AmEx Statement Credit: up to $450 Back @ Qantas Ultimate Credit

290

Just received an email from AmEx:

Changes to your $450 Qantas Travel Credit Extension

As a Qantas American Express Ultimate Card Member, you are eligible for a $450 Travel Credit which can be used for Qantas flights. With the continued uncertainty about travel this year we've already extended the expiry of the Qantas Travel Credit to 31st March 20211. However we know for many of you, the time still isn't right to travel.

Given this, we've changed how you can use the Qantas Travel Credit that was extended to 31st March 2021.

In place of the $450 Qantas Travel Credit you'll now have a credit worth up to $450 to spend on Qantas flights booked directly through Qantas, or at Qantas Hotels, Qantas Wine or at the Qantas Rewards Store by 31st of March, 2021.

To activate, simply click the below and save the offer to your Card. Once you've saved the offer to your Card, the credit of up to $450 will be automatically applied when you spend at any of the above merchants. Exclusions apply.

It appears it is the targeted offer to Qantas Amex Ultimate Card holders.

Save offer to your eligible card and spend online at Qantas, Qantas Hotels, Qantas Rewards Store or Qantas Wine by 31/03/2021 to receive your purchase amounts back as a credit, up to $450.

Offer valid for payments made in Australian Dollars. If you choose Points Plus Pay, only the amount charged to your Card is eligible for the offer.

    Targeted?

    • Not quite sure, just got it from my ultimate card.

    • +1

      Looks like it 😭

Dont know if this is really a deal. The $450 Credit offsets the annual fee of $450. This is a fairly standard offer AMEX rolls out for new card campaigns.

    • Ok, thanks. But I had my ultimate card for more than 2 years though.

    • +2

If this is a credit back on the statement, this would be different to the 450 credit they offer on their card via the travel voucher.

But i didnt get one on my card as of yet so not sure if targeted or referencing a change to the annual $450 credit they hand out via AMEX travel :/

  • I don't see anything on the Qantas Amex Premium Card. I have the spend $300 and get $60 back that has been around for a while.

    • +1

I have both spend $300 and get $60 back and this $450 credit back for my ultimate card.

      • +1

that hurts my penny pinching soul!

    • I have this as well. Qn: the T&Cs say that I have to "…spend $300 or more, in one or more transactions, on flights within or departing Australia at qantas.com by 22/12/2020 to receive one $60 credit."

Regarding that date – does that mean I have to fly by then, or just make my booking by that date and then fly whenever?

      • It means book by. Ie, spend.

        • Thanks. Much appreciated.

  • +5

Targeted - no offer for me on the Ultimate card. Also seems different to the regular $450 travel credit.

  • +1

Wow I got it. So if i spend $450 on Qantas wine, I get $450 back?..

    • Do you get travel credit as well?

      • Works with Qantas, Qantas Hotel, Qantas Store!!! I'm freaking out… I dont know what to do

        • Sorry I mean, do you have this offer on top of the $450 travel credit than many of us get with AMEX Qantas Ultimate card via AMEX Travel?

    • Yes, there is no minimum spend.

  • Nothing for me…. and bugger there was little to no chance of using the $450 QF credit this year… might have to use it on some local AU trips..

  • +3

    This. Is. Amazing.

I have the offer and terms and conditions say it includes the rewards store. Also on my Qantas ultimate card. Time to spoil myself.

  • +1

Got it! I used my $450 Qantas Travel credit last week. And got this offer today

  • +1

Thanks OP, saved this offer on my Qantas Amex Ultimate card!

  • +2

Does anyone know if AMEX offers stack? I got Spend $300 or more get $60 back, Spend $600 or more get $150 back, and Get up to $450 back offers.

    • Yes I'd like to know too!

    • +1

      Generally yes

    • It doesn’t stack, I just tried.

      • Actually the offer stacks, didn’t receive the email but the credit came though after a few days.

  • +2

    Buying gift vouchers still works.

    • is it just qantas vouchers you can buy?

      • If you can find other vouchers to purchase from the specific biller "Qantas Air Australia" then that should theoretically also work.

  • Damn wish I got this one.

  • This is normally provided as a travel credit, looks like here you can spend it on the rewards store instead.

EDIT: Looks like this has been applied for people who had their $450 credit from the previous cycle lapse due to not being able to use it. I called AMEX some time back and they did say they would extend it out to March 2020 which it looks like they've done this now via the offer, however you can use it on a few things.

    • didn't get this one even though I didn't use the travel credit this year :c

    • Some people seem to have got both the travel credit for their last or most recent year AND this.

I was also told a similar story, but I was told I would get an additional travel credit that would appear on my account within 2-3 weeks (from last week) - that is to say I would have two travel credits and I would need to phone them to make sure I used the early expiring travel credit first.

      • Perhaps they changed it to this to simplify it? Even if they had extended it to March, it's highly unlikely international travel will have returned by then. Either way, glad they've done this as it's added so much more flexibility, esp with the rewards store. Good job AMEX :)

        • Some people used the travel credit (didn't let it lapse) and still received this, plus a new travel credit for their current year.
If they have changed the travel credits to this format, that is great, but it seems they haven't, this seems to be additional for some people.

  • So does this use up my $450 travel credit or is this in addition?

  • +2

wait wait wait…..so essentially AMEX is giving me $450 to spend with Qantas…..FOR NOTHING??
    CAN ANYONE CONFIRM??I'M FREAKING OUT!!

    • +2

Sounds a little too good to be true, but it does appear to be the case! A little free Christmas present/holiday courtesy of Amex, they've definitely won me over to keep the card for another year :)

      • AMEN!
my partner has the ANZ virgin card, there rewards and CS is nothing comparing to AMEX!

        • I just received an email from Amex that the statement credit offer is to replace the $450 travel credit. So it's not a free $450 from Amex, but still it means that at least we're not shackled to book Qantas flights via Amex Travel.

          • @Shostaholic: oh…yea I just got that too….still better than stuck with the travel credit where there isn't a lot of places to go

    • I don't think we're getting an additional $450, this is just extending the places where you can spend your $450 credit on, which used to be just on QF flight tickets.

  • +1

I just booked a stay via qantas hotel and got the notification "Thank you for using your Qantas Ultimate Credit Amex Offer"

  • +1

Heads up i’m on amex chat and there saying if you save this offer you will be unable to use your unused travel voucher as this is to replace that for those that had there travel voucher extended until the 31st of March.

There saying it just came out today and that an email will be sent to those with unused travel vouchers that were originally due to expire before the 31st of December to invite them to use this offer instead.

Sooo not sure whats going on

    • I think that you are right - I had 2 travel credits in my account but since adding the offer the one that was due to expire in December has disappeared.

      • +1

I guess at least now we dont have to spend on flights…

      • I have the same issue so I spoke to Amex Chat today and they advised me that both of my credits should still be available. However, I may need to contact Amex to ask them to apply the extended travel credit as it's not showing up on the website.

There were no mentions about the statement offer replacing the travel credit and they had no idea about that either. So I guess we will just have to wait for the email from Amex to inform us about it.

Edit: Just received an email from Amex confirming that the statement offer will in fact replace the travel credit.

Just got an email from AMEX about this:

Changes to your $450 Qantas Travel Credit Extension
As a Qantas American Express Ultimate Card Member, you are eligible for a $450 Travel Credit which can be used for Qantas flights. With the continued uncertainty about travel this year we've already extended the expiry of the Qantas Travel Credit to 31st March 20211. However we know for many of you, the time still isn't right to travel.

Given this, we've changed how you can use the Qantas Travel Credit that was extended to 31st March 2021.

In place of the $450 Qantas Travel Credit you'll now have a credit worth up to $450 to spend on Qantas flights booked directly through Qantas, or at Qantas Hotels, Qantas Wine or at the Qantas Rewards Store by 31st of March, 20211.
To activate, simply click the below and save the offer to your Card. Once you've saved the offer to your Card, the credit of up to $450 will be automatically applied when you spend at any of the above merchants. Exclusions apply.

    • Ahh I see. My travel credit now expires in July 2021 since I got a refund on my trip in March 2020 that was cancelled, but the refund only fully came through in July 2020. So likely outside the date window they've set.

  • I had last year's and this year's $450 travel credit on my Amex account. This came through, so now I have one linked to my card on spends at Qantas.com, with the other still in my travel.americanexpress.com expiring now in June.

So I have to spend money at both Qantas.com and travel.americanexpress.com… how annoying.

    • Presumably you can buy Qantas gift vouchers on Qantas.com for the $450 credit. Book flights using the Travel website.

  • Has anyone got this appearing under their saved offers yet? It seems to have disappeared, but I called them and they confirmed it had been saved to my card.

    • I still have it under my offers.

  • So I'm still waiting patiently for my expired travel credit to be extended and reflected in my account, according to amex this can take up to 8 weeks from expiry. With this new offer replacing that travel credit, do i first have to wait for the extended credit to show up in my account before saving the new offer? Or can I go ahead in this current limbo state

  • Does anyone know if this works booking for https://exclusive.hotel.qantas.com.au/?
