price drop has been so dramatic for this model and TRS is no longer an option so why bother waiting to save an extra $10.

  • Is the $349 at Kogan new?

They'd be even cheaper if you grabbed eBay gift cards with the Zip 10% off

  • -7

Na, saving up for the Airpods Max.

  • +8

I mean, why wouldn't you just pay the extra $40 and get a brand new pair? Who knows what jizz and other crap has been left in 2nd hand refurbished headphones.

    • If it is like the XM3s, they look and smell brand new.

      • +9

what about the jizz though? noticeable or minor?

    • +5

      $40 = 20 maccas hamburgers

    • +1

I'm not sure why you'd be getting jizz on headphones. Maybe I'm just too vanilla.

    • +1

Can confirm. I buy XM4s to ejaculate in the ear piece and then return them to spite OBZers

  • Get the AirPods Max /s

    • +7

when headphones cost more than a ps5. XM4 or a Bose 700 both at $350 mark is plenty good for the general market.

      • good thinking

      • +2

My saxaphone cost more than my best friend's first car. He couldn't fathom it either.

    • $899

    • XM4s most likely are better than The Airpods anyway.

  • -2

Sif you’d ever buy a pair of sloppy second headphones… it’s a slippery slope.

  • +2

Price on these headphone are coming down like samsung phone prices.

  • -3

These cheap headphones prices coming down faster than a heroin addict on a Sunday morning because AirPods is coming. Gotta maximise them sales.

    • +4

People who know they want to buy the AirPods Max definitely know they don't want the XM4 lol very different price segment; specifically for the more money than sense type

  • We’re these not $299 brand new on eBay plus last week?

    • Yes they were. I got me a pair.

  • This was just released recently, how come they already have refurbished ones already lol

    • could be damaged box, warranty returns, faulty units from factory etc, but have been fixed up to look, feel and function as new

      • Or brand new and Sony don’t want to upset retailers

        • maybe, but I'm pretty sure 309 brand new is below cost price

          • @skido: Yea, I got my XM3 for around $300 more than a year ago. Seems to be the equilibrium price for these headphones from Sony.

  • Hmm, seconds makes me think, small defect like scratch or small repair needed.

I.e you are still the first owner

Would pull the trigger if this is the case.

  • +1

random question but is anyone here/on ozbargain because YouTube crashed?

    • +1

haha, no. Youtube still works if you sign out, its only down when signed in.

      • oh lmao, thanks for heads up

    • haha yes, I'm wfh and gmail is down so lol

  • +1

Why so many seconds one available already? Quality issues?

    • +4

Rather this than having them go to landfills.

      https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/marketplace-amazon-returns-1.…

      • +2

You should start a thread so more people is aware of this

      • During that meeting, a representative revealed they get "tons and tons of Amazon returns," and that every week their facility breaks apart and shreds at least one tractor-trailer load of Amazon returns, sometimes even up to three to five truckloads.
"We're not the only ones. We couldn't handle all of Amazon. There's no way. It is so — it's like cockroaches, it multiplies. It's incredible," said the operations manager.

A bit dramatic but I dig his energy

        • +1

I wonder how much of this stuff goes home with the employees?

  • +2

Ons of them is definitely mine that has been returned due to battery issue. The battery was tested to only have 16 hour capacity fully charged. :(
They quoted 4 weeks for the battery replacement as the replacement battery can’t be shipped by air..

  • These seconds are actually better than the First, because they have been tested properly.

    • You sound like a used-headphone salesman.

      • Off to buy a Sorny!

        • Is Sony guts man! "Quote from Zohan"
