Freshly Roasted Coffee.

Hi guys.

I'm a bit of a coffeeholic, and always looking to get the freshest roasted coffee.
Been buying from my local roaster, and although I'd like to support him it's getting a bit expensive at $9 per 250gms.

I've found a major coffee seller that supplies shops who can do almost half price, but it's not as fresh.

Any ideas?

PS: coffeesnobs is a no go. it's massively controlled and you can't discuss things like this, they just send you to their sponsors. a joke.

Buy a popcorn machine on sale after Christmas and roast your own. It is quick (120g in 15 minutes), easy, fun and produces suprisingly good coffee.

    • And get the unroasted beans from ………?

      • Recently started roasting at home with a popcorn maker. Dead easy :)

Buy the green beans from the interweb from coffeesnobs or the coffee company.

    • I'd never thought of that, great idea…certainly worth a shot! (pun intended) ;)

@Geewhizz, da interwebz bro, you can buy lots of cool stuff on da linez now. Even da ebayz is sellin' da green beanz!!! :o

  • Give Merlo a go. Not cheap but nice coffee

  • Many roast coffee sellers, sell green beans -you just have to ask. Also they sell them once a month on BeanBay. There is info on beanbay via coffeesnobs.

      Awesome! Thanks. :)

The starter pack seems like perhaps the best place to start. Now to dig the popcorn maker out of its 8 year hibernation.

Hi. I agree with Robotdad - there is a lot of fun and education to be had in roasting small quanties at home on a popcorn maker, or frypan at a pinch and if you like it, roast a batch large enough to share with friends or family with a coretto, which is a modified bread maker producing around 900grams roasted. google "coretto" if you are interested.

There are places around that will sell you roasted for less than $9/250g, but like you already have discovered, you miss out on the freshness, which is important. Perhaps an idea might be to purchase in 1kg lots, and split it between friends - you will get a better price on 1kg compared to 250g usually. Ask your roaster what he can do for you.

coffeesnobs is very moderated when it comes to protecting thier sponsors and brand. Comercially, I understand their stance, but it would be nice if it was a group without the commercial interest.
