Is USB-C worth the extra $$?
this one for $186.18? https://www.amazon.com.au/Wd-5Tb-My-Passport-Ultra-Portable-… USB C is very handy, but not sure if it's worth a whole $40 more.. 🤔
Yeah that's exactly what I'm considering. None of the marketing pictures on any of them show what ports are actually on the casings.
It's about 30% price increase. Not worth IMO.
Umart is selling my passport 5TB for $149
Not worth it, if you really want USB-C, can get yourself a cable like this and use it on this hard drive:

Does anyone know of any physical store (cash payment) that will price match this?
Tried to check Officeworks, but the model on their website is different :(
Thanks
Nice, been waiting for this to drop in price!
look like it's a proprietary non-standard SATA drive in it

I will try to avoid something like this in case I need to recover files
It's been an issue for years. On the other hand, WD has the smallest failure rates.
Doesn't help when they do fail though. One of mine did, thankfully it didn't have anything important on it, just some backed up……linux distros. One of my friends lost their photo collection when their HDD failed and it had one of these connectors.
Yeah, doesn't help at all once they fail.
But also note that your friend lost their pics mostly because they didn't have a copy.
Thanks OP, grabbed one! Even if its not a standard drive inside…..just means I won't put non backed up data onto it…which no one should regardless.
Haven't there been 4TB for $100?
There's Seagate 4TB for around $122 on Amazon
ok
my 4tb seagate at $105 arrived last week after being ordered September 1st so YMMV
Using one of this, its pretty good
Interesting that camelcamelcamel says its the lowest price - was $139.99 during prime day https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/572623
Will this work on a PS4? In fact, are there any specific requirements for external HDDs if you want to hook it up to a PS4?
As far as I know, usb 3 drives are good to go with the PS4. I myself have a 2.5*" hdd connected with a usb 3.0 cable for the that hard drive I took out of my old laptop.
Thanks OP.
