Whats The Most Expensive Thing You Bought but Never Used?

Whats the most expensive thing you bought and never used ie still brand new condition
(eg cant be an investment/decoration/backup or a gift to someone that hasnt been given)

for me it was a surface laptop discontinuation sale $1000 new
sat in my draw for 1 year still in the box as I already had a laptop that was 3 months old, but always wanted a surface badly

Subconsciously I'm hoping my laptop breaks or have a need to give it to someone

A house… bought land, built house, sold house -> profit $$$$

    • What is the most expensive thing you bought and never used? You bought land and then used it.

      You didn't buy a house.

  • at the moment probalby my CPAP machine I spent nearly 2k on and used for about 15 mins and ripped it off and haven't put myself through it again since.

  • I'm amazed no ones said this yet but….

Condoms. Since I bought them they haven't been used and It's turned out to be the most expensive thing in my life.

MacBook Pro for $2500. Bought for uni then realised macOS is the most annoying POS ever created.

    • What makes it so bad, not being user upgradable?

      • You mean user downgrade? Mac fanatics continue to amaze me. Simple facts like it claims to be the king of photography yet cannot open and flick through 300+ images in a folder without pissing its pants. How the hell does one quickly open one image in full resolution and browse to the next image file in the folder? The stupid OS can't. Thousands of examples like this. Absolute productivity killer.

Apple Inc. Yesterday's technology. At tomorrow's prices.

  • Bose QC35 II

  • Bosch Brushless 4 piece combo which was $699 on offer.
    1) Hammer Drill
    2) Angle Grinder
    3) Rotary Hammer drill
    4) Impact driver

Never once used 2 and 3.

  • I just remembered another one from absolute years ago

Huge surround sound speaker set (speakers all about 1.2metres high)
    Subwoofer
    Amplifier

All no name brand new from ebay, probably $1000 up

Installed it myself, parents didn't like it, sort of looked out of place, took up too much space
Moved it to spare room, never touched it since
Probably only used it while installing it

  • Education - as none of my qualifications have led to anything significant… yet next year I'll be back to study, so maybe 3rd time lucky?

A $300 dress I've never worn. Probably gathering dust in a corner of my wardrobe.

My Nintendo Switch collection is my pride…and shame.

I have a few Switch consoles (used) but of the more than 1,100 games I have, less then 30 have actually been played. And to add insult to (self-inflicted) injury, I bought a few of the games digitally before paying for them physically.

So, yeah, north of $60K in Nintendo Switch purchases (the imported collectors' editions are kind of exxy) which have never been opened.

    • Jeeeeeeez…

      • Yeah mate. :-/

        • At least if they haven't been opened, they could end up being worth something… Might not be the worst investment of all time!

@ngengerous: At least $1.99ea at EB games ;-)

  • Gaming PC for me ~$2000. Started with an NR200 and moved to a Ghost S1. Loved the build process, but have turned it on twice since finishing the build 3-4 months ago.

    I just prefer gaming on Ps5 :-/

  • Gym membership

  • Bought a kindle thinking I might read more. But it just turns out to be a paperweight. Actually feels worse than holding a book and really laggy compared to my iPhone. Actually no idea why this thing is so popular.
