Can't believe I paid over $100 for this crap. Even at $15, it's still not worth it.

    • ROFL!!!!!!

The game so bad they fired their entire development team and made it free.

    • Is that true?

      • If it's not they should have

        No lie.

        Development team reshuffle
Due to the game's predominantly negative reception, the president of Square Enix, Yoichi Wada, announced a major shift in the development team in December 2010, with Tanaka announcing his resignation from his role as producer.[2] Naoki Yoshida then became the director and producer, with most other positions also changing. The PlayStation 3 version, originally due for release in March 2011, was also delayed in order to accommodate the new changes that are anticipated.[2] The initial 30-day free trial was extended, first for two months and later indefinitely, in order to allow players to experience the new development team's updates before committing to the game.[36]

        Official response
Square Enix has sent at least two apologies to its customers, recognizing the poor quality of the game, asking for patience, and announcing free trial extensions and reshuffles in the development team.[52][53][54]

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada admitted in a September, 2011 press conference that "the Final Fantasy brand has been greatly damaged" as a result of the game's shortcomings.[55][56]

  • heard it's super crappy online play…no thanks

  • Final fantasy has pretty much gone down hill since their ps1 and ps2 hey day! I've heard nothing but bad thing about this game, I'll pass.

    • Really? I thought it went down hill after its NES/SNES 'hey day'? Just goes to show its all a matter of opinion.

7 was a classic - it started going downhill with 8. But yea, my opinion lol

        • 10 was equally classic.

        • 3 & 10 where the only FF games I played (minus ds/gameboy spinoffs) and 10 really grabbed me and had me playing each day, I had no memory card with my PS1 so I had to leave 3 running overnight and I'd often come back to a frozen game :(

      • I agree with pharm88, Final Fantasy 7 on the original Playstation is, indeed, a classic. The latter releases from the series gradually became worse. A pity, really.

Nope, 7 is NOTHING compared to 6 (Final Fantasy III in the US version, VI in the 'true' sequel version) with Locke, Terra etc.
Seriously, 7 is nothing close compared to 6 if not for the (back then) beautiful CG movies.

        • FF7 was/is amazing, still my favorite game of all time. I still play it occasionally on PSP after finishing it many times on ps1.

I'd like to disagree, it was after FF10 where they started to experiment way too much.

FF8 had a solid system, story was its major downfall though, it could have been fleshed out a lot better.
FF9 was a throwback to more traditional JRPG's
FF10 was where the experiments started to happen, granted it was a solid game, the sphere system was great.
FF10-2 was errr…. the dress sphere system was fun though.
FF12 threw it out the window, while it was a decent game in it's own right it hardly resembles what the FF games were and you could basically make the game play itself. Same applies to 13.

Just a tad OT though :P

        • hohohoa: Really? You reckon the story was a major downfall in FF8? I loved FF8 primarily because of its story.

Agree with KevinMario FF6/FF3 US is still the best… if you haven't tried find yourself an SNES emulator on your phone or PC and give it a go.. apart for the blocky pixels everything is better then FF7….

FF6 remake would be da best as most ppl don't actually know of it… FF7 is overdone with all the movies and what not.

        • +1

They couldn't remake six if they wanted to.

15 or so playable characters an absolute massive game compared to any other final fantasy. Although it would be absolutely awesome if they did I just can't see them doing it.

        • @CarbonTwelve: Considering What else the game had to offer, yep. The Junction/GF system was great fun by itself (and no, drawing from enemies wasn't the only way to play the game)and you could spend hours in triple triad.

        • Well - FF7 was (to my knowledge) the only one they actually made a movie out of - so that counts for something right?

        • "Well - FF7 was (to my knowledge) the only one they actually made a movie out of - so that counts for something right?"

Yeap - because SE can milk the fanbase the most, it's the most generic FF by far IMHO (the easiest to like) although story wise its not as great thus because of that exact reason it generated the largest fanbase. I suppose the fact that a female main character got slain in the game (hey everyone should know this by now) might've been one of the reasons why it got so famous.

But purely as a game, FFVII <<< FFVI

  • Until they release version 2.0 (a whole slew of changes including a complete overhaul on the UI & gameplay) its not worth touching. I should know, I own it <_< Thankfully only paid about $25 for it when it came out

The only fun part was buying new armour/weapons

  • Surprisingly out of stock online now.

  • +2

still waiting for the FF VII remake… hopefully before 2020

    • FF7 remake? Why would they do that? Or do you mean a new FF with the same system as FF7?

  • sounds like only a collector would want this game

  • U guys are nuts. It's Chrono Cross or nothing! (ok, maybe Chrono Trigger too).
