Recommendation on 65” TV around $2.5k for Boxing Day

Trying to do my research before Boxing Day sales (last time I purchased I had to go off how upvoted a tv deal was and just rush out and buy it).

I’m looking currently at the Sony X9500H 65”
It’s around the $2.5k price point but I’m hoping there will be some sort of Boxing Day madness to bring it down.

Are there other options I should be considering for 65” around this price point?

Mostly I do streaming (HDR content) and movies. I may eventually get a PS5 but I don’t think it’s worth dropping to the X9000 just for the HDMI2.1 bits. TV will be in a fairly open and bright room - there’s large windows on the left and back of the room.

I’ve got streaming devices and sound sorted out already so it’s really just picture quality and viewing I’m after.

Thanks for helping!

  • I know it's above budget but the LG OLED CX can be had around 3400 and is as good as it gets especially for gaming

    • I’ll certainly consider it if sales manage to bring it right down.
Might be some scope to push the budget but probably better to go lower towards $2k if possible.

  • Highly doubt Sony is going to have a Boxing Day sale on their TVs. LG has already advised retailers that there won’t be any significant sales on their TVs either. If there is, it’ll probably just be on their low end LED range. Both Sony and LG are struggling to get stock into the country.

Samsung Q80 (full array) and the Q70 (edge lit) would be your best bets for a deal and the Samsung QLEDs are much better for bright rooms anyway.

  • I would go into the Good Guys and get them to match the commercial price of $2415. Depending on the sales person, they could go lower, as I got 10% off the commercial price. I have the 75” model and it’s a great tv, although it is still a bit reflective even with the anti reflective layer.
