Anyone Converted a Free Standing Oven with Gas Cooktop to Induction (Full Electric)?

We have a pretty standard, 10 yo, 900mm x 600mm gas cooktop + oven combo. Been using a Xiaomi induction cooker a lot lately and have been thinking of the best (most cost effective) way of going full electric, without replacing the entire oven/cooktop combo.

Is there a way to retrofit an induction cooktop to a gas cooktop?

The other option we have is to board up the cooktop and use a 2 burner plug in model induction cooker - cheap, nasty, but effective?

Not worth doing unless you've already got the wiring that can handle the current induction cooktops need, usually 30A or more.

First one is not an induction cook top, it's a ceramic cook top.

Next, you will need to have it wired into the house, so it will require an electrician to run the wiring from the main board and install a new fuse/breaker. So, it may not be cost effective once you factor in running new wiring and having it installed.

    • Thanks for pointing that out!

      • And to add to that, definitely don't put in a ceramic cooktop, they are terrible compared to gas/induction.

  • Sounds ghetto fabulous.

Funny you posted this, as we have the opposite issue. We have ancient, barely working electric stove-top & wall oven & plan to go gas. However, in the interim, I bought an el-cheap-o single induction cook-top & have been completely surprised/impressed— to the point that I fell like two of these + one of these, would create an entire cooking area for under $260!
