Are these any good?
The reviews were putting me off, but it was way too attractive (small pack,quick assemble, a lot of shade), so I gave it a go. From a user perspective, I can definitely understand why it breaks. At the same time, I love how light it is to carry.
There are some crucial points in the instructions which can put a lot of extra tension to the arms:
- the bottom part of the central pole needs to go deep in the sand, otherwise, the pole will stay too high and holding too much sand weight. This bit is crucial.
- only install (and uninstall) one arm at a time, hence why I keep it as a one-person-job. Avoid getting help from anyone. If they are too keen to help, step back and instruct them on how to do it, blaming on the instructions manual.
- prefer flat surfaces. If it is not flat, play with the pole and sand weights, checking out the tension on the arms.
- reviews tend to point to issues with the Large model, so I went for the Medium.
I've used it probably 10 times already. It is becoming more practical each time we use it, as we are getting quicker. We are very happy with it.
