Xiaomi 34" Black Screen and "No Signal" Issue

Hi guys, I recently bought the 34" Xiaomi monitor during that Black Friday sale. Since receiving the monitor, I have been noticing occasionally black screens (unpredictable) and following it a slick tick of a sound coming from my HDMI to USB-C cable.

So here's what I have going on:

MacBook Pro 16" —> USB-C to HDMI —> Monitor

Another issue that is also common is that sometimes when I start the laptop from sleep whilst connect to monitor, the monitor doesn't detect the signal. Instead it shows "no signal" and goes into energy saving mode. I usually have to turn off the monitor, lift open my MacBook Pro lid and close, then turn on the monitor for it to work again.

Anyone having any fix for these issues?

Cheers!

Guessing you're using a cheap cable. Replace it with a decent one and try again.

    • What do you consider as cheap? Cz I got my cable from JB-Hifi at $54 (ALOGIC Ultra USB-C to HDMI Cable (2m)) :P

Yep that's a cheap low quality cable with rip-off brick & mortar store markup on it. Try another branded one to isolate if that's the issue else might be monitor/Macbook itself. UGREEN if you want a cheaper but solid option. Belkin if you want more premium. Both should work fine. Amazon it and return if needed.

        • Oh wow, I honestly though $54 is considered expensive for a cable…..

I'm likely going to get an USB-C to HDMI adaptor and get a proper HDMI cable to see if it works. Do you think it matters if I use Displayport vs HDMI?

@Rodz: It is but many cables are cheap with huge markups. Think you're buying a quality cable but it's just a big fat margin you're paying for. Often you can buy the same cable for 1/4 of the price online.

@Rodz: Yes, if you can use Displayport over HDMI, do so.

            • @skid: Any recommendations in terms of Displayport and HDMI's?

  • Tried another USB-C to HDMI? Or another monitor on the same adapter?

Unfortunately don't have any other monitor lying around to be tested, but I'll give the TV a try I guess.

I have the same issue with my pc using the DP to DP cable included with the monitor, not sure how to fix it either.
Oddly enough, I don't have a problem using it with my work laptop on a HDMI to HDMI cable.
It could be the cable like everybody says.

    • Exact same scenario as you (minus the work laptop). Only seems to happens once or twice a month though, a quick on and off of the monitor fixes it for me - bit annoying though

After two weeks of using the monitor with my MBP M1 the monitor suddenly won't turn on. I can detect the mointor in the display setting-> arrangements but it always shows "no signal" then goes into power-saving mode. After a bit of fiddling I changed the refresh rate from 144hz to 120hz and it started working. I switched it back to 144hz and the screen went black again. After a few test back and forth I realised my monitor no longer works at 144hz with my MBP M1.

If you are having the same issue try to lower the refresh rate.

FYI im connecting to my monitor using a Lenova Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock. MBP1 (TB3) <-> Dock (TB3) & Dock (DP) <-> Monitor (DP)

    Hope this helps.

  • Are you guys still experiencing this issue? Did you guys resolve the issue?
Discovered this through a Google search, as I'm having this issue with my new Xiaomi monitor and Intel Mac mini (only HDMI and USB-C display choices)

  • same here
