  • Wow even cheaper than the previous deal.

Does anyone know how to connect this to an iPad and are there any good interactive games or learning apps?

    • You need the Apple lighting to USB adapter (the one with lighting in too so you can charge at same time)
Plus a standard USB A cable (maybe comes with keyboard)

We’ve been using simply piano app. Happy enough with it that I paid for the full version.

      • oh so i can't use the USB-A to lightning cable that came with the ipad?

thanks for suggesting simply piano. looks good! do i need to connect via cable to be able to use the app?

        • +2

          No.

Sorry. I should have said USB A to B (Eg. printer usb).

If the keyboard has usb A it’ll be for a flash drive. Usb B is for the ‘midi’ connection that the apps use to detect keystrokes. You don’t need the wired connection for simply piano if the iPad mic can hear the keyboard, But it’s better with it.

I think you can buy lighting to usb-b cables, but it won’t charge ipad. That simply piano app sucks the juice on mine, and prevent ipad standby even when not playing.

  • "This item is out of stock and will be ordered from supplier on purchase. We'll contact you when it becomes available.
    Scheduled Delivery
We'll contact you within 48 hours to schedule a suitable delivery day." While checking out the order, above popped up.

Not sure when it will be delivered.

    • +1

Did you receive this after placing the order?
On my order confirmation it states "Arrives on or before 15 Dec 2020"

      I am in QLD

      • Wasnt so sure whether it would be delivered before Xmas, hence called up my local store and they had 1-2 coming in a week's time, went in store with the GCs and ordered it. Still not 100% if online purchase would have been quicker, will find soon. NSW.

    • Mine is
"This email is to inform you that your ordered item is currently out of stock at our Distribution Centre.
We can confirm the estimated time of arrival at the warehouse for this item is 24/12/2020* (*subject to change) and we will be in touch once the item is in stock to arrange a delivery time."

Doh! Just bought this yesterday and now a price drop! Anyone know if JB will refund the differences? Probably not..

    • How much you pay for it?
      Is this a good price?

      • Pay using gift cards(10% off) and using the voucher for $250. So total was $1098 after discount voucher. But kicking myself now as I was about to come in today to get it!

        • how'd you get 10% off?

          • @dajackal: Buy them from people. A lot of people want to exchange their gift card for cash instead of buying items, in turn you get usually a 7.5-10% discount.

    • I’d give it a crack as I know TGG have done this for me in the past.

Alternatively, if your credit card has price protection it might be worth giving that a shot too.

    • I would think that they would especially considering they have price match and you are within the return date - ask and you shall (most likely) receive

    • +1

You can call them and get 150$ back.

    • I bought my Note 9 from JB ages ago and a weeknlater it was $150 on special. Went back and asked the manager if they will pay back the diff. And he said yes. Maybe phone and find out. If not tell them you want to return it and order it online :)

      • Thanks, I'll try but paid using gift cards, wonder if they pay back with gift card?

        • I'll find out later today, I'm on the same boat bought on Wed and just saw they've dropped $150!

          • @Craze: This is from JB website, so I think we should be ok.

            https://support.jbhifi.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/360053852613…

What if the price drops on an item I have ordered?
You will always pay the lowest price.

            • @derweep: Awesome, but I'd much rather get cash back rather than gift card (I paid mainly through gift card and a small amount on credit card) but will see!

              • @Craze: Cool, let me know if you can if they give it back on gift card or refund. Won't be able to go until later, WA time. Thanks

                • @derweep: Received the difference back in gift card. Picked up yesterday and came in one big box, can't wait to get it assembled!

                  • @Craze: Cheers Craze, yeah had the email from the manager to come down and get it sorted. Did you also get the bench as well as per some of the buyer below that got lucky.

                    • @derweep: Nope no luck with scoring the bench :( I didn't think JB sold piano benches either. How about you?

                      • +1

@Craze: Got the piano delivered yesterday, and yeah no bench :( Have no idea how he got a bench though. I got lucky when I went back to JB, instead of getting the price difference in gitft cards, it was refunded to my CC so I'm happy.

              • @Craze: Agree, I won't buy the gift cards in first place, if it wasnt for that particular product and the price, believe they should return in cash/credit card refund.

        • I just rang and spoke to the online team. They said that I would be entitled to their lowest price guarantee and to submit a form through their contact us page.

Also, I paid with gift cards rather than through my CC as I didn't expect the price to drop further than it did. Can't claim price protection in this instance :(

          • @gambino: any chance you know what form it is?

            • @ST: I used this and selected product & price enquiries and included a reference to my order number, including a screenshot of the current pricing.

Unfortunately it is a 4 day turnaround for a reply.

              • @gambino: Cheers! yes, for the sake of $150 I suppose it's worth it!

  • How much does a real average piano cost (not grand piano)?
Is there a difference in tone or learning from a students perspective?

    • +7

Unfortunately this is one of those how long is a piece of string questions.

You could go on Gumtree/Facebook and get one for free if desired as families try to get rid of the pianos the kids learned on when they move out, but who knows the quality.

As long as the keys are weighted correctly the feel is quite similar. A decent new upright (eg Kawai etc) would start from about $5k.

I personally prefer the sound of an acoustic piano, much fuller sound BUT and it is a big but, they are obviously a pain to move around, I recently paid $400 to have it moved up a flight of stairs when I moved house. Just the other day, I had to get a hammer fixed as the shank snapped - another $200. So I do understand why most go the electric piano route. That being said, the sound of a decent acoustic piano will almost always be better than an electric's little speakers (in my humble opinion).

Whether the cost and lack of convenience is worth it is purely subjective.

With an electric, you can always plug in headphones and practice in the middle of the night. Hard to do with an acoustic. I'd say get an electric for practice, then once you're good enough, get a grand and put it an open living space for performing.

If you're interested in recording, I've always found it much easier with an electric. You can easily get pretty good quality recordings with just a basic audio interface.

        • +1

Thanks that is a good point regarding the headphones.

      • We recently gave away our piano. The shipping/logistics costs would've easily been a few hundred if you don't have a suitable ute/truck and mates to help physically move it, then you probably will need to spend at least another chunk of change to get it retuned (chances are it hasn't been played in a while).

But yeah, nothing beats a real (well tuned) piano. Sure it's not as convenient, but real pianos have an 'impact' which these electronic ones don't.

      • +1

You can also plug an electric piano into an amp to get a bigger sound if the inbuilt speakers aren't enough.

    • If you mean an upright, they can range from a couple of $1000, right up to $20,000. But normally you can get decent second hand ones for pretty cheap. You just want to make sure they've been tuned regularly, otherwise it's gonna cost you a ton to get it retuned.

While there is a slight difference tonally (depending on the upright), Casio keyboards such as these are still great for learning.

    • We bought a Roland F140 recently and its great. Taking into account the size, the sounds really nice. They have their own unique design for the hammer action as it is with most other digital piano brands so I'd recommend just going into a store and try them out (we went to piano warehouse).

  • Ahh…same here..I purchased one yesterday but havent picked up yet. Does anybody know if JB can cancel the purchase? I can then purchase at discounted rate.

    • Edit- I called the store and was able to get difference of $150 as JB gift card.

  • +3

Looks like they had similar deal even last year

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/503135

  • +6

This price is good, however if you are looking for entry level models I would suggest Kawai KDP110 and Roland RP102, both of them are much better than this Casio model.

For piano learning apps I would suggest simply piano (84 aud a year when there is a sale, you can further lower down the cost by paying with 15%-20% off iTunes card) and flow keys, the latter has a lifetime subscription for 260 usd when there is a sale(320 normally)

    • +1

Are they around this price point though?

Genuinely asking. I'm out of the loop for keyboards.

      • +1

Yeah. I was going to say this.. comment caught my eye as the other two models mentioned seem to be $1500+

So the question becomes whether they’re 50% better for an entry level piano.

    • Thanks for suggesting the learning apps!

Is this Casio not worth the price?

      • +2

IMO It is. This could last you quite some time in your learning journey
This was my first digital piano, kept it for 4 years before moving on

    • To answer the comments above, Casio has the worst key action among the entry models, I would suggest you try these models in a store before pulling the trigger. JB has ap260 for 788 previously and it has exactly the same key action with this px770 model, that one is a better deal than this if still exists.

Roland and Kawai are both instruments manufacturer and instruments manufacturer only, Casio is not.

      • I think JB hifi replaced stocking PX770 with the AP260. My circle of friends don't recommend Casio either, but for the price difference I'm willing to take a chance as I'm planning to play leisurely…

      • you seem to know your stuff - what would you recommend for a 9 year old? hes pretty good at piano and all so I want to upgrade him to something like this from his current crappy keyboard?
I think Ipad connectivity would be nice

        • +1

If you don’t mind spending 4K on a DP then you can search Kawai ca79, if your budget is around 1k then maybe Kawai es110 or Roland fp30, es120 is coming soon btw.

      • Roland and Kawai are both instruments manufacturer and instruments manufacturer only, Casio is not.

Hmm, Roland DG doesnt make instruments!

    • What makes the Kawai KDP110 and Roland RP102 better than this one?

As for the AP-260, I think you are referring to: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/392832
The rrp of this is much lower than the PX770. Would the PX770 be worth the extra $150?

      • They have much better key actions

        • Sorry, I don't play the piano, what does better "key actions" mean?

          • @congo: Meaning it is closer to acoustic piano key actions.

    • Hi mate,

You seem to be knowledgeable about piano.
What do you think about Kawai ES110, Roland F30, Yamaha P125, the models you mentioned and this Casio? How do they differ and most suitable for a kid who just starting to learn?

      • Kawai kdp 110, you can bargain down 10% of the asked price.

If this is above your budget, I will say pick any one of them you like, the thing is this is choosing an instrument and you must visit a store to try before you place an order.

Personally I will choose one between Roland and Kawai.

        • Before all this, i was considering kawai es110 as rrp 999 and on special for 800.
Whats the difference between es110 and kdp110? Seems a quite price difference.Sorry i know nothing much about piano..

Interesting you didnt mention yamaha at all. P125 seems to have a more grand sound from some youtube reviews vs kawai es110, but I was thinking es110 more because cheaper when its on sale..

          • +1

@OzFrugie: KDP 110 has more powerful speakers, Kawai’s signature sound SK-EX and a better key action RHC II.

Es110’s key action is on par with the ones used on Yamaha’s more expensive YDP range.

Please do the rest of your homework yourself.

      • +1

Kawai's "key actions" are more like a real piano than Casio at a similar price. The better key actions, they easier you can play a real piano in the future.

And it's even better than Yamaha in the same price range - Yamaha is very tight a** to apply key actions technology into lower price E Pianos. And for some reason, in Australia, Yamaha's prices tend to be higher. Of course, if you buy the top range of Yamaha's e pianos, they are as good as Kawai's.

I'm thinking about Kawai KDP110 but its price will never go down too much, always around $15xx :/

if they lower down the KDP110 price, i.e. $400 off like this deal, I will buy one straight away!

  • Hmm. You can get a Roland or Kawai for this price.

Casio has improved a lot from the 1980s but still leans toward the toy market than a professional instrument.

  • Wow I wish I could buy this.

  • Anyone in Perth who bought this and doesn't want the packaging?

  • noooooooooo………………..
    i missed this

Check out this guy "ThePianoforever" on Youtube. He reviews almost all decent digital and analog pianos. You will probably go down a youtube binge hole and watch every video like i did. Anyway the piano action is probably one of the most important components in digital pianos if you want to have a proper go. And like with all music instruments, buy the most expensive range you can afford. Roland, Kawai, Yamaha have amazing instruments with sounds sampled from the worlds best painos.

    • Thanks for the tip, will check him out on YT!

  • Hi there,

Will this coupon work tomorrow? Cheers.

  • I picked one up yesterday. Paid $40 more :(. Oh well it's a ripper. Mine even came with a Casio piano bench. Did anyone elses come with the bench? I looked it up and it's $190 to buy the bench on its own, and nowhere does it say it comes with one.

    • Did u purchase it from JB with the same model no.?

      • Yep

      • Bench was even in a seperate box labelled pbbk and I didn't realise until I opened it, that it was a bench. I was looking up benches last night trying to find one to suit so I was pleasantly suprised. Wondering if I got lucky or of others got a bench too.

        • I was told that it comes in 1 big box. Did you receive 2 boxes?

          • @Jayze: Yep. 1 big box for the piano and the little pbbk box. Didn't have box 2 of 2 on it or anything as if it was a completely seperate item. Either way they gave me bit and the small box is a bench.

            • @AndyRoo: Well done for scoring the bench, think you can get it for about $150 so it's a steal if you had it with the DP!

          • @Jayze: Google Casio pbbk and you can see the bench I got with it.

            • +2

@AndyRoo: You got a good deal with bench. Enjoy mate.

    • +2

Just picked up mine and its 1 box only, so not lucky to get the bench. Anyway I am happy with the price i paid around $850 after discounted gift cards.

  • +1

Have this piano and can vouch for it. Good compact size and decent enough if you are a beginning to learn, or even mid-tier.

  • Thanks OP just ordered for $938.91 by using gift cards (Macquarie marketplace)

  • Would be a real pain to tune!

It seem like the coupon code doesn’t work anymore. I tried it this morning but it showed as expired, despite it should be valid from 30 Nov to 12 Dec.

    • My coupon was valid till yesterday only?

  • +1

Same here. I tried the code but it doesn't work even though it says expires on 12th. Is there a way around it? I just bought $300 worth of JB gift cards :/

    • unfortunately the coupon stated it was valid till Friday 11/12.

      • I asked yesterday but no-one responded.

  • Coupon expired

Has anyone bought korg B2. How is it compare to rest I mean they are offered at $599 pretty cheap compared to fp10 or other.
