I think it will be the opposite of Wind Waker and Mario Sunshine, where instead of retrospective opinions changing from negative to positive…people will look back and think why was there so much hype about this 10 years go.

Overrated in the sense that it’s the best game in the franchise? Sure. But an overrated game in the Zelda series as a whole? I wouldn’t agree.

I think where people are coming from in terms of your opinion is that it doesn’t feel like a Zelda game at all. It ditched a lot of the stuff that made the classic formula so magical and went on a new path.

I didn’t feel like a hero who had to save hyrule. This is the first Zelda ever that I had the “screw Zelda, imma go collect all these korok seeds and spirit orbs” mentality. I never felt an urgency to save the kingdom. Also, I didn’t feel rightfully rewarded for climbing huge mountain peaks and raiding massive temples, again, instead of key story plots hidden in these aspects you just got new weapons, Armor, spirit orbs or seeds.

What this game absolutely nailed though - was gameplay mechanics- they are absolutely sublime. no limitations on exploration, the sheer freedom, links movement, shield surfing, chemistry engine, runes, gliding, the ability to solve any puzzle or get to any location in hundreds of different ways.

If the sequel can combine the classic formula with those mechanics, it might take the crown for the best Zelda ever created.

So I think what breath of the wild will be remembered for - is that it was a watershed game, an incredible foundation for the series to build upon. I think it’s in good hands.

      • Majoras mask took everything its predecessor had and improved on almost everything. So Nintendo definitely has the capability of doing the same here. Here's hoping.

    • So like Witcher 3?

I'm 135 hours into this game. I just returned to it to 100% it. When I'm playing this game, I feel like I'm in another world. The amount of detail and care that has gone into developing this game is unreal.

It's my favourite Zelda game of all time. Highly recommend.

Loved the old zelda games on N64 & GC but never bought any of the newer consoles… cant justify it for this one game!

Do you still game at all? There's rumors of a zelda 30th anniversary game bundle which may release next year. And along with links awakening remake already on switch, it may tempt you get the switch.

        • Rarely these days (kids!) I only play on special occasions now - RDR2 and TLOU2 :)

Theres more than just Zelda games on the Switch geez.

      • It's definitely worth the play if you one day get the chance. Give it time to grow on you. The mechanics are so solid.
