Reminder that you can upgrade Xbox Gold or regular Game Pass to Game Pass Ultimate, which should stack with this offer.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/579366

    • +3

Can you please explain how that offer could stack with this offer? I don’t get it because this is 3 months of ultimate for $1 so I don’t see how you could use this and that other deal which is an upgrade to ultimate from a lower tier for up to 36 months for $1. Just wondering how to implement the stack you mentioned because if it is possible I do want to do it.

      • You would buy up to 33 months of Gold, then convert your account with the 3 months / $1 deal. Thats the theory anyway.

        • +1

Any place to get this cheap still? Pretty sure the price went up quite a bit from the $120 for 3 years…

        • I'm new to this, so I shouldn't get 3x12month codes and instead try to get 33?

          • @Stoibs: Nevermind; I got 12months + 13months (auto renewal on) + 7 months (6 month Sub with autorenewal on again) and then activated the Ultimate which brings me to 2023 December for a total of 35 months :D

In hindsight I probably could have gotten the extra free month from the first activation also, but I wasn't sure if it would interfere with my existing gamepass sub which has <1 month left remaining currently.

Paid a little more these days than I would have when the trick was first discovered since even the the Brazil subs have gone up in price; but eh.. Can't complain at starting my 3 years from this point since this is when EA Play gets added and Gamepass as a whole is starting to get even better :D

    • Any deals for Xbox live gold at the moment? Want to stack up for 3 years and convert to game pass ultimate but they all seem to be full price at $80 a year?

      • +1

You can always get cheaper Gold membership from the Brazil server - should always be less than $50 per year.

Plus, you can Home your console with a friend so the cost for XGPU can be shared 50/50 - ultimately $25 per year or less.

  • Ooh, I wonder if Control will have the Series X/S upgrade?

    • Not yet, will be interesting to see if it gets pushed early next year but i doubt it..

      • Oh, is it not out yet?

        • The next gen update isnt, it got pushed to early next year

          • @JuryWheel: 505 games are charging for the next-gen update as a new standalone - "ultimate edition"

I doubt this next gen version will go onto games pass as such but who knows…

            • +2

@dlcx: If they are on game pass for PC just play them there. #PCMR is generally always on next-gen

              • +3

@Abaddon: True - but my PC is pretty old now and the Series X has been a cost effective way to enjoy gaming for the upcoming years.
I'm happy to chill out on a couch nowadays just having games work without much fuss (I've been a PC gamer since 286 days and appreciate the ease of consoles nowadays)

    • +1

I hope so but I think this is only the Xbox One version, not the 'Ultimate Edition', which (somewhat controversially) is the only version getting the Series X|S update.

    • +1

Of course this gets announced today! I purchased Control (Ultimate Edition) about 10 hours ago - digital - as was half price on MS Store. The deal was a day or so from ending, so I didn't hold off any longer. That's pretty cheeky - encourage purchases and then throw it into Gamepass the day after your sale ends. I expect the Gamepass version won't have the DLC, but there you go…! Heh.

      • +1

I did the same, I got a refund and it was repaid immmediately. But I'd wait and see if the free one is the ultimate version or the basic, if you've got an series X, you might want to keep hold of it? You'll get the updated graphics and the expansion packs. I have a series X and I'm wondering if I did the right thing…

refunds are only given within 14 days of purchase, you have have time.

        • Thanks for the steer. I'll sit tight for a day or two, but how did you arrange your refund - just get on Microsoft chat?

I'd expect that Gamepass release will be the core game (with no expansion content), but I reckon the enhanced version will be available to subscribers (smart delivery) once it pushes out. As you say, won't know for sure - at least not yet.

          • +1

@fookos: Digital refund via the Microsoft website. Extremely easy. A few clicks and you're done.

      • +1

It looks like it’s just the basic version of control, not the ultimate. The image is of the standard version on the Xbox Twitter account. Could be a mistake but seems unlikely. I also bought the ultimate version last week and was worried we wasted our money. Doesn’t seem we have thankfully. Also seems a bit cheap from MS to only put the standard version on there.

        • +1

I'd blame the publisher more so than Microsoft considering the controversies surrounding the upgraded edition.

  • +1

Wow, 3 month trial is very good. Im suprised this wasnt bundled with the X/S tbh

    • +2

Arguably the S model should include at least this as part of the package and still be applicable for existing subscribers. Won't be the least suprised they do something similar when stock levels recover.

  • +2

Awesome news that Doom Eternal coming to PC pass

    • Where the hell is the Ray Tracing update they announced over a year ago though?

      • delayed, due to pandemic and them trying to get Year 1 content done as the priority.

  • +1

The value proposition is just ridiculous now, Microsoft just needs to deliver on their first party games promise now!!!

  • +1

I can't get it for $1 if I've already had it right? 😅

    • +1

Yeah, but if you don't care about the XBox Live Gold free games that much, sign up with a different account is a workaround.

    • Give it a try. Sometimes it works if your sub has expired for a few days.

      • I was doing the $1 renewal for about a year but now it only offers me full price
My account expired three weeks ago and I'm scared

  • was so CLOSE to buying control - phew - that was close

    • So was I, I saw it at Target for $15 the other day and thought I'll wait until I finish Doom Eternal adding another game to the pile….just in case it gets added to Game Pass.

    • Probably better off that you waited for GamePass - I bought it in a sale a while back and was a bit disappointed.

I loved it at first, just the setting, the weirdness… "the vibe" as the guy said in The Castle. But after a while the gameplay just got really repetitive, the combat is pretty meh, there's a lot of backtracking etc. They created a great world but put an average game in it. I would have enjoyed it more if they'd made it shorter so it ended before the boredom set in.

    • I bought it :( although I didn't get Fallen Order thinking I had done well

      Damn Microsoft with their deals!

  • +3

Any good deals for new people on PC?

  • Too bad these are no longer available for previous users anymore

  • Damn…. subbed yesterday for a dollar for one month and upgraded my one year gold to ultimate…. oh well… missed out on an extra two months.

  • +1

Where is the cheapest place to renew Game Pass Ultimate these days?

    • +1

      Microsoft Rewards

      • Actually they removed Ultimate from the offered rewards this month (I was waiting to grab it once there is more Mandalorian ready to binge on Disney+), but you could redeem a gift card to offset the cost I guess.

        • Redeem the points for xbox live gold gift card instead. Works out better even after converting to Ultimate at the reduced rate (but only if you do 1 month at a time).

      • and the easiest way to earn rewards points is?

        • 42000 points needed for 12 months of Ultimate - I think not!

        • Bing searching. There are some Chrome extensions for that as well.

I'm using ABS extension each morning. It'll spoof Edge mobile/desktop and auto picks results for quizzes etc.

    • Jb hi fi had some good deals, but 3 months get 3 months free but haven't seen them in a while
      Maybe out soon though

  • Mine expired a few weeks ago, will see if it works for me.

    • Doubt it. My current subscription status is expired GamePass Ultimate. For the last 3 months, Microsoft refused to let me sign up for $1/month GamePass Ultimate deal. I think a way around it is to get GamePass (standard) or XBox Live Gold subscription and hope the subscription status drops to one of those. That might be enough to trick the system to allow re-convert back up and get the "new" subscription special.

      • +1

I don't have Xbox Live Gold either.

It took many months before I saw on the Xbox dashboard before I saw a $1 for a month offer, I took that offer and it expired.

Maybe I will create a new login or something.

Well see. I don't mind, I don't play that much.

      • Yes that's my situation. I've taken the $1 month Ultimate before but I later switched to Game Pass for PC. Now in my subscriptions page it keeps offering me to upgrade to Ultimate for $1 (and currently states $1 plus 2 free months).

      • This works now!

  • +2

Difficult to even justify keeping both Xbox SX and PS5 when Xbox is keeping me busy all for a measly $140 over 3 years….

    • You don't need SX right now. However, Quick Resume is a pretty good quality of life improvement. The SSD helps out a lot. Games load faster on SX, even if you use external HDD. Also, USB 3.1 gen 2 is supported.

      • +1

I already have both consoles hence my comment.

        • Depends on whether you want to play Sony exclusives later on. Technically, it is $890 (but I guess you could have traded in enough old console(s) and games to offset the console cost).

I am not quite willing to spend $140 on GP Ultimate for 3 years in one go (even though it is already heavily discounted). Still trying to obtain some free GamePass vouchers via MS rewards and these $1 deals. I don't really need continuous GP. Every Christmas for 4 years in a row, Microsoft offered special deals. Still have about 5 x 1 month vouchers (mixture of GamePass and XBox Live Gold). Hope the loophole remains open. For owners with consoles on both camps, do we really have time to play GamePass games that often?

No Cyberpunk 2077? Or, that's going to be played on PC?

          • @netsurfer: Really have no idea what you are on about. What do you mean technically it's $890? Both consoles cost the same so what's the point of saying it costs $890?

If you buy 2 PS5 games right now, it will probably cost you close to or over $140. All up to the individual, but I don't personally care about playing the latest games right now when prices are stupid high and therefore GP is perfect for me. There are some recent releases as well as older titles that I have not played. For $140, I would rather just pay it now and not worry about it for 3 years vs wasting my time scavenging for vouchers and deals. My time is more valuable than that.

I have preordered Cyberpunk 2077 via EB games trade in deal. Only did it because I had old PS4 games lying around.

            • @keejoonc: How did you get Game Pass Ultimate $140 for 3 years?

              Was it the Brazil hack?

            • @keejoonc: The console isn't free. Right now, is there any new first party, next gen title in GamePass to justify Series X?

Also, re: buying PS5 games right now, if you buy the physical versions of the games, you can sell them quickly once you played them. With PS5 games being mostly single player, and generally don't have DLCs or continuous add-ons, you generally don't need to keep them.

Let's really look at GamePass for the past few years in terms of first party exclusives. Since XB1X, we only really have Forza Horizon 4 and Gears 5 being AAA. For Forza Horizon 4, the expansions are not included in GamePass.

I have preordered Cyberpunk 2077 via EB games trade in deal. Only did it because I had old PS4 games lying around.

That's another point. We have/had more old PS4 games available to do those trade in deals. What annoyed me recently was EB gave me much less credit for RDR2 XBox One Edition (compared to PS4 version) despite I paid the same price as the PS4 version at the time and XB1 version has better resolution.

My dilemma is this: Microsoft offers Christmas specials for GamePass every year ($1) and EVERY first party exclusive launch so far has had a $1/month GP Ultimate promotion on that particular month. My XB1X GamePass total spent was less than $10 over 2+ years. With all those juicy deals, do I really want to spend $50 a year on GamePass Ultimate?

              • @netsurfer:

The console isn't free. Right now, is there any new first party, next gen title in GamePass to justify Series X?

Who said console is free? Whether you buy PS5 or XBOX SX, it will cost you $749 so it's a moot point including the cost of the console when comparing the cost of owning one over the other. You seem to be going off on a tangent arguing whether buying a next gen console makes sense for your not. If so, I have no idea why you replied to my post as my comment simply said I can't justify keeping both PS5 and XBOX XS when Gamepass is such a good value proposition and I have no desire to spend 80-100 bucks on one game.

In terms of next gen titles, once again I don't care personally. PS5 titles aren't really anything mind blowing either so it's up to you whether you want the next best thing right now. I'm perfectly happy geting the benefit of faster loading times and better frame rate and enhanced graphics for now. Zero regrets selling my PS4 Pro and moving on to next gen consoles.

Let's really look at GamePass for the past few years in terms of first party exclusives. Since XB1X, we only really have Forza Horizon 4 and Gears 5 being AAA. For Forza Horizon 4, the expansions are not included in GamePass.

I couldn't care less whether a game is an exclusive or not. As long as the game is good, that's all I care about and there are plenty of good games on Gamepass. Certainly more than I can handle with the amount of gaming time I have.

That's another point. We have/had more old PS4 games available to do those trade in deals. What annoyed me recently was EB gave me much less credit for RDR2 XBox One Edition (compared to PS4 version) despite I paid the same price as the PS4 version at the time and XB1 version has better resolution.

And what is the relevance of this to the discussion?

My dilemma is this: Microsoft offers Christmas specials for GamePass every year ($1) and EVERY first party exclusive launch so far has had a $1/month GP Ultimate promotion on it. My XB1X GamePass total spent was less than $10 over 2+ years. With all those juicy deals, do I really want to spend $50 a year on GamePass Ultimate?

So you got 24 months of uninterrupted subscription to Gamepass for $10? I doubt it, but if so, good for you.
Personally $50 a year for the convenience of having the subscription active at all times is more than worth it, not to mention the effort of looking for deals and signing up etc.

                • @keejoonc:

And what is the relevance of this to the discussion?

Two things: (1) Deep down, we ALL prefer to play Cyperpunk 2077 this holiday season. So, at the relatively early stage of your 3 years worth of GamePass, you already bought a game. (2) With Game Pass alone and not buying any games, you have nothing available to do those trade in deals.

The 36 months GamePass Ultimate used two loopholes. One is Microsoft allowing 1:1 conversion for GamePass Console, GamePass PC, XBox Live Gold to GamePass Ultimate. The other one is VPN (and Microsoft not disallowing it). Honestly, if both loopholes were to be closed, after 3 years, we could be looking at GamePass Ultimate at RRP.

You could get a GamePass console voucher from MS rewards once every 2 months. When Microsoft offered GamePass for PC for $1, that can also be stacked. Some OZBers managed to grab close to 2 years worth of Game Pass vouchers for free before Microsoft realised the loop hole problem. There was also the beta deal (convert at $1 for 3 extra months). I had, on average, > 6 months of GamePass / Ultimate each year for the past 2+ years. I still have 6 vouchers unused. Should be able to get the 7th one this month.

There is also xCloud, which I am on the preview. It's odd, but without GamePass Ultimate, it is letting me play some games on GamePass. I might try Control without installing it on my Series X to see if I like it before re-joining GamePass Ultimate and install it on the console.

If a person only has XBox sS|X or Xbox One S|X, then I can see a non stop GamePass Ultimate being quite attractive. For people in dual camps (+ PC), the backlog tends to be quite long already. Right now, I have no GamePass, but for $1 (for next 3 months), might as well (I still have Microsoft store credit to use anyway).

                  • @netsurfer:

LOL A game which I paid $29 for by trading in two games I would have struggled to sell for any amount worth my time and effort?
I never ever trade my games anyway. I either sell it or just keep them.

Honestly, if both loopholes were to be closed, after 3 years, we could be looking at GamePass Ultimate at RRP.

I don't have an issue paying RRP if it comes to that. In reality it'll never be full RRP because at the very least you can get Xbox giftcards with 9% discount.

I had, on average, > 6 months of GamePass / Ultimate each year for the past 2+ years.

So you didn't have the subscription all throughout the 2 years. Stuff that, I can't be arsed with that. I'd rather have something available whenever I feel like playing.

If a person only has XBox sS|X or Xbox One S|X, then I can see a non stop GamePass Ultimate being quite attractive. For people in dual camps (+ PC), the backlog tends to be quite long already.

I never mentioned anything about PC. Personally I can't think of anything worse than sitting in front of a computer to play games when I already spend 7-8 hours a day in front of a computer at work.

      • Why would you not need the next generation? You the kind of person still using a 360?

        • because i have a pc with gamepass and xcloud

and $1000 for selling my xbox and ps5

  • +1

What does it mean when it says “android”? Is that for the game streaming service?

  • Thanks for the list, marked Greedfall as my next. Must say the PC ultimate pass hass been good, my only gripe is how MS hide the files (especially the saved) so we can't mod or move our saved games to other platforms to get achievements.

  • +1

Ugh..just bought Greedfall…oh well, I honestly don't play Game Pass that much with such a backlog of games I own…I would buy it for the $8 a month when J.B had the offer but its been so long now I doubt they will bring it back. For $16 a month its only good if you play often enough..
I might get it again if Xbox releases some brand new games like Fable or Bethesda games…

  • (profanity) yes! I saw Superhot and was like "cool but I have it" and then realized it was the new one, I am (profanity) stoked on that!

  • Gah, I pulled the trigger one month too early :(

    Great deal!

  • The only time I've tried out Game Pass Ultimate was through the Pringles 7-day offer (expired over a month ago). I've never purchased Gold previously. I wonder if this new deal would work for me…

  • https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-game-pass#join - come back tomorrow for that 1 dollar promo

  • Thought Control would never come to GP after Phil's slip up.

  • Worth noting that anyone who likes Control and wants the DLC shouldn't buy the season pass, as it won't give you the new gen upgrades. Buy the Ultimate Edition instead. Or buy neither, and put pressure on 505 Games to offer an upgrade path for season pass owners.

In the past I have used the $1 deal over and over after subscription expiry. May be this will work too…

  • Haven – Does love really conquer all? Play as two lovers…
Doom Eternal – Hell’s armies have invaded Earth…

    Hrmm, choices, choices.

  • Doom Eternal and Control! Sweeeet

  • Damn bought ultimate edition last month ready for Series X for $69
Well at least its an awesome game. and I don't need the disc now.
Super Excited to play Call Of the Sea… That looks beautiful and has ray tracing and a 120fps mode?

Right now I'm hooked on anything that's 120fps on console,
Gears 5, Halo MCC, Ori, COD Cold War, Dirt 5, Rainbow Six Siege

Also, note that it's likely that Control via Gamepass will not be the Control Ultimate Edition, which is the Series X enhanced edition. So if you wanted to play it with the enhancements, it's likely you'll still need the purchase you made.

    • Further note that the Ultimate Edition enhancements aren't coming out until early 2021.

      • So I'm guessing it running at 60fps right now is just Series X doing all the improvements?
That's annoying I bought Ultimate edition because I thought It was a day 1 upgrade.
Thinking If I should wait for enhancements. I played about 1hr so far…
        Thanks for the info :)

        • I purchased last night (as mentioned above), but haven't started on my Series X yet.

As you know, Ultimate owners will get the X/S upgrade when it eventually releases, and you also have the two expansion packs, which give you extra story content and missions.

DLC aside, if it emerges that Game Pass version will get the new gen enhancements, I'll probably return Ultimate and enjoy it on GamePass.

I know many reports suggest that Game Pass players won't get the enhancements, because it's not the 'Ultimate' version being added, but we'll need to wait and see.

Microsoft may have struck an arrangement with the publisher to allow the enhanced version to be released in order to win back some points with those that purchased the game originally, and are sour for not being eligible for the upgrade.

  • Seems to be live now, I just signed up and it said 2 bonus months

    • +1

Yup. 1 dollar for the first month and then 2 month free to upgrade from Gamepass PC

      • If I upgrade to this deal from Gamepass PC, will the Ultimate Pass still work on PC? (I'm not playing on Xbox) Thanks!

        • +1

Yes it will upgrade your subscription to Gamepass Ultimate from Gamepass for PC. I still can game on PC. An Additional benefit would be if you have an android phone which you can game stream on the go.

          • @ChickenAdobo: Nice, thanks! I suppose that's why it's more expensive than Gamepass for PC in terms of monthly subscription.

  • +1

Is there an expiry date for this offer? I'm getting a new PC in next week or two and don't want to waste 2 weeks of the subscription.

    • I also would like to know as my previous Ultimate expired mid November and the dollar deal aint showing for me yet. :)

    • When you click on the link it says need to claim by 1/31/21 and redeem by 3/2/21.

      • Cheers.

Game pass is the best thing in gaming in the last decade.

You end up playing and enjoying games you would never have bought.

    • Better than buying games you never play.

  • Shows up as $15.95 for me despite my sub having expired. New customers only?

    • Me, too, targeted I think. But keep checking now and then on the dashboard.

About a year ago, when it expired I always got offers a few days later but this year, it took many many months before I got a good offer.
Like $1 for a month or 3 months for $10 (Live not Ultimate).

Maybe create a new login to see if it works.
